Mar 24, 2011 - Norcross, GA

Wrapping up the last couple of days in Norcross, we visited the Jimmy Carter Museum in Atlanta. I feel that the Carter's really deserve being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the recognition that award signifies. The continuing humanitarian efforts of the Carter Center are outstanding. I love visiting these museums. I am always amazed at what many of our Presidents do accomplish during their term in office. And, frequently, so much more after they step down from office. The downtown skyline of Atlanta is a maze of tall buildings. I almost...

Mar 22, 2011 - An old fashioned carnival

I have purchased 3 Groupon ticket deals. Today was the first time we used one. I took the instructions literally and did not print the ticket. I downloaded the Groupon app from iTunes to my iPhone. When you bring the app up on the phone, the deal you are using has a button that says "use this ticket". Press the button and the page displays a bar code. The ticket taker took a picture of the bar code using her iPhone and we were good to go. Very cool. It really works. The Groupon deal was $12 for $25 worth of rides at a Carnival in the heart...

Mar 20, 2011 - Stone Mountain State Park

We are in Norcross, Georgia staying at a park called Jones RV Park. It is not a destination park, but a good location for the sights we are interested in. We are here for a week and our first place to visit is Stone Mountain. Stone Mountain is another one of natures great marvels. At the summit, the mountain reaches 1,686 feet above sea level and 825 feet above the surrounding area. It is a little more than 5 miles in circumference. The mountain is "the largest exposed piece of granite in the world". The "granite" is composed of quartz,...

Mar 10, 2011 - Friends

March 10-13 From Waxhaw, we traveled south to Norcross, GA, where we stayed three nights at the Jones RV Park. From there, we visited long-time friends, Pat and Catherine, at their home. Unfortunately, we forgot the camera and didn't get a picture of Pat and Catherine. The next day we visited Larry and Sharrell at their home. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Jim & Nick's BBQ in Atlanta. John and Larry had worked together for about 12 years selecting sites for convenience stores. It was good to see these friends again.

Blessed To Travel

Apr 3, 2008 - Arabi, GA, to Norcross, GA

A quick 170-mile trip north on Interstates 75 & 85 has brought us to the Northeastern suburbs of Atlanta, home of the Braves! Now we didn't just come here to go to baseball games, but ... Dave has been a Braves fan since 1957 - and Chris since 1977 (when we were married! - ever hear of prenups?) - and this will be our first ever visit to their home ballpark, Turner Field! Good fun! The campground is situated about five miles from the end of the northeast-running MARTA line. We drove into the MARTA station, parked for free in their secure...

Our Great Adventure

Oct 16, 2007 - Norcross, GA (Atlanta)

This morning, after a wonderful, hot, long shower (I feel like a new person!) we worked our way to Atlanta (Norcross actually). This campground was not nearly as nice as the ones we had been at over the past few weeks but it did have private bathrooms (and, then again, it was not a mobile home park either - well, not entirely anyways!). But, we were a bit nervous about the clientele here, and we were in Georgia, and we are going to be leaving the camper alone for two nights, so we thought it best to cover our Gator tire cover with a towel...

Apr 3, 2007 - A New Host

From the Lowe's parking lot in Norcross (NW Atlanta), GA Another new experience for us.......well new in that we are parked in a store chain's lot which we have never used before. I have mentioned in previous journal entries that we are having a bearing replaced in the Jeep tomorrow at CarMax's Norcross, Georgia dealership. When we called them today to ask if they had a place on their lot where we could park the bus overnight, they said they did & we could, but that the Lowe's next door to them had a more level parking lot. So here we...
