Feb 17, 2013 - from heaven to..........

We reluctantly packed up to move on from New Orleans this morning although we both feel there is so much more to do and see here. The RV park is located right beside the canal between Lake Ponchartrain and the Mississippi River. This morning we watched as a huge barge slid past making its way through the locks to the river. There were fellow campers fishing off our little dock and we could have paddled our kayak right out the canal to the lake just a couple of blocks away. Unfortunately it was about 7C so we decided that would be for our...

May 13, 2012 - Topsail Hill Preserve

Sunday morning we hitched up and bid our farewells to St George Isalnd until next time. We had a great time! We turned our rig west and traveled about 100 miles to Santa Rosa Beach and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park near Destin, FL. Our travel day was uneventful.....just the way we like them! We checked in and got settle in our site. I must say the campground at Topsail is one of the nicest and best maintained of any campground we have stayed in......but.....our site was so narrow we could hardly get out of the truck. There was a tree...

SILVER TRAILS

Feb 21, 2012 - Last day at Top Sail

Feb 21, 2012 Last day at Top Sail Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, United States We leave tomorrow for a small rv park about 90 miles east on the gulf. The 4 days the Mechesney's spent with us were wonderful, lots of laughter (and wine), and excursions in this area. But the best times were when we were awed by the gulf. As I said before, whitest sand I've ever seen. And an emerald hue to the ocean. Very striking. I don't think any of our photos can do it justice. Before I go on I must say that Top Sail State Park is a must for anyone in this...

Feb 15, 2012 - Mechesneys arrive

Feb 15, 2012 - Mechesneys arrive Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, United States Our good friends, Hugh and Carol, arrived today from visiting daughter, Emily and boyfriend David Jones. They met up with them in Fort Pierce, north of Miami. It was one of those "meet the bf's Mom" trips. Great to see them drive up. We traveled with them to Puerto Rico last March (it was much warmer there and the ocean was of a swimable temp). 4 people in the rondo is a bit tight but very workable. (Hint to any future visitors). Waited around for the RV fix-it guy...

Feb 14, 2012 - Valentine's Day

Feb 14, 2012 Happy Valentine’s Day Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, United States So we were looking forward to a leisurely day of doing not much of anything – maybe a bike ride to the beach and exploring the campground. Also planned mundane tasks of laundry, and cleaning up the camper as we anticipate guests in the next couple of days. Woke up to rain. No big deal we were warm, dry and snug inside the camper. That is until I stepped in a puddle of water as I made my toast. Further investigation and we found that our water heater was leaking. I...

Feb 4, 2012 - Grayton Beach State Park

We have been camping at Grayton Beach State Park since Tuesday. The day after we arrived, the rain moved in. Looking out of our windows at the bleak skies, we were disappointed. We were eager to see the beach. Situated on Santa Rosa Island, the coastline here is known for its pristine, white shores. We used to call rain “liquid sunshine” when we camped with our young sons years ago. We were often in tents that tended to drip from condensation during inclement weather, and later in our pop-up trailer, water would pool on the perimeter of the...

Oct 20, 2011 - Finally back in Florida

We are finally back in Florida. Staying at Topsail Hill Preserve at Santa Rosa Beach. Beautiful park and 50% off for FL seniors. All sites are paved, full hook-ups, and they even have cable. They also have a tram that runs every 2 hours out to the beach. It is only .7 of a mile so I might walk out this afternoon. Still haven't had any stone crab, which I am dying for, so we are going to a seafood restaurant tonight.

Oct 16, 2011 - Carabelle, FL

We have had a wonderful 3 days staying in Carabelle and visiting the surrounding area. We had fabulous meals at some of the many local seafood restaurants and walked around the quaint town of Apalachicola. We visited St. George Island and walked on the beach. We also had the pleasure of seeing a friend we haven't seen in many years, Jim Esner. We've had a good time but I think what I'll remember the most is seeing the Black Bear in the rural residential neighborhood of Carabelle. Tomorrow we travel to Ocala, FL.

Oct 13, 2011 - Grayton Beach State Park

We are staying in the Grayton Beach State Park. Although the campground does not have camping on the ocean or a view of the ocean, the beautiful beach is only a short distance away. If you've ever heard of Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as "Dr. Beach", he annually ranks the top 20 beaches in America. In 1994 he ranked Grayton Beach at number one. It's beautiful!

Apr 8, 2011 - Destin, FL

From our campground in Grayton Beach State Park we took a day trip to Destin. It was extremely breezy. We were the only ones dining on the open air deck. The harbor cruise was wonderful, but still cool & windy. I'm glad Miss Shirley remembered to pack my hooded jacket!

Izzy's Road Trip

Dec 6, 2010 - Old Town, FL to Santa Rosa Beach, FL

Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau........ As you may note, we are continuing to head westward. I am so happy. We will soon be with my family to celebrate the moment. Our trip over to Santa Rosa was nice - I love the views I see and realize that those living there are blessed as well - although, all of the time. The park we found was Top Sail Hill Preserve (aka Gregory E. Moore RV Resort). The area was so woodsy and pretty. We could pick our site once we saw the area we were to park in. With all the trees above our RV, we were pleased our...

Girl on the Road

Mar 14, 2010 - Beach Day

Well the plan was good, along with 3 other couples from the plantation, we were headed for Santa Rosa Beach in Florida, about a 1 1/2 hours away. The section of beach we planned to visit and enjoy in 65+ degree day with full sun is part of a National Shoreline and left in a all natural state. The beaches in this area have some of the whitest find sand found anywhere. In fact one of friends found a beach in Hawaii that had the white sand imported. With sunglasses, chairs, and enough finger food to feed to US Navy we headed east. Everything...
