Apr 9, 2013 - Georgia on my mind...
Whether you're a Bulldog fan or hater, there's no other place to be in April than Georgia and Augusta for The Master's. So our plans have finally come together and we headed the RV northbound for our longest trip since putting Street Fleet into service a year ago. Hard to believe it's been that long, or we've enjoyed being underway this much that we actually planned a 2 month journey that will take us as far north as Washington DC, west to Tennessee, then south to New Orleans and finally home to Florida to catch the Memorial Day weekend at...

Nov 18, 2012 - Pointes West Army FAMCAMP
We had a terrific day to drive the 290 miles from our friends (Lee & Sheila Dodd) home in Alabama to Pointes West Army FAMCAMP near Appling, GA. The drive took us through some rolling hills of east Alabama and south, but we also had to drive through Atlanta. Not our favorite city to drive through but she did it well. In fact, Rebecca drove 100 miles, Dave drove about 80, then Rebecca went the last 105 or so. She's such a trooper. We were surprised to find the campground was busy, but our reserved space was held for us. We love that spot at...

May 11, 2012 - Augusta, GA (again)
The 157 mile drive from Hunter Airfield to Pointes West Army Resort, near Augusta, GA is always quick and easy. After leaving Savannah on I-16 heading west we turned north on Hwy 25 for the remainder of the ride. On I-16 we encountered a slight delay due to a couple big rigs turned over, crashed and very wrecked. It’s always sobering to see something like that, kinda makes one reflective and cautious. Another interesting thing happened to us, while on hwy 25 somewhere near Statesboro we saw a couple roadkill one wouldn’t see too many other...

Dec 24, 2011 - Pointes West FAMCAMP, Augusta, Ga
We pushed it hard yesterday so we'd have a short day on this day. From Tallapoosa, Ga to the FAMCAMP was an easy 198 miles through Atlanta on to Augusta and out to the lake front RV spot we setup upon. We made our goal, Yuma to Augusta by Christmas Eve! We setup, cleaned up and drove over to son David's home by 4 p.m. ! Hi 5's, all around for the effort... Total driving mileage for this trip, 2383 miles, 48 hours, 24 minutes driving ! Final note: we could not have reached this goal without BOTH of us driving. We like to switch out drivers...

Dec 5, 2011 - Dave's Birthday Party
This is THE BIG SIX OH for Dave and he wanted to give alittle back to his friends and family for all their support of him. Dinner was at a little mexican restaurant we like out on South Virginia Avenue in South Reno, Rosita's Cocina. We invited 27 people and they all showed up for dinner on Dave! Perhaps they all know, they'd better take advantage of the occasion since, as Rebecca say's "he's cheap, it'll be another 60 years for him to do this"! We don't often post entries involving personal events such as this, howeve, Dave turns 60 only...

Nov 21, 2011 - We get a new box
Rebecca's brother, Tim after hearing our plight of the destroyed Porta-Bote last spring, wanted to make another box or rack for a new Porta-Bote. We have a line on a near new bote being sold to us by friends who live in Conroe, Texas. Tim worked long and hard to construct this new box, but needed Dave's help to secured it to the bottome of the coach. This box is constructed more solid and is attached underneath more secure. To give you and idea of the size of the box, it's 6 inches tall, 24 inches wide, 11 feet long. For more information...

Mar 28, 2011 - Last Day in Georgia
From Winfield COE Campground outside Augusta, GA … Monday, March 28, 2011 We did end up staying one more night here in Georgia. Rain was predicted for most of the day on Monday all along our route, including some snow in Virginia. We really didn’t want to drive in the rain, so we opted to wait until Tuesday to leave. Unfortunately, someone had reserved our campsite for Monday. So this morning we had to move two campsites down. This meant pretty much packing everything up for the move even though we only had to move a few yards. The rain...

Mar 27, 2011 - Riding out the Storms
From Winfield COE Campground outside Augusta, GA … Sunday, March 27, 2011 Despite the high pine pollen this week, we have enjoyed really nice weather. On Wednesday and Thursday the winds were so strong that we didn’t spend too much time outside because of all the pollen. I’ve never seen so much pollen before, and we thought we had it bad in the Roanoke Valley. Rain was forecast for the weekend, but we had no idea how bad it would get. On Saturday morning we decided to go ahead and put some things away before the rain moved in. Charlie...

Mar 22, 2011 - Can you say Pollen Count?
From Winfield COE Campground outside Augusta, GA … Tuesday, March 22, 2011 We have enjoyed two very laid back days down here in Georgia. The weather has been warm but with a nice light breeze. It is really beautiful here, so we have spent most of our time outside walking, biking, and sitting by the lake enjoying the views. The only downside is the pollen. According to the weatherman here, the pine pollen count is peaking. And we are in Day 4 of an 8 to 10 day pine pollen peak. I guess we timed this just right, didn’t we? Of course, we are...

Mar 19, 2011 - Winfield COE Campground, GA
From Winfield COE Campground outside Augusta, GA … Saturday, March 19, 2011 This morning we were up around 7:00am. We needed to go out to fill up the truck with diesel before we got on the road. If we have the option, it’s just easier to fuel up the truck before it is hitched to the fifth wheel. Then we don’t have to worry about finding an easy place to stop. We only had to drive a couple of miles to find a place to buy diesel, and today we paid $3.79 per gallon. Even at this price, it’s about 11 cents cheaper than it was in Fort Myers....

Oct 16, 2010 - Last Day at Winfield
From Winfield COE Campground on Strom Thurmond Lake in Appling, GA … Saturday, October 16, 2010 We enjoyed another picture perfect day for our last day here at Winfield. The skies stayed clear and blue all day, and the temperatures were in the high 70s. We slept in until 8:45 when I finally woke up. It was quite chilly in the RV, so I got up and turned on the furnace for a while to warm things up. Our furnace uses propane heat and will warm up the house pretty quick. We only had to run it for about 20 minutes. By this time we were ready to...

Oct 15, 2010 - Mistletoe State Park
From Winfield COE Campground on Strom Thurmond Lake in Appling, GA … Friday, October 15, 2010 We woke up to a mere 50 degrees this morning. So it was perfect for having breakfast by a campfire. Charlie built a beautiful fire for us, giving us a great start to the day. We decided that today we would check out Mistletoe State Park. This park is only a couple miles down the road. I read that they had some nice nature trails and a good campground too. So we packed some drinks in the cooler, our binoculars, and we were on our way. It cost...
