Aug 11, 2012 - Athens, GA...

Well tomorrow is a lot longer ago then we had planned as I said in my last post, so let me jump right in and try to catch up.. In my last post we were in Georgia and on our way to a wonderful two weeks in the mountains right on the border of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.. Awesome trip. After our last trip (I’ll get to that one later), Bill noticed that our new tires had some unusual wear on them so we took our house to a dealer that aligned tires only to learn that it was not an alignment that we needed at all but the fact...

Aug 9, 2012 - Here we are again/2012

Wow… Let me start by saying that is good to be back… The last we talked about is when Bill had to have open heart surgery in Billings, Montana… What a nightmare… We survived that and were able to be there when our second great-grandson was born a week later… It was wonderful to be there during that time and tomorrow he will be 1 year old.. Wow, does time fly… About six weeks after Bill had his surgery, he was supposed to start physical therapy but when you are a full time RV’er you do not always have that choice if you are not in your...

Jun 9, 2012 - Athens, home to R.E.M and the B52's

Got up early, 6.20am to get on the road to Athens today. Had to wait for our breakfast to be ready until 7.40 and when it did get served it certainly wasn't worth the wait. We hit the road at 08.15. We stopped off for brunch at Cracker Barrel to break the journey up. We arrived in Athens at about 1pm and checked into the same Best Western that we stayed in 9 years ago. We were lucky and got given a room with a whirlpool bath in, which was great. We wanted to visit the Georgia State Botanical Gardens in Athens but decided to do this...

May 1, 2010 - graduation

As high school educators we have attended more graduation ceremonies than we care to remember. Our high schools were large; graduating classes often had over 800 names to be read. The speeches tended to be boring, predictable, and platitudinous. We were delighted to attend our niece's graduation ceremony, because becoming a DVM is a big deal, but our expectations for the actual event were pretty low. But with a graduating class of 94 and a faculty who had been closely involved with all these students, the ceremony was intimate and personal...

Mar 8, 2008 - showering the baby

We've come north as a cold front came south and the ten minutes of sleet reminded us how lucky we have been to be away from home this winter. We dug the parkas out from under the bed and settled in. Our campground is deep in a holler in the piney woods and our satellite dish is incommunicado. We have a cable TV cable, but it doesn't work. The campground has internet service, but the signal is weak and we can't hold onto it long enough to accomplish much. This truly feels like camping. However, we are only fifteen minutes from our ultimate...

Apr 6, 2007 - Ft. Yargo in Winder, GA

April 6 Friday, The route from Knoxville went down I-75 around Chattanooga and across the top of Atlanta on I-285. The traffic was heavy on I-285, but it kept moving. We arrived at a Georgia State Park called Ft. Yargo, which is about 15 miles from Mary and Todd's and the grandsons' house mid afternoon. This is the park we discovered last summer when we were helping Mary and Todd pack up their house to move to another one. Mary had been visiting relatives in SC, WV and KY this week before Easter and only returned home this Friday afternoon...

Full-Time-RVing

Feb 7, 2007 - Greensboro GA, North Shore Resort At Lake Oconee, Elev 512 ft

We left South Carolina and headed back into Georgia for the rest of the month. What a beautiful state Georgia is! The RV park we are in is built on a hillside on the Oconee River. Each site is terraced and has its own deck. You can see the river from each site. Notice in the sunset photos how you see the tops of the campers below us. I took the photos out our window by the dining table. What a great view while we eat dinner!! We like it so much here we are going to try to extend our visit until Sunday before moving up into the Blue Ridge...

Feb 4, 2007 - Super, Duper Sunday

After experiencing the magic of Jekyll Island we travelled two more hours up the coast to St Helena Island. We chose this island because it was the first home of the Gulah Geechee, a group of West African slaves who created and maintained their own language, culture and spirituality through their slave years and into the present. On our way there we took a wrong turn - actually Dusty ignored Carol's directions - and we ended up at Hilton Head! So, back around we go and finally we get to St. Helena and our campground - TUC in De Wood. TUC in...

Ohio Golden Girls 07

Jul 7, 2006 - The North Shore, Greensboro, GA

We had originally planned to stay 2 weeks here, amongst the pines on the shore of Lake Oconee, but our change in plans has cut our available time down, so we will only stay three days. This will enable us to make a very quick visit to see family farther north in the state. This park is on the site of the old Carey Station Depot, and many of the rental units are actually old train cars. While we were here, there was an infestation of something called Mayflies. They were swarming all over many of the rigs parked right at the waters edge, but...

Well its time to hit the road. We leave with mixed emotions. We have such great friends at Highland Walk and family close by that its hard to say so long. We have had a great 2 months and have made more memories that we will carry with us. But we are on the road again and looking forward to the times before us. Gail, Jerry and Corky

Jun 1, 2006 - Greensboro, GA

We drove on to Greensboro, GA. to what, I think, is the nicest park we have found yet. The directions to it could be improved, and as most of you know, I'm a fanatic about maps and directions, Terry too, and because of that skill, we didn't have to back track, as I imagine a lot of people do. The park is called the North Shore Resort and is located on Lake Oconee at the site of the old Carey Station Rail Depot. They've utilized various types of train cars for offices, the general store, the clubhouse, some of the comfort stations and even...
