Feb 6, 2014 - Weeki Wachi Springs Mermaid Show

Hello Everyone, Today while traveling North up the Florida Gulf Coast, we stopped in Spring Hill to see the Weeki Wachi Springs Mermaid Show! What a great underwater show which takes place in an actual river (72F) - not a heated pool! The Mermaid show last about an hour, and the actors have to practice at least 3 months to learn how to breath thru the air tubes, and then all the acrobatic moves required for each part! Afterwards, we took in the Animal Show, and then a nice boat ride down the river. During the boat ride we came across 2...

Mar 1, 2010 - Day 19 - Monday

We packed up the car for our trip to Fort Myers. We had lunch with Larry and Lynnie at Pancho's Villa in San Antonio, FL. Lynnie was in tears when we parted, but again said how grateful she was that we were there when her mom died since it really helped her to get through the shock of it all. Hopefully, they will find someone to take care of the animals and come to Fort Myers for a couple of days away from it all. We arrived in Fort Myers around 3:30 p.m., went to the realtor to get the keys and unloaded the car. No sooner did we get...

Feb 28, 2010 - Day 18 - Sunday

Beautiful, sunny day with blue skies and no clouds. Temp is going up to 62 degrees today. We drove to Inverness to have lunch at Applebee's with my Aunt Maddy and her husband, Gordon. Came home and put on shorts and a short-sleeved shirt to sit in the sun on the lanai and hopefully get some color on my white skin. Larry is making his famous ribs and baked beans for us tonight. Their friends, Barb and John, are going to join us for the evening. We had a fun time with everyone and called it a night.

Feb 27, 2010 - Day 17 - Saturday

Today is rainy, but the rain stopped around noon and the skies remained overcast for the day. I went to Lynnie's hairdresser and got a haircut. Larry's friend was putting on Italian Night at his local Elks Club and he bought tickets for us to attend. We had dinner and danced to a wedding-singer-type guy. We arrived at 6 p.m. and left at 9 p.m. - right after the 50-50 raffle was held - none of us won anything. The woman who cleans their house drove us to the club and returned to bring us home - no drinking and driving! During the Elks Club...

Feb 26, 2010 - Day 16 - Friday

Today, Lynnie and Larry went to the funeral home. Marge was cremated and in their family, they have no service or memorial. Several of Lynnie's friends will come over tonight. They normally have hot dogs every Friday night at Larry and Lynnie's house, so they decided to keep up the practice and come over for dinner. We'll fix a martini for Marge (her favorite drink) and put it at her chair at the table and drink a toast to Marge's memory.

Feb 25, 2010 - Day 15 - Thursday

Today, Lynnie was told that Marge had zero chance of survival, so she made the decision to remove the ventilator. Marge died at 1:30 p.m. We just tried to help Lynnie get through the day, with rememberances of Marge's life. Lynnie made some phone calls and sent some e-mail messages telling people about Marge's death. She had to find some papers necessary for the funeral home and take care of some other paper matters. Larry put some steaks on the grill, we had dinner and called it a night.

Feb 24, 2010 - Day 14 - Wednesday

We left Savannah this morning at 11:45 a.m. and drove to Lynnie and Larry's house in Spring Hill, Florida, arriving there around 5 p.m. When we walked into the house, Lynnie told us that her mom had been taken to the hospital this morning after she called 911. She said Marge wasn't feeling well on Monday and they thought it might be the flu. She was better on Tuesday, but on Wednesday morning, Lynnie found her delirious with a distended abdomen. The doctors diagnosed her with a blocked bowel and said that there was a zero chance of her...

Jun 7, 2008 - on the road with the baby

Reminder to self…. Don’t wait until the temperature gets in the mid 90’s to begin getting ready to go on an extended trip. We started loading “the baby” on Wednesday and are now on the road. YIPPEE!!!! While Cindy was closing out the school year, Skip was battling the heat. It sure is tough trying to figure out what to take when you have limited storage space. Cindy wanted to bring her entire wardrobe, summer and winter. Skip said that if the weather gets cold that we will head farther south. Cindy was having none of it as we hope to be in...

May 9, 2007 - Northward Ho!

This has not been our season for motor trips. After all of the trials and tribulations during the first part of our trip to Arizona in March, we couldn't believe that more problems were coming our way! We left Travelers Rest Resort, our winter home, on Saturday, May 5, for home — via Kentucky and the Life on Wheels Conference in Bowling Green. Our plan was to get to Bowling Green by Monday night, stay in the KOA for the night, take the RV to Camping World on Tuesday to have the Dometic Refrigerator recall taken care of, and then spend...

Apr 24, 2007 - Bushnell, FL

The first drive after staying put for a long time is again exciting and a little bit scary until I get used to being behind the wheel of a big vehicle with a car attached. I had to double check the car hookup to make sure I remembered how to do it and I had to spend a couple of minutes going over everything mentally after I thought I had it all ready to start driving. I didn't forget anything so off I went! There was a big fire the week before that closed down I-75 (Alligator Alley) that goes across the state and I wondered if I was going...

Mar 17, 2007 - Ralph's Travel Park

Ralph's Travel Park This was just a 1 night stop over to our main trip, actually Dorothy messed up when making our reservation, so we only stayed 1 night. That ended up being a good thing. This was mainly a retirement type park, it was clean but did not offer a lot for the grandkids to do. Also, this is where old RV's go to live out the remainder of their life. They added roof's and screen enclosures to make a retirement home for someone.

Mar 2, 2007 - On the Road

Preface - On March 11 the Tucson, Arizona Life on Wheels Conference begins, and Linda is scheduled as one of the workshop presenters. When we began making plans for the trip we decided not to take our RV, but to drive a car instead. Eddie wanted to do as much biking as possible, following the Adventure Cycling route across the southern United States, with Linda driving the "support van." For the trip we bought a used GMC Savana van from someone we knew. Unfortunately, it has turned out not to have been a good idea. We had trouble from the...
