Read and rate Travel Journal Entries for Honolulu, Hawaii, United States

Mar 3, 2016 - Americans: a sort of editorial

Note: the map may suggest we flew to the west across Africa to get to Hawaii, but we flew directly, north northeast. As airlines go, Qantas was good, Air New Zealand was better. Food, wine, movies, classical music, and friendly crew. The only confusion was crossing the International Date Line. We had a redo of Wednesday for a couple hours. We have both been to Hawaii before. Mo traveled here with daughters Dawn and Erin, making good on a bet lost to Erin some years back. Ask Mo or Erin for the details. Jim's family lived here while his Dad...

Jan 9, 2016 - Almost home

I'm back in Australia! So glad we were on Qantas, it really is the better company. Food, drinks, entertainment, baggage included in the ticket. It was so much easier flying the 9 hours with that than when we did Dallas to Honolulu with nothing! I've been up since 4am and I am now just waiting for my final flight back to Perth. I'm really just wanting to be home now and not looking forward to another 4 hour flight. Thought I better finish this journal but listing my favourites etc so here goes.... I'm sure I will miss some out as now I'm at...

Jan 8, 2016 - Polynesian Experience and Pearl Harbour

We have been flat out the past few days. We spent another day at the beach with Jenni and Neil. It rained a few times, just light showers but the sun still had a bite on it when it came out to play. I will have a nice tan when I get home for sure. Yesterday we quickly walked through some shops on the beach before heading the the Polynesian Cultural Centre. The bus ride there was hilarious. We had a really good tour guide and the 50 minute trip went really quickly. From the moment we arrived, we hit the ground running. We elected not to pay...

Jan 5, 2016 - Aloha!

Our last stop before home! We are both so glad Hawaii is the last stop and not the first. We are quite content to lay on the beach all day rather than sight see. We didn't have an easy travel day on the 3rd. We were up at 5.15 to leave for the airport at 6am. We stayed in an airport motel so had a free shuttle to get there and it took all of 5 mins. The check in line for American Airlines was very long ( a good 150metres) and we joined the end of the line. No one helped us or told us this was just for the self service counter and bag drop...

Aug 14, 2015 - Hawaii

American Airlines has definitely degraded since the merger with U S Air. Upon arrival to LAX for flight to Sydney connecting in Honolulu with Hawaiian Air am informed that the Admirals Club is not available as Hawaiian Air is only a 'code-share' airline. The personnel are not even polite during their conversations. I wonder how pleasant it is to work there ? Arrive in Honolulu with about 2 hours before boarding for Sydney. We are welcome to the Hawaiian Airlines Lounge - things are getting better. Gazing out the window of the departure...

May 4, 2015 - Honolulu - Soon to be seeking dry land

FOBTs, We are in Honolulu, but I'm still on the cruise ship. More later. A curiously diverse weather day began with a visible shower front approaching the ship from part of Honolulu. I observed this eating breakfast, but by the time I left to join the tour of Oahu scenic sights, the weather switched to become glorious - sunny, rather warm (82-84 F), and humid. Two important facts I learned today pertain to Diamond Head Crater and the Punchbowl Crater. Both were post-formative volcanic blasts, that is volcanic eruptions of significant...

Mar 20, 2015 - Hawaii day 5

Will Smiths party was awesome! But we left last night and slept in a cabana outside our hotel. We woke up freshened up, and went out and explored out last day. We decided to go big and take a open doored helicopter trip around the island! Then we went deep sea fishing and our tour guide pulled in his biggest catch ever! awesome trip in Hawaii!

Mar 20, 2015 - Hawaii day 4

So the roommates woke up refreshed from yesterday. We were all starving so we went out and got breakfast by the ocean. You will never guess who we saw walking out on the beach. Will and Jada Smith were casually walking down the beach taking a picture with the few people that were out there. Of course none of us remembered to bring a camera. Will was really cool, he invited us to a party at his vacation house later, and who would turn that down?!? Being a well payed actor has it perks, lemme just tell you now.

Mar 20, 2015 - Hawaii day 3

Today was a pretty relaxing day, but it was tiring at the same time. we woke up this morning and went on an all day hike! it was beautiful. I had to drink multiple gallons of water to stay hydrated. We ended the day by relaxing on the beach watching the sunset.

Mar 19, 2015 - Hawaii day 2

Today, woke up from a crazy night from last night. We all ate a bunch of fruit and some waffles for breakfast. We decided to go for some surfing lessons. So we went out put on our suits and I fell off the board a bunch. Every time I fell off it was like a tsunami came through... at least that's what my roommates said. then we went and played volleyball for a lil bit, we all got super sandy. We then washed off back at the room, and went out to a luau. I ate a whole pigs leg then passed out early.

Feb 24, 2015 - Still at Sea

Well, another lazy day. We had breakfast in the Neptune Lounge and went to a lecture on Bora Bora. Returned to the room and read and did puzzles on the veranda, had lunch, went to a lecture on Captain Cook and returned to the room where we again read and did puzzles outside. I went for a walk to try and wake up while Christine slept. It has become very humid. We watched three birds soaring round the ship. Not sure what they were. They were quite large and appeared to swoop into the water from time to time, presumably catching some...

Feb 23, 2015 - At Sea

While the Atlantic Ocean can charitably be described as "grey" and our recollection of the Caribbean is its having a green tinge, the Pacific is definitely "blue", validating Tony Horowitz's choice of "Blue Latitudes" as the title of his book retracing Cook's voyages. We are again adrift on a limitless expanse of water - the largest on the globe. We left Hawaii yesterday and will travel about 1,000 miles to our next landfall, if you can call a tiny atoll which no one has ever heard of, "land". Fanning Island is part of a republic which is...
