Jul 2, 2011 - Southward Bound

We traveled for 8 hours today and made it to Tifton, Georgia where we stayed in a Lowe’s parking lot overnight. We could have made it the whole way today, getting home around midnight, but our driver desperately wanted to watch the Daytona NASCAR race on TV! That was fine with us though – we ate a nice dinner in the RV and then Sammy & I played Scrabble.

Build it and they will come. They will travel on a narrow, two lane road that is not striped, through the woods and out in to the country. They will find a way to find it. Those must have been the words of the person who conceived the plan to build Needmore Speedway. The track is out in the country and off the beaten path. Yes, they did find their way to the track and so did we! Last night’s race drew the largest crowd and the largest number of cars we have seen for a “regular” race. There were 108 race cars in 6 classes of cars. The...

Apr 22, 2011 - Tifton, GA

About 12:30pm today the air conditioner in the back turned off. I mean completely shut itself off. I don’t think it’s ever done that in the past. Ron checked the breaker and it had not been flipped off so we had no idea what was wrong. It’s probably the problem with the 30amp power. Ron decided to turn the breaker off, wait a moment, and turn it back on. It worked, the air conditioner could be turned on again. Late in the afternoon we ventured out and found a Thai restaurant and the food was excellent. After we ate we went on a mission to...

Apr 21, 2011 - Meandering near Tifton, GA

The reason we are staying in this area of Georgia is to visit a new dirt track that opened last year, Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Georgia. The race will be held the day after tomorrow but we wanted to drive to the track and take a look at it before we go to the race. Today we found our way to the track. It’s out in the country, back in the woods, on a two lane road. The track was originally started as a practice area for a farmer’s son so he could have his own practice track. I guess one thing led to another and now it’s a fully...

Apr 20, 2011 - White Springs, FL to Tifton, GA

We put Florida in our rear view mirror today and plan to be in Georgia for a few weeks before traveling to Tennessee. It was a 100 mile drive with a tremendous amount of northbound traffic on I-75. The license plates on the northbound traffic were primarily from northern states and Canada. I suppose everyone is heading home after spending the winter in Florida. This morning Ron worked to find a place to purchase new batteries. The first place he found with the batteries in stock would not do the installation. The coach has two batteries,...

Nov 3, 2010 - Bremen, GA to Tifton, GA

TIFTON, GA Cold weather is relative. Each person has their own definition of cold. My definition is when the night time temperature is below 50 degrees. Looking at the forecast for the weekend we can not escape the cold weather. Even Tampa will have temperatures in the 40’s. We stayed up late last night watching the election returns and did not plan to drive more than 100 miles today, however, we decided to go as far south as we can in an attempt to get out of the coldest of the cold.. The day was rainy, dreary, and cold but the...

R & B's TRAVELS

Jul 11, 2010 - Tifton, Georgia

We drove for 10 hours today! Russell was a trooper! The kids watched movies in the back most of the time. Sammy sat up front with Russell for a little while. She has been trying to see how many different state license plates she can find on this trip and she only has 6 left to get. Sitting up front she can see all the cars going by in hopes of checking them off her list. We stopped for the night in the early evening in Tifton, Georgia. We got a recommendation from the campground owner of a good BBQ place and decided to try it out. We were...

Jul 23, 2009 - On the road again...

Well, I posted one entry in the Trip Journal during our Spring trip to Santa Rosa Beach, FL and New Orleans. Our first trip to NOLA, we were disappointed with the restaurants in which we dined. On our second visit last Spring, we got recommendations from a law school buddy who went to Tulane undergrad and from a girlfriend of mine who attended Loyola Law, and found Domilise's Po' Boys, Pat O'Brien's piano bar and Igor's. We also met up with one of Rob's "Tiffin Internet" friends and his wife, who live in Kenner, for some huge burgers, huge...

Friday, June 1, 2007 We left in the rain. Got as far as Tifton, GA for what was supposed to be an overnight. It poured all night and looking ahead to our next stop, the rain was expected to continue for several more days. So, we decided to stay in Tifton an extra day to catch up on many things we left undone as well as shop for items we LEFT BEHIND. Damn! Saturday, June 2, 2007 It poured all day so we were glad not to be on the road. Accomplished many tasks and shopped. Sunday, June 3, 2007 With the sun shining, we left for our next RV...
