May 2, 2013 - Graduation Day

Well, the rain did let up during the morning which was a blessing for the graduation. We had to be signed in and checked out before we could enter the facility as it is a Homeland Security campus. They did let us in. There were about 46 men and women graduating. An Air Force officer came and explained what an OSI Special Agent was and did. I was very impressed. The graduation took awhile as they had to introduce everyone and then give all the graduates their shields and wait while each family group took pictures. Afterwards Will's Mom and...

Spring Trips 2013

Apr 21, 2013 - Moving Northward

It’s time to start the move north! Today we drove north on I-75 to Brunswick, GA and stopped at the Golden Isles RV Park. We have used this park as a stopping point in the past. It has convenient pull thru sites and good utilities. Sue is starting the recovery process from a torn lateral knee ligament. She is walking like Tim Conway and does "up with the good, down with the bad" on stairs. The doctor says it will be two to four weeks for full recovery. P.S. Rick is doing fine and recovering from pneumonia.

Apr 8, 2013 - Coastal Georgia

Slight change in plans. We're not due in Savannah for the HOP until Wednesday and the KOA where we will be staying didn't have any sites open for Monday and Tuesday. We decided to stay in Brunswick after a short trip to St. Simons Island for a DDD fix. This trip has been short on DDD visits so for lunch today we went to Southern Soul Barbeque. It looks like an old renovated gas station and it's located on a traffic circle (rotary or roundabout for those of you who live in other parts of the contry). This presented a problem for Winnie as...

Apr 7, 2013 - Brunswick

”. We had a nice get together with some of the other people from Camping World at our favorite bar for wings “Uncle Fats April 7, 2013 First week retired! Not a perfect start, backing up the truck to pack items in the shed I backed into the neighbors slide out denting his siding and pulling off the corner molding. Also destroying the rear dually fender on the truck. After a couple of hours work his siding and corner strip looked almost as good as before it was hit. The truck fender will have to be replaced but I was able to get...

Jan 9, 2013 - Brunswick, GA

The last three night we have been at Coastal RV Park in Brunswick, GA. We stayed here two years ago on our way home from Arizona and it is one of our favorite parks. The site we have backs up to a lake. The ride down was uneventful. Coming down through South Carolina we started seeing the live oaks with the moss hanging down. Yesterday we spent the day around the campground getting laundry done and getting a few groceries and just taking it easy. Today we went over to St. Simons Island. We went over there two years ago but just went to...

2013 - Florida

Dec 29, 2012 - Back "home" we go

After a busy week in Ontario it was time to go back home. Christmas eve was spent at Matt's parents home and after our Christmas morning at the Smith's we headed to Toronto for a family dinner with Matt's extended family. This week was a change for us because we had to wear coats and had snow to deal with. We sure have not missed that. An overnight snowfall made the wait at the airport an extended one. Boarding was on time, but the de-icing line-up made for a two hour delay. Once in the air things went much better. After landing in Atlanta,...

Dec 28, 2012 - Brunswick, GA

Had a good day today. We thought we'd be driving into rain, but it was dry the whole day. We started out early--on the road by 8 a.m.and 41 degrees. At 2:15 it was 51 degrees in Manning, GA. We are in Brunswick, GA for the night (reached 58 degrees), and covered 601 miles. We'll have 346 miles to cover to get to North Lake Estates, in Lakeport, FL (346 miles). No problem! We're glad that we'll arrive in the early afternoon, because we'll have a bit of work to do to get the house "up and running." Mike will have to turn the water and...

Nov 23, 2012 - Weekend plans - edited

Packing a small suitcase for our stay in Jacksonville tomorrow after a visit to St Augustine Beach. There is an evening light show on the river. Boats of all sizes will be decorated with lights and parade along the riverbanks in the downtown area. The night will end with a fireworks display from barges. We will spend the night and try to head back before all the crazies head home after the Thanksgiving weekend. Pictures to follow. The beach was deserted on a cool but otherwise beautiful day. We strolled on the beach and visited the...

Nov 11, 2012 - Minor update - edited

Really not much has been happening. We are relaxing one day and taking day trips to the surrounding areas the next. We have been to St Simon Island and traveled north to Damien for a small antique show/car show. Another of our trips was south to Jacksonville. This drive was along the coastal highway where possible. While driving past the pier in Jacksonville we saw the Carnival Fascination in port getting ready for her next Bahama cruise. We also attended another car show at the Budweiser brewery in Jacksonville and enjoyed a few cool ones....

Nov 7, 2012 - The Old Rice Plantation

We went to the Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation and it is well worth the price to get into to see all that is there in the house and on the grounds. The nature walk is nice walk on the river banks in the woods that have spanish moss hanging down and a nice walk to and from the house.

Nov 6, 2012 - Rice Plantations In The South

We got to see some cotton plantation in Charleston, SC a few years ago and now we get to see in GA some rice plantations. The Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation is the only plantation in GA that has all old the furnishings of the house from the 1800's up to 1956 when the last person to live in the house gave the plantation to the state of GA. The beds, chairs and all things were kept in the house and new things were added to the house until 1956. Nov 6, 2012 - Blythe Island Park, Jekyll Island, St. Simon's Island and Brunswick,GA

We drove north to the Brunswick, Georgia area and stayed at Blythe Island Regional Park, a really nice county park. The Park was only about 5 miles from an exit of I-95 and located near US 17, the route we took south from Pennsylvania. Site 77 was a pull through in the woods and was probably the largest RV site that we have ever stayed in. It was level and hard packed sand with a concrete pad on the side for the picnic table. We have full 50 amp service with water and sewer and cable TV. There were two small lakes with a sandy beach on one...
