May 13, 2013 - Homeward Bound
We have decided to go home a couple of days early, as pretty and interesting as this area is we are not really beach people and wanted to save our money for our next trip in June. The view was pretty tho, while we packed up to go. We drove about half way home and stopped at the Cordele GA KOA park. It was really nice, situated in an old pecan grove with beautiful large trees evenly spaced throughout the park. Very quite and peaceful evening under the cool shade trees. We made it on home the next day without incident. About the first or...

May 12, 2013 - St. George's Island
Another beautiful day at the beach. We drove along the beautiful scenic drive and went to Eastpoint, FL and drove over some very long bridges to St. George's Island. There was white sand everywhere. St. George's Island is long and narrow and after you drive down the one long road the length of the island you can began to see the ocean from both sides of the road. It was a new experience for me as I have never been in a place where you could do that. There is a regular small village with stores and houses in the wide part and then you turn...

May 11, 2013 - On the Gulf
We are in the Ho-Hum RV park in Carrabelle, FL. I found it on the internet and it is a rare find. Very reasonably priced and we are parked right on the edge of St. George's Sound which has a wide opening directly to the Gulf of Mexico. We almost did not get a spot. They gave us the last spot they had open which was right next to the road. Then they called us and had had a cancellation and had the beach spot which we took of course. We left our curtains open on the windshield so we could watch the waves come in. It was great. You can fish...

May 11, 2013 - Neels Gap
Quick stop, posting to say we're still alive. The trail is rough, but we're hanging in there. Blisters, sore muscles, and lots of rain. No bears yet, thanks goodness because I feel asleep last night with a wrapper in my pocket. We'll have more time to post pictures when we stay overnight in Fontana Village, NC!

May 10, 2013 - Skidaway Island, GA to Savannah, GA by way of Tybee Island, GA
Day 8 part deux: Destination: Downtown Savannah We took showers and packed up camp in the morning, and then drove to Tybee Island for lunch. We ate at Fannie's on the Beach to get our seafood fix. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, especially Lauren, who looked like she hadn't seen food in days when her crab legs arrived at the table. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so excited to eat lunch. We walked the pier and stopped in some tourist shops before heading to downtown Savannah. We got a hotel room, and ended up finding street...

May 10, 2013 - Beautiful day at Callaway Gardens
We arrived yesterday at Pine Mountain, GA. We are staying at the Roosevelt State Park. They have very large and beautiful campsites. We spent the day at Callaway Gardens. We watched the "Birds of Prey" demonstration, featuring a red shouldered hawk, a red-tailed hawk, a falcon, and a horned owl. We then toured the butterfly house, the horticulture center, and site where "Victory Gardens South" is filmed. Callaway Gardens is much larger than I had thought and takes up miles of rolling countryside. My favorite is always the butterfly houses...

May 9, 2013 - Charleston, SC to Skidaway Island, GA
Day 7 part deux: Destination Savannah, GA We left our amazing hosts this morning to head over to Savannah. Thanks Joe and Megan for allowing us to take over your small apartment and for showing us around. We all had a fantastic time and wish we could have spent another two weeks with you! I hope your engagement pictures were awesome today. I experienced a weird feeling today... hunger. That is until we got to The Wilkes House. So. Much. Food... It was ridiculous. We had to wait outside for about 25 minutes, but when you get inside, you...

Spent the day packing up and cleaning up. Got done early so we hiked the last 3 miles of the Pine Mt. trail. This was a great month, spent a lot of time hiking and seeing Columbus and LaGrange. Went to Callaway Gardens twice got in free due to retired military status. Having my last Fox Pizza tonight. Early to bed and up at dawn to hook up and drive to Troy Alabama. See ya.

May 5, 2013 - St Mary's, GA
We left the Lock right on time last Friday...right at ten AM. Up Ronald Reagan Turnpike to Gainesville, just short of 300 miles. Went there to see grand niece Heather graduate from UF. Lots of traffic accidents as we approached the city on I75. Total count of smashed cars was over 25. Drove to the lot we had been instructed to use by the University Police and there was no room for us...backtracked to a Walmart we saw as we came into town. However, Pathfinder was concerned that this particular Wally World was in Indian Territory, so at 11PM...

May 4, 2013 - Fort Benning, GA (near Columbus)
Yesterday was a short and leisurely 95 mile drive from Dothan to Ft. Bennings Uchee Creek FAMCAMP. It's located at the juxtaposition of Uchee Creek and the Chattahoochee River. The Chattahoochee divides Georgia and Alabama on the southern half of the two states. A beautiful river, as wide as it's reputation. This is going to be a week stay for us. The FAMCAMP is actually on the Alabama side of the river and therefore the central time zone. But, 1/4 mile east across the river is Georgia and eastern time zone! Could be confusing but the base...

May 3, 2013 - More Rain
We woke up to more rain. We had planned to go to St. Simon's Island today and wanted to go to the beach. We did go to Polly and Keith's motel and rode with them as we were determined to go. We found the island but kept getting lost trying to get around and everything is in a big circle. We did find a dock that went to the beach. We walked up on the dock and the wind and rain was so bad we did not go any further. So we did what anyone in our position would do. Found Will and Sarah along with Will's Mom and Dad (who were on the island...
