May 28, 2017 - Last days on the road

Last night was a corker! We went tho bed early because we wanted an early start today. Just settling down and suddenly the wind started blowing, trees whipping and motor home rocking. Frantically checking weather we found a severe wind warning had been given by the weather service until 3am. Wind gusts would be up to 50 mph so we put the slides in and battened down the hatches for the night. No apparent damage in daylight but an unsettled night. This morning we are heading West toward Albuquerqe and it is a chilly morning. Temperature is 58...

May 27, 2017 - Fly over states

We've been on the road a few days now and the states start to run together. We left Alabama, passed through Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and now we are in New Mexico. All the states have their own beauty but we have mainly seen the rest stops and gas stations. As we roll along the scenery has changed from verdant green woods to the plains and most recently buttes and mesas in the distance. Curious today, I looked up the derivative of the word butte (boredom had set in) and found out it came from French meaning small...

May 24, 2017 - On the road again

This is the beginning of the journal chronicling Carol and my summer 2017 trip to Utah. As we pick up here Carol has now been retired a year and purchased a new motor home to replace the one we traveled in last year which was dubbed The Titanic. This new and beautiful one has been christened The Divine Peggy Q after Carol's much loved and recently passed aunt. Named after such a special person should make this motor home a Star on the road. We departed Sunday and had a good first day traveling with our final stop for the night at a rest...

Jan 16, 2017 - Super Show

We've gone to the Tampa RV Super Show every time we have been in Florida for the winter. Obviously we think it's one of the best; that's why we keep coming back. There are always many new RV's to examine, but so far we've always decided that none were better for us than what we already own. Hopefully, that will be true this year as well. For me the draw for this show is all the gizmos and gadgets that are also on display and for sale. You would think by now we would have everything we need and we do, but there always seems to be a clever...

Sep 24, 2016 - Home again

Our trip home started with a bang and ended with a whimper. The weather was deteriorating in Panguitch, colder, strong winds, etc. so we headed out in less than ideal weather conditions. The first day out we left Utah with a different route than when we arrived in Utah three months previously. We headed to Arizona and passed over some steep areas near the north rim of the Grand Canyon. As we headed down to our great surprise and delight we saw ahead some red cliffs merging into mauve and lavender...we had reached the Vermilion Cliffs. As we...

Jan 1, 2016 - Outback Bowl

After a rollicking New Years' Eve at the RV Park in Ruskin, FL, we decided to treat ourselves to another new experience to start off 2016. Never having been to a New Year's Day Bowl game, we decided to go to the Outback Bowl in Tampa to see Jo's Tennessee Volunteers vs. Northwestern. The drive in through Tampa was easy and traffic-free because of the holiday, and we found a great place to park which saved us $15. Bonus! The event was held at Buccaneer Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the stadium was filled to capacity. I am...

Jun 21, 2015 - An update of our life!!

Where do I start? With an apology of course!!! I am so sorry for leaving you all in the lurch (thanks for the many emails of concern for us). The reason I stopped doing the blog was 2-fold. No. 1 this past year when we were in Africa, we spent 3 weeks on safari in Kruger and 2 weeks in Botswana/Zimbabwe. 5 weeks in the bush is no good for updating a blog. The internet was so sporadic and even nonexistent in so many places that I just GAVE UP!! No 2 - I figured that most of you are friends of mine on Facebook which I do update when anything...

Living our RV Dream!

Apr 13, 2015 - Where The Devil Are You Now?

A friend asked that this past week and we realized that we haven’t done a post in several months. Well the bad news is that we are still in Tampa!!! As most of you know, we come here for service and this year we wanted to do a couple of modifications – we added some LED lights to the awning (all the new coaches use these lights extensively for ambience) and have some shelves built in the closet. Seems simple enough but this place is just so busy and you have to get into the queue for the various departments. In addition we hear they are...

Cat Nap Inn 2015

Mar 27, 2015 - Tampa, FL

We got into Tampa March 27th. The Urgent Care had given me a referral for a foot doctor in Tampa. I got lucky and even though we had to drive about 30 miles, he was able to see me Friday. He put a removable boot on me and I was off and running. Well...not exactly..LOL. I was still shakey on the crutches. Actually I was downright dangerous!! We were staying at a great Elks Lodge in Tampa, and they gave me a wheelchair to use, so my fellow WINS pushed my ???? everywhere. Our first stop was the Tampa Zoo. Great zoo and a lot of animals I had...

Hello Everyone, Today we attended the 2015 Alaska RV Tour Rally in sunny warm Tampa, FL at Lazydays RV Campground! While there we met up with Spike, Lindy, Roger and Theresa and all of our tour friends from last years Alaska Tour! Each year the tour meets in Florida to rekindle the lifelong friendships made on the Alaska tour and always is a fun time! We not only were treated to a live band with dancing and a Magician, but we also found time to go to Plant City for some fresh Strawberries, and then to a local Winery for a tour! Can't wait...

Jan 28, 2015 - Off to Orlando

We stayed at the Mac Dill Air Force base in Tampa for several days. It was sunny, yet cold to us. We met two nice couples and enjoyed our visits with them. We were able to see my children's father, Nick, and his wife Cindy. He has been very ill, but seems to be doing much better lately. We also saw a long ago friend of Den's; from his days on a cruise ship. It had been 33 yrs since Steve and Den had seen each other, but the memories were fun to hear about. Nicole said we HAD to go to John's Pass, specifically The Hut. She was right, just...

Jan 23, 2015 - Easy Truck Camper Modifications

Chances are, no matter how nice your camper is, there's something about it you'll want to change or improve on. Over the years, we've made some modifications or additions to make life a little more comfortable, safe, and/or convenient. These changes are scattered throughout the hundreds of journal entries, but I figured it was time to put them all in one place, to make it easier for curious web researchers to find. I call these "easy" modifications for one of two reasons; 1. It took very little, if any technical skill to do them, or 2. I...
