Oct 23, 2012 - Discovering Greensboro and Lake Oconee

October 23, 2012-(Tuesday) Nothing to do today but wait. We explored a little around Greensboro, the town just a few miles west of our Flying J. it looks like nothing. In fact, we drove into Historic Greensboro and it was largely nothing. We did stop at the downtown square and had some lunch at the Yesterday Café that, to our surprise, was packed on a Tuesday. Most of the folks looked like retirees. It was hard to figure out where all those people came from. There was a nearby lake, Lake Oconee, and I just figured they had some homes around...

Oct 8, 2012 - A.H. Stephens Park

Georgia has beautiful state parks. You would think you were at a private retreat. Tall pines, graded gravel sites framed with timber, lots of space between sites, trails, historical sites and lakes everywhere. However, no reception- no phone, no TV.... So we went to bed early and arose early and took walks. Very nice.

Simpson RV travels

Sep 13, 2012 - Reynolds Plantation GA

Home at last. It never looked so good. We have traveled 9,490 miles over 6 weeks! As we look back on our trip we can't believe we did it. As we unpacked we found souvenirs we bought in the beginning of our trip that we had forgotten. It will take a long time to finish unpacking and catch up with mail. Rick and I combined took over 4,000 pictures so that will take Rick awhile to boil them down to fit in a video. - Happy to say all was well with our house and yard. Unlike a lot of the country, Greensboro has been getting rain. - We hope you...

May 4, 2012 - Lazy at the Lake Part 2 (or is it 3 or 4)

Thursday, March 29th found us back at Lake Oconee where we spent two weeks before returning to Cleveland, Georgia. On Friday we went to Gary and Blanche’s house on Lake Sinclair. Before eating our shrimp dinner, we took the pontoon boat out for its maiden voyage of the season. We picked up G & B’s friends, Gary and Sue, and the six of us spent a leisurely afternoon on the lake. We always have such a great time with them and are very glad we have gotten to visit them several times this past Winter. After a few more projects on the rig, we...

Apr 7, 2012 - Greensboro, Georgia

April 7 – Greensboro, GA Today, we took a tour of the little town of Greensboro. When we parked the truck, an elderly gentleman came up to us and started telling us about some of the history of Greensboro, and what sites were a must to see, since he saw our license plate from California. What a friendly thing to do we thought. Founded in 1786, this city is the county seat and hometown of Lake Oconee. The lake features more than 400 miles of shoreline and is home of 10 championship golf courses designed by some of the greatest golf course...

Nov 2, 2011 - North Shore Resort ROD

Site 171 which is a nice site, but cannot level the coach without the front end off the ground quite a bit...most of the sites are fairly unlevel and situated on hills here on Lake Oconee. Beautiful park and lovely fall colors now with clear blue skies and wonderful sunshine...moved to site 262 as I could not get satellite and the sewer was too far away from the coach... Site 262 has lots of nice grass on both sides of coach and gets good morning and afternoon sun on the passenger side. Walked the park and there are lovely sites with wood...

Nov 1, 2011 - Yearwood's Auto Service

Had my first breakdown on the road today...pulled into the Augusta, Ga Welcome center on I20 heading towards the west and the coach would not start when ready to leave. Made several calls and finally found another Rver who was kind enough to climb under my coach and connect the starter hot post to the cellanoid with a screwdriver which started the coach... Drove over to Yearwood's Auto Service outside Greensboro, Ga and he ordered a new starter and installed in the next morning. Set me up with power at his shop overnight and was truly a...

Aug 15, 2011 - Lazy at the Lake

Since our route for the summer had changed, we had to re-think our plans. Hurricanes were developing in the Atlantic so we didn’t want to head to the Outer Banks as we had originally planned to be about this time, so we decided to stay inland and slowly make our way south so we could be in the Keys for our scheduled visit in October. On August 15 we headed south to Northshore Resort on Lake Oconee. You probably recognize the name…we’ve been there several times before. It’s a great place to relax after all the running around we always do in...

Jul 3, 2011 - Home!

Two hard days of driving, and a glitch in the towing system so that Mary Ann had to drive the car, but we made it home just fine. The drive from Memphis to Birmingham is still the worst part of the trip - when will they ever finish I-22? But we are home and we had a great trip - thanks for joining us!

Western Roaming 2011

May 18, 2011 - Bellingrath Gardens then on to Baton Rouge, LA

After visiting Bellingrath Gardens in the morning, we will drive 200 miles to Baton Rouge, LA in the afternoon. Lakeside RV Park, Baton Rouge 225-686-7676 Bellingrath Gardens this morning was gorgeous - made promises to ourselves to come back here one spring to see the azaleas and camellias. Many tropical plants that are house plants for us in Georgia. Some of the best planters that we have ever seen. The Asian section of the garden was one of our favorites as well as the water gardens leading down to the grotto and the river. Gorgeous...

Western Roaming 2011

May 17, 2011 - Greensboro, GA to Mobile

Driving 4.5 hours today 7.5 hours. Hope road conditions on I10 are not suffering from the flooding. Payne's RV Park 251-653-1034 What an easy drive! We arrived here about 3 p.m. then went off to explore Dauphin Island. Walked out on the wide, wide beach by gorgeous ocean view here is spoiled by oil rigs on the horizon. Elementary school right at the dune line - kids can see the ocean from classroom windows and from the swings - might be hard to concentrate! At the other end of the island we found a 160 acre Audubon bird sanctuary tucked in...
