Jun 4, 2012 - Happy hour

We were awake at 04.30 this morning and raring to go. We wandered down to our 'free' breakfast and Gary made sure he got his moneys worth. He started with a bowl of cereal, followed by 4 slices of toast, 2 with cream cheese and 2 with peanut butter, all washed down with a cup of Sainsbury's Taste the difference Assam tea. We checked out at 07.20am and hit the road towards Kingsland. We decided to stop over here as we had read a review which made a huge issue of it being an historic town. So, Gaz decided that we should visit and have a walk...

Walked along some trails in the state park where we saw a Gopher Tortoise, White Tailed Deer, Golden Orb Spider and some different insects. 2 large navy ships sat in the bay. May 17, 2011 - Lulu's

Oh don't act surprised---if you've been reading my blog for the last six weeks and if you read last night about missing Lulu's, you know we'd go back!!! It was another beautiful day in Georgia and even in Florida as we headed back to Amelia Island. I was so busy yaking that I missed the turn off...at least I realized it about six miles down the road...Sam thought we were still on the right path! I think Shelia is really on to something when she compares us to Lucy and Ricky!!! Now all we need are Fred and Ethel in the backseat and we're...

May 16, 2011 - Amelia Island

Got an email from a friend that says our blog makes her think of a 21st century Lucy and Ricky...I think you may be right Shelia. Of course, my mom thinks we should rename our blog to Ryno's Epicurean Delights Adventures! It seemed like a good day for a day trip. The weather was beautiful and the high was anticipated to be low 70's. Decide we're going to Amelia Island (in Florida :/), but it's only about 20 minutes away. Our first destination on the Island (which is 13 miles long and two miles wide) is Lulu's Restaurant. This was the place...

May 15, 2011 - Sweet Georgia Peach (and the fruit too!)

Left the campground this morning and found a local woman set up beside the road selling Sweet Georgia Peaches...so of course we had to stop, sample, and buy!!! They aren't as fuzzy as those we've grown at home...looked more like nectarines. Next stop, just about 5 miles away, was the Submarine on Land-the USS George Bancroft. It's located just outside the gates of the Kings Bay Naval Base. Quite a surprise as you round the curve to see this huge thing sticking above the ground. Our grandblessing is turning 9 on June 1 so we had to go...

May 14, 2011 - 'Bama's wild ride!!!

We started the day out optimistically at 8:30 am. Thought we'd be out of Florida and in Georgia early afternoon. Had planned to head north on I75 and get to Valdosta, GA (thought it would be the fastest city in Georgia to get to). Got a little sprinkle shortly after we were on the road. It wa nice because it got rid of those pesky lovebugs (within the reach of the wipers anyway). By the time we pitted for lunch at a reststop though, the windshield was plastered. So bad, that Sam attempted to wash some of them off. Took out the maps and gps...

Mar 7, 2011 - Daytona Beach FL to Kingsland GA

Today was the last day in Daytona Beach. We packed up and left the hotel to head back to Ocean Park to check out a leather shop we saw yesterday. Some of the stands were not open by the time we got there but it did give us some time to go and have a look at a couple of displays we missed earlier. Carl's Speed shop was great for a visit as they had a small display on their history and their involvement in Bonneville Speed Week over the years. After an hour or so and a revisit to some of the more popular vendors, we decided to go back...

Apr 22, 2010 - April 20-27, 2010 Kingsland, GA

Apr 21 Today we went to Jekyll Island which is best known as the playground for the rich of Industrial America. Rich landowners took over the island in the late 1700s building fortunes raising sea island cotton until the Civil War. Then in the late 1800s it was taken over as a private retreat and the Jekyll Island Club prospered for more than half a century as a club for hunting, golf, tennis, swimming, horseback riding and lavish dining. As you drive around the island you can still see most of the “cottages” that were built for the club...

Apr 4, 2010 - Marching North

Last night was our final night at Titusville. Jan, Bryce, Ellen, Dennis, Glenna and I went back to Port Canaveral for drinks and dinner. We went to Milliken Reef for the second time. It’s a great place to watch the cruise ships leaving the port. We have also found it to be a pretty good spot to eat. We enjoyed a wonderful meal before returning to Dennis and Ellen’s for a night cap and our goodbyes for another year. This morning we did more hugs and goodbyes before traveling north to St. Augustine. We stopped here last year, and Glenna...

Mar 9, 2010 - Vince's March to the Sea

I felt like Sherman during the Civil War. I left northern Georgia this morning and pushed on until I got to my final destination at the Country Oaks Campground in Kingsland, GA right on the Florida border. The trip was generally uneventful, except for a couple of detours courtesy of the GPS. I think there is devil in my GPS. It took me on some really small roads instead of the interstate. I did get to see a fair amount of rural southern Georgia. I pulled into the campground around dark. I'll be here for 8 days. I'm going to a Classic car...

Mar 26, 2009 - Kingsland, GA - Kiki RV Park

We originally planned to stay here a week and ended up extending that to ten days. The weather was not cooperating - we actually received 9.38" of rain within a three day period. This campground has concrete pads, which were very much appreciated with all the rain. Nothing like good ole Georgia red clay to bury your coach in! While here we visited: St. Mary's: This is a lovely, small town on the coast line, with a salt marsh leading out to the Atlantic. There is a very nice park along the water front where we spent some time. Also, we...
