Our next destination was Florence, GA to a very cool state park with a marina on the Chattahoochee River. It was very cold and rained a lot, but we had a nice time. Again the area did not offer a lot to do. We went into Columbus and checked out a 10 mile river walk, just a walking/biking trail along the Chattahoochee. Providence Canyon State Park was 9 miles away and had a ton of hiking trails. It was called the "little grand canyon" because it had a bunch of deep canyons all in different shades of red clay. Nov 13, 2007 - Florence Marina State Park
My last stop was at Florence Marina State Park on the Walter F. George Reservoir (a.k.a. Lake Eufaula). It is named for the frontier town of Florence which was incorporated in 1837. There is little of the town left now. The park is situated on the Georgia-Alabama state line due south of Columbus, Georgia about 35-40 miles, as the crow flies. May 23, 2004 - Florence Marina State Park
Had a great four days at Florence Marina State Park. We decided at the last minute to take Ginger the cat and she actually did very well. She ventured outside and pretty much stayed around the trailer and also visited the trailer next to us (they had a bird feeder so she kept her eye on that). The only part of the trip she really hated was the car ride. Loved being in the trailer -- it gets kind of crowded with two dogs, a cat and two people, but it's going to work out OK.
