May 8, 2018 - Monday. Day one. Wow

Day one started early as we wanted to get to Diamond Head around 7am. Glad we did as we beat the crowds. We hiked the old crater which had a rise of 560 feet. We had a few moments but the new hip and knee did pretty good. Gorgeous view from the top. We then continued south and east and a big shout out to Cristy and Pete for recommending things to see. We ended up going around the east side and up to the north shore. Saw a good amount of rain but really didn’t deter us much. After DH we stopped at Halona Blow hole and found the old lava...

Oahu and Maui

Havaj 2011

Apr 14, 2008 - Oahu beaches and Diamond Head

After walking on the beach and going for a swim, we check out of the cabin and drove along the coast. We stopped at overlooks to watch the waves smash against the rocky cliffs. We parked in a residential area and walked down a steep rocky trail to get to the spitting cave. The waves wash into the cave and the spray shoots out as if the cave was spitting. Our next stop was Diamond Head. The walk to the top Diamond Head starts off with a trail with lots of switchbacks. At the end is about 100 steps going almost straight up. The view from the...

2008 Hawaii

Feb 5, 2005 - Diamond Head

We had another awesome scenic drive today, we drove as close as we could get to the top of Diamond Head. We had an incredible view. We didn't take the 30 minute hike by foot for the top view, but what we saw was spectacular. We will be taking a cruise to view it from the water later this week too. Diamond Head is part of the complex of cones, vents, and their associated eruption flows that are collectively known to geologists as the Honolulu Volcanic Series, eruptions from the Koʻolau Volcano that took place long after the volcano formed...
