Aug 13, 2004 - Hurricane Charley

Friday the 13th, and Hurricane Charley is on it's way. Winds up to 145 mph have already been recorded. I'm staying in Eric's trailer on the drop zone. Oh dear. The police have already paid a visit to inform us of a mandatory evacuation order. We've spent most of the day preparing for the worst, stocking up on beer and cigarettes.

Jun 5, 2004 - No more two beds.

First of all, sorry for no updates for a couple of days. I have been living in paradise with the Wood's and did not get a chance to do an update. Won't happen again. After I sucessfully dropped off Larry, bad things started to happen. I called Madeline around 11 AM as I expected her to be landing around that time. To my surprise, she was at work in Terra Linda. I got the dates wrong and she was leaving on the 4th of June, not arriving on the 4th. I did what I thought was the best thing, I called my friends Bill and Irene Wood and told them...

May 25, 2004 - Day16

While on a four-seat plane, flying from Fort Myers to Tampa Bay, Florida, I encountered a woman named Ronicia Rome. Ronica is suffering from systemic lupus autoimmune disease and is traveling all over the country educating and aiding sick children while helping find support for her own children, who have been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.) Ronica asked me to explain the LP symbol on my hat as we waited for takeoff on the ridiculously small propeller-plane. "Thank you," she whispered, after I told her about our...

May 24, 2004 - Day 15: Darren and Gary

Darren and Gary, the new "Team LP", went to Sarasota News in Sarasota, Florida, where they were welcomed with open arms. Gary commented that "Darren has really added something special to the team! Having the Australian side of the business represented is great and Darren creates wonderful diversity on the road trip. " Gary is also quite excited to have tech support with him on the RV as technology has been a significant issue during our travels. Sarasota News is located on the corner in the "small and beautiful" town of Sarasota, which is...

Apr 28, 2004 - Florida Bound...

PHEW! That's all I can really say after that. In hindsight there was a LOT more to moving our things out of the house, getting it ready for the new tenants, and getting ourselves prepared for the trip than we had expected. I kid you not, we worked flat out for close to two weeks, right up until the minute we began our drive to Florida. Thankfully we had much assistance from Ken (Kim's dad), Anne, and John (Oliver's mum and her husband). They all really were life savers as there is no way we could have done all that needed to be done on our...

Jan 1, 2004 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year Jan 1, 2004 Happy New Year from the Happy Traveler RV Park, Tampa, Florida. We just moved down here from Sumter Oaks SKP park in Bushnell, Florida to be closer to Bush Gardens where Len has taken a job. He's been driving down on work days and the mileage is making a joke of the income he's making. More on that in a minute. We have been sightseeing all around the area, visiting orange orchards, the beach areas and state parks, and more. We even had a National Cemetery just down the road from Sumter Oaks which we find...
