Jul 31, 2011 - To Grandmother's house we go...Part 2
Wow, yesterday was packed with activities! Alyssa, Jackson, Taylor and I hiked to the top of Brasstown Bald (the highest point in Georgia) yesterday morning. Of course we drove to the ranger station, then actually hiked the last mile. All the youngsters were leaving me behind, but I finally made it. Did you know that the temperature has never gone above 84 degrees up there? It was a beautiful day and I'll post pictures when I get home. You can even see my Mom's house from the top observation deck! We came home, changed into bathing suits,...

Jul 31, 2011 - To Grandmother's house we go...Part 3
The pictures above are of the view from Mom's deck (wow...) and the cake that Alyssa made for Ansley's birthday (Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and white chocolate ganache). Final day in the mountains....we went to church with Mom at Macedonia Baptist Church. Boy, did I miss my Methodist church and getting out at 11:30! Church was an hour and 45 minutes and I realized my attention span is only an hour. Haha! But it was nice to be together as a family taking up a whole pew, and lunch afterwards was great too. We had beautiful weather...

Jul 28, 2011 - To Grandmother's house we go...
Alyssa, her boyfriend Jackson and met Ansley in Hiawassee, GA to visit my Mom and LG for a long weekend. Last night we celebrated Ansley's 21st birthday (which was last week) and Mom's 70th birthday (which was also last week). My neice Taylor is visiting from Florida so it was nice to visit with her also. The "kids" and I took an evening walk, visited with Uncle Wade's mule and new puppies, and continued on down Owl Creek Road until an attacking dog scared us back home! Minus the snarling dog, it's so relaxing being in the mountains with my...

Jun 10, 2010 - Still visiting in Hiawassee
Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau ...... Lou and Chris finished up in Jonesboro, and decided to head up north, the 3-hour trip back to Hiawassee. Beau & I had gone to bed and they pulled in at 11:30 p.m. Chris did so well backing in the 43' monster. It is a really large RV. Next day we got a tour - Jessica has a W/D AND A DISHWASHER! I want one, and Lou has contacted Nuwa to see what it would cost for me to get one - it probably will be outrageous, but worth checking into it. I never liked doing dishes. The expense is not that bad at all;...

Jun 2, 2010 - Ellijay, GA to Hiawassee, GA
Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau ...... We were so glad to spend two weeks with Jeanne & Jack. We all enjoyed ourselves - it was as though we never were apart for over a year. We are good about keeping in touch via email & telephone. On June 1st we headed to north Georgia - actually to Hiawassee - to the River Bend Campground on the Hiawassee River. We are very close to NC & SC. My friend, Doris, in Jacksonville, and I caught up with my old neighborhood news, and with her, with what we are up to. She is so very amazing - 87 years old and...

May 15, 2010 - Back to the barn
THE HOGS ARE BACK IN THE BARN. Left Beckley WV this morning heading back to Hiawassee. We were looking at a 350 mile day, but thankfully the weather held until we got to Asheville, NC. Rain suits on most of the 100 miles back. We covered 5 states today (WV, VA, NC, Tn, and GA). Stayed on the interstates all the way, and they were some of the most beautiful roads you can imagine. Especially I 26 into Asheville. It is good to be back and I am pleasantly exhausted. We covered about 2200 miles in 9 days and wound up 1 day short of the original...

Apr 3, 2009 - Day 6
Day 6...we have walked 52.2 miles so far and man, do my knees hurt! In fact, they hurt so bad that Lu and i had to hitch a ride into Hiawassee, GA today, after hiking 9 miles this morning, to get myself a knee brace. We needed a little town break anyway after last night! Last night, the weather was so bad that I believe everyone we camped near, including us, got completely soaked inside their tent. Apparently, there was bad weather all over GA last night...we got some of it. Water was blowing in underneath the tent fly and through the mesh...
