Oct 27, 2012 - Day Twenty-Two Shelby, NC to Winder
Left this am at 9:10 under gray skies and temp 65. Enjoyed our visit last night with Nannie, Becky and Terry. Planning a reunion soon. Strange to be drinking beer in Mama Roberts' kitchen. She thought it was the instrument of the devil. Papa Roberts would hide beer and bourbon from her in the basement. The clerk at the motel last pm was a Gamecock fan and a man at breakfast this am greeted us with "Roll Tide". We just missed Hurricane Sandy. The two ferries thatwe rode in the Outer Banks have closed and left people stranded on...

Jun 13, 2010 - Winder, GA
East of Atlanta We had wanted to stay at Stone Mountain RV park but they were too pricey, so opted to bypass Atlanta and head to another GA State Park in Winder (like “side-winder”), which was also where Cheryl was to connect with another distant cousin. Cheryl had been communicating with a woman who told us that she found her Great-Great-Great Grandparents' headstone in Winder, and this woman's parents lived near Winder. So her Dad, Ottis Casper, came by the campground and took Cheryl to the cemetery so she could take photos of this very...

Feb 9, 2010 - Day 10 Home
After 1396 miles, we are safely home. Sorry about the late entries, but we have been internet-less for the past two days. Also, we have some pictures of the shuttle launch, but since we are old, the pictures are on film and have to be "developed". That is certainly a concept that our children do not understand. We hope you have enjoyed our journal as much as we have enjoyed creating it. We hope to be "on the road again" soon.

Oct 10, 2008 - Day Thirty-Four GEORGIA!!!!!!!!
Molly says boo-hoo! On the last day, of our trip, we left Dayton, Tenn. and drove south toward Cleveland. Determined not to repeat any of our trip, we drove east to Murphy, NC and Hayesville, NC, then entered Georgia on Hwy 69 between Young Harris and Hiawassee. Driving east to Clayton, we then turned north. (The weird sighting of a pig in a Georgia Bulldog shirt handing us a BBQ sandwich was fitting.) Yes, Amy, we were tempted to visit those northeast states so that they would not feel like dead turkeys. But after filling our stomachs at...

Sep 7, 2008 - Day One
Day One was great! The weather was perfect and all these mountain vistas were superb. We ended our day in Chattanooga after traveling 300 miles. We left Winder at 8am sharp, traveled through Gainesville and made our first stop in Dahlonega, where we panned for gold. We found a few flecks, which Molly is convinced is enough to mount her next diamond (only if it is the size of a pinhead). After a quick trip through Helen, we headed toward Brasstown Bald (the highest point in Georgia for you Non-Georgians). We were afraid our trip had come to...

Sep 20, 2007 - Winder, GA
Thursday, September 20 After we set up in Fort Yargo State Park, we drove to Jeremy's football practice. He is on a team of eight-year- olds. Then we went back to Mary and Todd's house for dinner. On Friday morning we went back over to their house, and Gail and Mary did some shopping. After that the three of us went to Jeremy's and Evan's school for lunch. We ate when Evan's Kindergarten class ate, about 1 PM. The lunch was only $2.50 per adult and it was actually very good. They had a separate lunch line for adults. After lunch Mary went...
