Dec 30, 2019 - Townsend, Georgia

Today was quite a day. We got an early start from Fort Chiswell and headed south on I-79 through Virginia. This year we passed Fancy Gap without any issues. We continued south through North Carolina. The road construction at Charlotte is almost finished and didn’t cause us any concern. We contacted our friends Bob and Charlotte mid morning and found out they were having problems with their rv. They are having problems with their hydraulic pump system. They can’t put their slides out or lower their landing gear. We made a plan to meet up...

Jun 25, 2018 - Day 27 - Townsend GA

Moving day. Leaving Florida after almost 3 weeks. Outside of the RV is a mess after being parked in the woods and subjected to heavy rains. Takes a while to clean all the debris off the awnings. Shelli comes over to drop off the grandkids Michaela and Mikaia. We say our goodbyes and off we go. Take I-4 through Orlando. Major construction for over 20 miles. Looks like they're building a whole new interstate next to the current one. Makes the I-10 project in El Paso look tiny. Rest of the drive is uneventful. RV park is right on this...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Dec 31, 2016 - New Year's Eve

Ok, the target for today is Jacksonville, FL. We're on a roll now. WRONG! One again, there is no room at the inn. There is also no room anywhere South of Savannah, GA to 150 miles South of Jacksonville. After much searching, Ellen finds a "mom and pop" campground with all of 38 spaces and they have one vacancy! It's only 158 miles and traffic is pretty light this early in the day. We get set up and let Marley scope out the squirrels. Surprisingly, there is a Ruby Tuesday about 10 miles away so that's where we have our fancy New Year's Eve...

Nov 7, 2016 - almost there

With sad hearts we pulled out of the campground near my sister and headed south. We often tease her that she thinks that we come there to see her, but the real reason we come is for cheap gas. We rarely find a lower price anywhere else in the country. Because we did not go to a truck stop with its high speed pumps, it took us over half an hour to fuel. That was one of the reasons we decided not to go all the way to Titusville. That delay and the fact that it gets dark so early these days now that the time has changed, finds us paused at a...

Mar 22, 2016 - Entering the Low Country

We're back in Georgia for a couple of days. I'm surprised at hard it's been to find a camp site. We had to leave Cape Canaveral because none were available. We're at Lake Harmony RV Park in Townsend, GA but can only get a site for 2 nights when we wanted it for at least 3. I called 5 or 6 places in and around Savannah and Charleston and finally got a site outside Savannah for 4 days. We actually wanted 5 to bridge to our reservation in Charleston that starts on 3/29. I guess we'll have to scramble for that one night. I'm not sure what's...

Hi Everyone: For those of you who followed us on our past trips we welcome you back plus we extend a special greeting to all you "first timers". I just home we can keep the same pace as we did in the past and share a lot of great sights with all of you. After prepping the motorhome for two days; then hurricane proofing our house we finally departed on the road early this morning. By the way, we would like to thank Stefan and Elena for the farewell dinner they treated us to last evening. We actually made good time today heading up I-95...

Jun 12, 2010 - Townsend and Darien, GA

Today we arrived at the McIntosh Lake RV park in Townsend, GA, which is about 60 miles south of Savannah, GA. It is a nice, quiet little park and the lake is quite scenic. One of our first outings was to visit Darien, GA, which is a rustic, little - emphasis on little- town along the banks of the Darien River. At one time Darien was a major export port for timber, but just like what happened in many areas of the country they eventually cut down all the trees and then you know what happened. (For those of you from our home base in northern...

Apr 4, 2010 - A Beautiful Easter

Happy Easter everyone! We had a wonderful dinner at McIntosh Lake Park. We made fudge and decorated it with marshmallow eggs, plus a chicken and broccoli casserole. We took them to the Easter dinner in the clubhouse. Everyone brought a few things and it added up to a huge feast. We had ham, roast, turkey, chicken and all the fixings. :-) After the dinner, we had a grown up egg hunt. The kids in the park had several during the day. They passed Jerry's hat around for a collection of money for the prizes and collected $15.00. That went for the...

'Georgia....Georgia' Got that song on my mind as I sit and look out over our camp site on Lake Harmony in Townsend, Ga. Very peaceful. The pictures are from our drive up here and of our camp site. It was sunny and 80 degrees today. We will hang out here for the weekend and start making our way north on Monday. Have a great weekend, everyone! Fondly, Nancy and Steve (and Ginger, too!)

Mar 23, 2010 - Relaxing McIntosh Lake

We are in Townsend, Ga. We will be staying here for about one month. Our house is up for sale or rent, whichever comes first. We are enjoying some time fishing and relaxing, while the house is being shown. We found out about McIntosh Lake RV Park a few years ago from our good friends, Tony & Jackie Abasini. They even told which site they stayed in, site 14. :-) We requested the same site and enjoy it much. Thanks much Jackie and Tony! It is a beautiful park with tons of birds, ducks, geese and a relaxing, back to nature atmosphere. We love...

Jan 11, 2010 - OTRA - GA - Townsend

1/11/10 On the road by 11:30 for another nice, easy drive to the Florida Panhandle. But wait, first we went south as planned, but then the truck started heading northeast. Yep, you guessed it…another change in travel plans. Bob has been talking about the Georgia coastal area so we decided to take a side trip for a week (or two!) to the Brunswick, GA area. What a pleasant drive it was….wide, smooth highways, hardly any traffic (until we got to I-95, of course), beautiful scenery (mostly pines) and little towns with roads like “Eggs and...

Mar 17, 2009 - Welcome to McIntosh RV campground

Our 1st RV campsite on our 1st RV trip. We stayed here from 16 Mar - 26 Mar 2009. Nice park, too many bugs. Could not sit outside as very small black bugs would bite. We rode the HD from Jacksonville to Savannah and covered the coast as much as we could. We were surprised that there was not much to see here...lots of trailer homes and poverty. If we come back to this area, we will stay closer to a city. The towns are mostly real small and there is not much to do or see....
