Oct 3, 2009 - Milledgeville, Georgia
From Scenic Mountain RV Park, in Milledgeville, Georgia, 80 miles SE of Atlanta. We’ve all done it, I suspect. Regardless of what we call our home town, we (almost) always downplay the features of it, whereas visitors from elsewhere find exciting things to see & do in the same town. Not only do we downplay them by our words, we also do so by our actions; we live in a town for many years & never bother to see & appreciate its history & sites. I’m just as guilty as anyone. If you asked me about the worthy sites in Springfield, Tennessee, I...

Sep 23, 2009 - Workamping Happenings
From Scenic Mountain RV Park, in Milledgeville, Georgia, 80 miles SE of Atlanta, but relating to my workamping experiences as Evening Host at Caney Creek RV Park & Vicki’s as an employee at Caney Creek Marina. The predominant experience that we both had was meeting lots of really nice people, who were either long term tenants at the RV Park or marina, or were just overnighters in for short stays at the RV Park. As I would patrol through the campground, I could usually count on certain people to be out & then expect them just as well to...

Sep 20, 2009 - Thoughts on Workamping
From Scenic Mountain RV Park, in Milledgeville, Georgia, 80 miles SE of Atlanta. After four days of being in unplanned transition, we landed here yesterday afternoon. We will be here for at least a month, & then we will decide whether to remain here or roam elsewhere. I’ll chat more about these transition days & this area in a future entry, but for the moment I want to continue on the entry below that I have had in the works the past few days, working on as I had chunks of time. I had written several paragraphs detailing how we had not...

May 13, 2009 - Milledgeville
5/11 We found the nicest RV Park in a little town called Milledgeville for the next couple of days. It's a little rustic, but very well maintained and the hosts are very nice. The weather was quite warm when we got here yesterday, but has cooled down quite a bit. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow. Woke up this am not feeling too well so we didn't do much today. 5/12 A little history on Milledgeville...The fourth capital of Georgia, Milledgeville was named for John Milledge, Governor of Georgia from 1802-06. He was also a U.S. Senator...

Mar 21, 2008 - Milledgeville Georgia - The Antebellum Trail
Decided to take The Antebellum Trail. We found a campground near Milledgeville Georgia. After setting up on Friday we drove to Milledgeville and looked at some wonderful houses built after the Civil War. Most of this area was in the 'way' of Sherman's March to the Sea during the Civil War, so a lot of it was rebuilt obviously after ol Tecumseh burnt it down. After Milledgeville we drove to Gray and Old Clinton - they were unremarkable as tourist traps. Saturday we drove North on Highway 441 to Eastonton (did someone stutter in the 1860's)...

Jun 10, 2007 - Jacksonville - Midgeville Ga
Hard Headed Woman I left off the last posting in St Augustine. The only thing I can add is the concert at the Beach Pavilion we attended. We pedaled our bikes down the beach and spent the evening with the locals listening to a Joan Baez-ish folk singer. She was excellent. I left to use the facilities and returned to find Al on stage, requesting our wedding song, "Hard-headed Woman" by Cat Stevens. It was a great evening. Jacksonville We arrived in Jacksonville, after stopping at our appointment that involved work on the suspension for the...
