Feb 7, 2012 - Moving South
Our departure from Ortega on Monday was on a cold and overcast day. The weather had shifted and so had the atmosphere at this dandy marina. At the end of the three day festival for the super bowl, Amy and Kris announced that they had been let go by the new management team for the condo complex. This couple had run the thing since the early construction days and had made it into the wonderful place to stay. One wonders what it will be like without them. Underway, our first challenge was the nearby railroad bridges that both seemed to be in...

Jan 31, 2011 - Trip to Vero Beach
On Friday, Mike and I drove over to Vero Beach (East Coast) to visit our friends Gail and Dave. We took our boat, as Dave was anxious to fish. I have known Gail for over 30 years, as we both attended CCSU for undergrad and both were Business Education teachers. We served on the Executive Board of the CT Educators' Assn. and attended many meetings together. We both retired in 2007. Anticipating retirement, Gail and Dave bought a beautiful condo in Sea Oaks Tennis Community a few years ago. Dave is an avid player, and Gail is taking...

Dec 31, 2010 - 12-31-2010 New Years's Eve
We followed highway 1 most of today. We had many views of the ocean. We drove until 6>30. It was dark when we set up camp. That made it a bit trying. We saw a few armadillos today. We also saw many large marine birds. Not sure of the type. There is a New Years party in the campground tonight but I don;t think we're going. Memaw is already trying to sleep and it is only 9 o'clock. Oh wey'all'll have a Happy New Year!!!

Feb 8, 2010 - Vero Beach, Flordia
Folks here we are again. We made a mini trip down south. Pete was able to use his metal detector. He has wanted to play with his detector for a long time but waited until retirement. We went down to Vero Beach, Florida. It is known for the Eleven Spanish Galleons that sunk of the coast between Vero and Sebastian inlet. He detected for about five hours and only found a quarter. Tammy told him he made 5 cents an hour for all his work but it was not what was found , it was the enjoyment of looking. Vero Beach is just beautiful. We stayed at...

Apr 11, 2009 - Back in the U.S.
Well were back in Vero Beach,Florida. Its nice to be in civilization again, but have very fond memories of Bahamas. We crossed the Gulf Stream okay and checked in,this time we cleared customs in Palm Beach which was very easy and convenient. We walked to a small grocery store,we got a few things, didn't want to buy much as we knew we'd be in a Walmart soon. After which we left the anchorage in Lake Worth and went outside to Fort Pierce and up the inland waterway to Vero Beach, where the mooring is $12. per day and the public buses are...

Day 10 Tomorrow we are booked in at Juno Beach, so today we thought we would drive part way and stop at Vero Beach. Sunshine Travel RV Resort is a highly rated campground so we thought we would check it out for future consideration. Every site has a concrete pad as well as cable TV and wifi. After setting up camp we traveled east to the ocean and thought we would go north on A1A and check out the beaches. It is cold and windy here today. There were very few boats out on the water, a very few surfers in wet suits, and absolutely no sun...

Nov 9, 2008 - Vero Beach - Habitat for Humanity
Dan and I are in Vero Beach, Florida with our friends Blanche and Gary Thomas. We are here for 2 weeks building houses with the Habitat for Humanity. There are Habitat organizations around the world. They build houses using mostly volunteer labor, donated materials, and donated funds. They sell these houses to needy families for a price that the family can afford. On average, they sell the houses for $50,000. The adult members of the household must volunteer for 300 hours each, they must payoff all non-medical debt, and they must have...

I've learned alot and hopefull I can cram some more learnin' in this nogin o' mine. Enough for now, I'm back to work.
