Jun 17, 2013 - Jacksonville FL/ Savannah GA
We spent 4 nights in Jacksonville FL. It is still hot and humid! We spent one day on Amelia Island exploring the historical town and visiting Fort Clitch and jumping knee deep into the Atlantic just to cool off. Another day was spent in St. Augustine. What a beautiful old town with lots of history.

May 18, 2013 - Savannah
I have found that Trip Advisor’s app for the Ipad is a fantastic traveller’s friend! We discovered “Savannah Dan” through Trip Advisor. Learnt so much about Savannah, Georgia. It is a beautiful old southern town. Georgia named after King George was the 13th state to be established by the British, colonized by Oglethorpe with as Dan put it “Bristish white trash”. So a free state with no slaves because the idea was they were bringing cheap labour from Britain. Unfortunately, they were not as cheap as slaves so Georgia could not compete with...

May 16, 2013 - Savannah Ga

Day 8 part deux: Destination: Downtown Savannah We took showers and packed up camp in the morning, and then drove to Tybee Island for lunch. We ate at Fannie's on the Beach to get our seafood fix. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, especially Lauren, who looked like she hadn't seen food in days when her crab legs arrived at the table. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so excited to eat lunch. We walked the pier and stopped in some tourist shops before heading to downtown Savannah. We got a hotel room, and ended up finding street...

Tuesday April 9, 2013 Savannah We followed scenic route 17 to the Savannah KOA only 72 miles. We got there early, 11 AM so we headed out to Tybee Island and had lunch at the Crab Shack said to have the best sea food on the island. It was good. They have 78 live alligators in their pond and if you are there at the right time you can feed them. After lunch we headed to the beach and the pier. It was a nice day and there were a lot of people. I guess spring break is still going on. After a quick stop at the lighthouse we visited Fort Pulaski...

Apr 12, 2013 - In The Garden
For our second day in Savannah, we hopped on the Old Town Trolley again to get to the Mercer House for a tour. The Mercer House was the setting for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The house tour focused on the art and architecture of the house. Jim Williams, the main character in the movie, owned the house and was in the vanguard of the historic preservation movement in Savannah. He eventually owned and restored more than 60 houses in Savannah and the Low Country before he was charged with murder of his assistant. He was eventually...

Apr 10, 2013 - A great birthday
Today we went about another 100 miles. At this rate it is going to take two weeks to get home! We walked the downtown historic city of Savannah. Glenna took me out for dinner to The Olde Pink House for my birthday dinner. It was delicious! It was 85F this afternoon, so with storm warnings in Ontario, I think we will spend some more time in the area. Tomorrow we will move up the coast to Mrytle Beach, and another day of visiting, as we plan to meet up with Jan and Bryce who are making their way south. I put up some pictures of downtown...

Mar 27, 2013 - Practicing our drawls in Savannah
Our travel day today was much more demanding – a full 200km! Over the border, into Georgia and up to Savannah. It took us to darn near 1:00pm to make that trip, set up camp and get ready to head into the city! Several visitors centres in American cities are located in the most awkward places to access, and Savannah’s was no exception. A wrong turn here, a missed street there and finally we are parked in the visitors centre parking lot, heading in for a quick crash course on Savannah’s highlights. It just so happened that there was a smooth...

Mar 20, 2013 - Arrived Savannah, Ga
We left Wilderness RV Park this morning. Posted is a picture of our site, without us in it. After just over two months in one location, it felt good to be traveling again. We took a different route to Jacksonville, FL, shorting today’s trip by about 40 miles. We arrived at the Savannah South KOA mid-afternoon and weren’t surprised by the number of fellow traveler heading North at this time.

Feb 16, 2013 - On Rte 17 to St. Aug
We are doing great. Jocelyn is the navigator and has had a few minor challenges but we are headed where we want to go now. She is surprised by how busy she is keeping up with iPhone, iPad, written journal and bathroom duties. She wants me to add that she learned how to poop while I was driving 60 mph on a windy day. The rest is left up to your imagination. So, we both had our worst fears addressed last night and found out they were baseless. Yes, Jocelyn did snore but it did not keep me awake so she can stay on the trip. Sorry, Kathy. Our...

Feb 16, 2013 - It is All About the Authors
Wilma and I attended three keynote speakers during the Book Festival: James Patterson, Dave Barry, and David Baldacci; all were all very interesting and well received by Book Fest participants. James Patterson explained how he publishes so many books each year. I personally do not think his books are as good as they used to be, and I think this is why: he uses a lot of co-authors to flesh out detailed outlines he creates. Patterson explained that he always has so many ideas for books that using the "detailed outline and co-authors" is his...

Feb 15, 2013 - Let the party begin!
My visits to Savannah are always fun. My very dear friend Wilma is a gracious hostess and always finds new places for me to visit that I have not seen yet. This time we toured the Green-Meldrim House, the Massie School Heritage Center, Temple Mickve Israel, the Uffizi exhibit (Offering of the Angels: Paintings and Tapestries from the Uffizi Gallery) at The Telfair Art Museum, the Harper Fowlkes House, enjoyed the Gryphon Tea Room for afternoon tea, walked through many of the historic squares and along River Street, rode the ferry on the...
