Oct 25, 2010 - Franklin and Highlands
It was overcast and rainy today but that did not deter the intrepid explorers. We drove to Franklin and followed hwy 64 over to Highlands. Hwy 64 is a twisty turny narrow waterfall road and we stopped where possible to take pictures and do some exploring. There was one falls that pedestrians could walk under and another where a car could drive under. The group, sans Doug, explored around the walking under one. Doug sat in the truck and waited and when the group came back they were cold and wet, but they had fun. We then drove through...

Oct 24, 2010 - Exxploring N Georgia
Doug had another wild night last night. For the second night in a row he was unable to fall asleep and according to JoAnn it caused him to almost be in panic. She drug out some the the standby drugs he has had for chemo and found one that would work to get him to sleep. After taking two of them he was finally able to sleep. The orginal plan for the day was to go to the Dillard House for lunch but then it was decided that a Sunday noon during leafing season was probably not such a good idea. So David, Suzy and JoAnn took off towards...

Oct 23, 2010 - Tallulah Gorge
Neither one of us slept well last night, much to our chagrin. This morning we remembered that we each drank a bunch of caffeine at dinner last night. Consequently Doug was really wiped out all day today. Late morning we drove down to Tallulah Gorge where we planned to dodder around the rim of this beautiful place. Doug didn't even dodder on this trip. He shuffled and finally went back to the visitor's center to wait for the others to complete their hike. They had a great time and didn't get back to the center until 3ish. On the way home we...

Oct 22, 2010 - To Clayton GA
We had a gorgeous trip from Asheville to Clayton Ga. The colors on the trees kept us entertained. We wound down though the mountains without incident and had a very enjoyable ride. It took us about two hours. We arrived at our campsite and found the owners very pleasant and personable but the camp site, well, about the best we can say is that it is a Passport America and it only costs $15. per night with 50 amp, sewer and cable TV. But we are jammed in together pretty closely. When Doug plugged in our electrical monitor prior to hooking up...

Days Inn, Clayton, GA 3587- = miles We drove into Savannah this morning. At the Visitors Center we signed up for a Trolley Tour. It was about 90 minutes long, and very interesting. There are still 22 out of the original 24 "squares" left in Savannah, and I think the guide took us by all of them. There are different sections of Savannah; the "Colonial" is one (I can't remember the others). Some General or such named Oglethorp was the leader of the colony. He had certain rules the people had to abide by. One was (and the funniest) that no...

Jun 11, 2006 - Tallulah River at Lakemont, GA
We moved on up into the northeast corner of Georgia and the Horseshoe Trails Park in a larger complex called Mountain Lakes Resort. It was very nice, even better than the North Shore Park that we had liked. I participated in the water aerobics, we also attended a pot luck dinner one night that was very pleasant. They also had a big water slide, miniature golf, horse back riding, a lake for fishing and paddle-boating and a lot more.
