Oct 10, 2012 - Last Days of Freedom
We had planned to stay north of Atlanta one night and then south of Atlanta the next night before arriving in Americus for our winter job, but since there was nothing we wanted to see we decided to head on to Forsyth (south of Atlanta) and spend 2 nights there. This gave us time to do our laundry and get Otto cleaned up before heading onward. I found a place to get my hair done, and we got the information sent off to the warranty company regarding the food spoilage and motel stay while our refrigerator was giving us trouble. Traveling in...

Aug 10, 2011 - Wandering in Georgia
Aug 10 This was a day of sightseeing, not exactly the sights I had planned; but this area is so pretty with all the hills and trees that I enjoyed it anyway. I drove over the river and through the trees, literally, to get to Juliette Plantation, just to find out that it is only open on weekends! That wasn’t in any of the brochures!! So off to the town of Juliette where Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed, next to the town was a lovely lake and a high dam—that I tried to get a picture of but there was no way down to see it. The lake and the park...

Aug 9, 2011 - Forsyth GA
Day 3 Aug 9 2011 Today was a driving day, I got going about 8:30 and had to drive up I-75 to just above Macon to a town called Forsyth. Because it was an interstate day, my sightseeing was curtailed to a strip of concrete lined with trees. Every time I drive on the interstate, I remember why I dislike it so. It is boring. Unless the hills were very tall—and there were a few, there was no scenery. But those few glimpses were really pretty. I am now in a KOA in Forsyth. I had a gulp moment when I saw the road into the park, it was quite...

Jul 27, 2011 - andersonville
We went to Andersonville POW memorial in Georgia today. It was really impressive. It is unbelievable the amount of suffering the human spirit can endure and keep struggling to survive. We as Americans owe such a deep dept to all our men and women who serve and who have endured the hardship of captivity in war time. We spent about three hours there and then drove into Plain, Georgia to see where Jimmy Carter grew up. They have converted his old high school into a national parks visitors center. It was really interesting to see how he lived as...

Jul 26, 2011 - Atlanta
Just a short note as I'm pretty pooped. We went to a tour at the world of coca-cola. It was way cooler than i expected and we all really enjoyed it. The we went to the Georgia Aquarium which was spectacular. The had Beluga whales, giant manta rays and a tank you could walk under that had 3 whale sharks in it. you were so close to the fish it felt like you could reach out and touch them, Afterwards we went to a Braves baseball game. The stadium was one of the best I've been in so far. We hung tough through 13 innings but with no end in sight...

Mar 2, 2009 - Departure from Big Canoe
We've been in Big Canoe, Georgia, since the end of December, and it has been an unseasonably cold and gray winter. Our original departure was scheduled to be yesterday, March 1st, but the threat of winter snow gave us pause since neither of us were anxious to tow the RV on slick mountain roads. Fortunately the storm did not materialize, and we departed today under a sunny blue sky. Our journey for the day was relatively short, only about three hours south on I-75, to Forsyth, Georgia, which is about an hour south of Atlanta. Upon arrival...

Jan 29, 2009 - A Good Day
After the snow, ice, and cold of yesterday we wondered what this day would bring. We were not in any hurry to get back on the road and it was around 10 before we left the hotel. We were at a half tank of fuel so I topped it off before getting on the interstate. I noted the temperature was 27 degrees. I started the gas pumping and looked around for the stuff to clean the windshield. The car was filthy from the driving yesterday and I really wanted to get the grime off the windows which were only clean where the wipers hit. I realized I was...

May 17, 2008 - Forsyth, GA
We had a very short drive today to move a little further south. We stopped at the small town of Forsyth (accent on the second syllable). Don's niece lived not too far away and we were going to meet her for dinner. I would describe our campground as being in a pastoral setting. There was a horse in the pasture directly ahead of us and some cattle on the other side of the small park. It was about 2 ½ mi. off the Interstate so it was very quiet at night. The weather was beautiful. A little warm for Manni because it was humid. But no rain....

May 2, 2008 - First Day on the Road - Out of Florida
May 2, 2008 Forsyth, GA Goodbye home-Hello new adventure-we are on the road, everything attached (can you see our fingers crossed?) & we’re actually on time. Oops – I spoke too soon. We always seem to have one minor glitch. We thought we didn’t have trailer brakes. We weren’t a mile from home & had to pull over and start wriggling switches, plugs and what not. Very scientific! Anyway, after a few adjustments, whatever John did, the breaks are now working – we have a green light, we’re on Hwy 60 heading through Brandon and it is only 8:45....

Mar 26, 2008 - Fried Green Tomatoes
After a comfortable night of sleep we made ready to go visit the Jarrell Plantation and the town of Juliette, Georgia to have lunch at the original Whistle Stop Cafe made famous by the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. We were pleasantly surprised that it was and is everything that we had hoped it would be. The fried tomatoes are by far the best this old boy has ever eaten and Janie girl had two servings. I had the Bennett Pork Bar-B-Q and a Apple Dumpling with real Vanilla Ice Cream. The building dates back to 1938 and was a general store and a...

Mar 20, 2008 - small town America
Another day of fast and furious driving moves us sixty miles north. In Forsyth we are camped near the expressway, better positioned for the drive home when the driving really will be fast and furious. This location is also closer to some of the sightseeing attractions that The Rally sponsored as bus tours when we were there last week. In the early 1900’s, Juliette, GA was a booming community along the railroad tracks. Although the regularly used tracks are still there, the town went into decline. In 1991 Hollywood producers were looking for...

Nov 4, 2007 - We're almost there!
Well we're sitting here in a nice campground with cows & horses beside us in Forsyth, Georgia, which is between Atlanta and Macon. The traffic today was just plain crazy! The path we chose, although interesting and lots of sightseeing, is likely the busiest traffic corridor from north to south. At one point there were 7 lanes of traffic each way. Nothing that Winnipeg has ever seen!! The colours along the way were spectacular. At least that's my opinion. The pictures do not do it justice, because of the haze surrounding the mountains. We...
