Aug 25, 2017 - HOME.

Not much to say...short trip home down I-75. We got in by 3 PM, parked the RV at the condo and started to unload the food from the refrigerator. Just to let you know how things work here in Punta Gorda Isles...you have to have a PERMIT to bring your motorhome to your house, but it's free and you can get it online, so we applied a day or two ahead of time, received it and came on in. Right now, the snowbirds aren't here, so our condos are about half empty and there is plenty of empty space in the parking lots. So, we can come here and pack...

Jun 26, 2017 - Introduction

We actually started this trip on June 26, 2017. I'm just now entering the first post. Introduction: We’re off for our first long trip in our new (used) 2016 Fleetwood Bounder, gas motor home. For those of you who don’t know us well enough, we’re experienced campers, previously with our Rockwood Travel Trailer and before that traveling with our boat off and on for 25 years. So the motor home part is new to us, but the sleeping and cooking away from home, while visiting ports, towns, cities, campgrounds, and the gypsy life are not new...

Apr 20, 2017 - Prairie Creek Redux

Long time no rain. hot day and no desire to fight big waves. Debby had never been here so we went again with only 2 cars. This is a place for only a few cars and the launch is very hard. It is even moreso now because of no rain. While the creek is deep, there is very little space to get into the boat before the dropoff. During the put in, Minda tipped her boat. During the put out, Joan got waist deep into water, and then I did the same. Hard to get footing in the water - I was lucky not to fall in all the way! Another beautiful creek and...

Mar 30, 2017 - Shell Creek Paddle

Shell Creek is a beloved place to paddle. I used to think it was called Shell Creek because of all the turtles we would see along the way. But where the banks are high, they are full of shells making us wonder if we went through the middle of an Indian mound where they would cast away the shells from their meals. Still, the creek and its finds are beautiful and special. We visit here more than once a season and we usually get a big crowd of paddlers.

Feb 16, 2017 - Prairie Creek

We haven't had much rain but this creek is deep. The problem is that there is little space between the shore and the drop off to use to get into the kayak and then back out again. We were successful today, though. This is another scenic creek with many cypress trees, spanish moss, and epiphytes making it look very old Florida. Limpkin birds are usually hard to find, but we saw one out in the open on this creek!

Dec 15, 2016 - Night out at Punta Gorda

A big group of us went up to Punta Gorda to have dinner at Laishley's Crab House then take a boat ride from the pier through the canals at Punta Gorda Isles to see the Christmas lights on boats and houses. Most things on the menu were fish items, of course, but I found a shrimp pesto dish that I enjoyed. It took about an hour and a half to have the meal there, but the timing was great. We drove over to Fisherman's Village and got in line while Paula got our tickets. Before long, we boarded the boat and off we went! I stayed downstairs,...

Nov 19, 2016 - Pickleball Tournament Weekend

What a beautiful and perfect day to be outside enjoying watching people play pickleball on 14 courts! The temperature was in the high 70s and only started getting chilly when the clouds covered the sun. Eight women from Carefree participated in this informal tournament on Saturday which was a fundraiser for the local hospice. I bought raffle tickets but didn't win! A cold front is passing through on Sunday so it was quite chilly in the morning but really nice for play in the afternoon. This day is for mixed doubles. Kay played in the...

Nov 10, 2016 - First Kayak Adventure of the Season

12 of us at Carefree gathered at 8 AM with colorful kayaks and went up the road just a bit to kayak on Alligator Creek that has no alligators. The launch site is at a little park and the put in is very easy. We kayaked past a populated area including a Home Depot store at the beginning of the trip and saw cormorants and ospreys. I was pleasantly surprised that I snapped a photo of an osprey trying to land to eat his catch (a mouse?) on a branch where a cormorant was perched. It quickly flew away and I think the picture is depicting when it...

Sep 23, 2016 - Left Punta Gorda again

Same stuff, left in the motor home, stayed in Bushnell, stayed in Perry, then went to Blue Water Resort in Tennessee. I wasn't really doing a trip blog, just trying to display my pictures and Picasa doesn't work work any more. Then I ended up with a lot of pictures on this trip, so this is a ahort trip blog.

May 8, 2016 - Caloosa Get Together

We had a great long weekend with our Winnebago Club in Punta Gorda, Fl. As you can probably tell from the pics, this was another endless eating opportunity with just enough time to drink a couple toddies and play crazy games to celebrate the Kentucky Derby. This has been a standing tradition with the club and we have it down to a fine art. Jean and I did well betting on the actual race. We each picked the top three horses, and pocketed a whopping $14. We didn't do so well on the putt putt golf even tho I got 2 holes in one's. My team did...

Mar 14, 2016 - Mathematical Constant

March 14 was Pie r square day and we had to go to a geocaching event in Punta Gorda , Florida . What is Pie r square you say???? It is not what pie you like to eat, you remember back when you were in high school and you wondered why you need to learn how to figure the area of a circle. You just did not think that on March 14 2016 you would need all that learning, but it did help us out today at the event. Before the event we wanted to find a few caches in the Punta Gorda area and that was what we did for a few hours before going to the sun...
