Dec 29, 2012 - Back "home" we go

After a busy week in Ontario it was time to go back home. Christmas eve was spent at Matt's parents home and after our Christmas morning at the Smith's we headed to Toronto for a family dinner with Matt's extended family. This week was a change for us because we had to wear coats and had snow to deal with. We sure have not missed that. An overnight snowfall made the wait at the airport an extended one. Boarding was on time, but the de-icing line-up made for a two hour delay. Once in the air things went much better. After landing in Atlanta,...

Dec 28, 2012 - Brunswick, GA

Had a good day today. We thought we'd be driving into rain, but it was dry the whole day. We started out early--on the road by 8 a.m.and 41 degrees. At 2:15 it was 51 degrees in Manning, GA. We are in Brunswick, GA for the night (reached 58 degrees), and covered 601 miles. We'll have 346 miles to cover to get to North Lake Estates, in Lakeport, FL (346 miles). No problem! We're glad that we'll arrive in the early afternoon, because we'll have a bit of work to do to get the house "up and running." Mike will have to turn the water and...

Nov 23, 2012 - Weekend plans - edited

Packing a small suitcase for our stay in Jacksonville tomorrow after a visit to St Augustine Beach. There is an evening light show on the river. Boats of all sizes will be decorated with lights and parade along the riverbanks in the downtown area. The night will end with a fireworks display from barges. We will spend the night and try to head back before all the crazies head home after the Thanksgiving weekend. Pictures to follow. The beach was deserted on a cool but otherwise beautiful day. We strolled on the beach and visited the...

Nov 11, 2012 - Minor update - edited

Really not much has been happening. We are relaxing one day and taking day trips to the surrounding areas the next. We have been to St Simon Island and traveled north to Damien for a small antique show/car show. Another of our trips was south to Jacksonville. This drive was along the coastal highway where possible. While driving past the pier in Jacksonville we saw the Carnival Fascination in port getting ready for her next Bahama cruise. We also attended another car show at the Budweiser brewery in Jacksonville and enjoyed a few cool ones....

Nov 7, 2012 - The Old Rice Plantation

We went to the Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation and it is well worth the price to get into to see all that is there in the house and on the grounds. The nature walk is nice walk on the river banks in the woods that have spanish moss hanging down and a nice walk to and from the house.

We got to see some cotton plantation in Charleston, SC a few years ago and now we get to see in GA some rice plantations. The Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation is the only plantation in GA that has all old the furnishings of the house from the 1800's up to 1956 when the last person to live in the house gave the plantation to the state of GA. Nov 6, 2012 - Blythe Island Park, Jekyll Island, St. Simon's Island and Brunswick,GA

We drove north to the Brunswick, Georgia area and stayed at Blythe Island Regional Park, a really nice county park. The Park was only about 5 miles from an exit of I-95 and located near US 17, the route we took south from Pennsylvania. Site 77 was a pull through in the woods and was probably the largest RV site that we have ever stayed in. It was level and hard packed sand with a concrete pad on the side for the picnic table. We have full 50 amp service with water and sewer and cable TV. There were two small lakes with a sandy beach on one...

Next in line is Brunswick , GA to go see some old plantations , British Forts and "TABBY" . We are staying at a RV resort that has seen its days and could be alot worse then it was. Oct 31, 2012 - We have a place to call home

After spending a week here, we have decided that this will be home until the end of the year. The park is clean, not pricy and many places are close enough for day trips from here. The only drawback is the internet service here is not very good. We have visited Jeckyl Island already and are off to Simons Island tomorrow.

Oct 25, 2012 - Time to settle down for a while

After a short 2 hour drive today, we arrived at our home base for up to a month in Brunswick, Georgia. The next few days may be a little cloudy and breezy due to hurricane Sandy. They think it will be about 3-400 miles off shore and will have passed us by late Saturday with not too much effect. We will explore the area and also spend time just lounging around. Temperatures are in the upper 20s C and in the low 20s at night.

Jun 24, 2012 - It's just about over.....then Debby comes along!

Well folks....it's almost over. The Keil adventure is coming to a close. You know our trip couldn't end quietly with the sun setting over the horizon and the kids sleeping in the back seat. Nope, we have to have a freakin' Tropical Storm coming at us!!! Good grief!! I hope Florida stays afloat long enough for us to drive through it to get home. We are in a hotel tonight resting up for our final leg tomorrow. We have about a 5 hour drive. We'll take it slow and steady. Thanks for following us along our journey! It's been fun and a great way...

Jun 24, 2012 - The Maiden Voyage

Our first trip was to Myrtle Beach for driving school to better drive this 44', 50,000 lb. monster. We planned to overnight in Brunswick, GA to break up the trip. Well, when we got up Sunday morning TS Debby had come to escort us. Even with the rain, we decided to go on as it did not seem like it was going to get better anytime soon. We closed up the coach, hooked up the car and headed off. Of course, Debby brought heavy winds and rain along with lots of water on the roads. This made for an interesting first trip. We arrived at Costal...
