Apr 18, 2012 - Departure from Punta Gorda, Florida

Departing from Punta Gorda was a bit of a challenge with the sale of our home while in the midst of preparing for this trip. Additionally, John was tied up with a number of last minute work related details. We actually moved aboard the Silver Manatee on April 1st. The subsequent 2 weeks were filled with the closing of our home, moving everything into storage and last minute preparatory details for our land cruise. We came to realize that due to Spring Break we could not stay in one location during this period, but needed to move 4 times!...

Mar 25, 2012 - Rain Now And Rain Then

We went up to Punta Gorda to do some geocaching in the area after we has stopped at KFC for our Sunday Chicken eating. After that good meal we went on down the road to see the rain clouds coming in from the Gulf. We did a few caches and then the rain came down in buckets. We drove on home to Cape Coral to get out of the rain, just about thirty miles away and we don't have any rain. I shall cut the grass after Norma gets done picking weeks and sand spurs out of the yard. It's nice to be able to get out to do some yard before summer times...

Feb 12, 2012 - Out For The Afternoon

We drove up to Punta Gorda for the afternoon of geocaching after eating our Sunday afternoon diner at KFC. After all that eating we got out of the truck and had a nice walk on the bridge. There was about four caches out on the bridge, from one end to the other. We got to see the boater out on the water, birds and got to walk in the florida sun shine. We enjoy walking the streets down main street, the back streets and out of the way places the geocaching may take us. You get to stop at icecream shops along the way to the cache and you get to...

Dec 22, 2011 - Prairie Creek

I didn't know there were so many creeks around here! While I'm afraid these entries will all start to look alike, I still find things to take pictures of and share with you all. Today we saw turtles, alligators, a hawk, herons, egrets, and cool cypress trees. I have a sore shoulder and upper arm and almost didn't paddle myself back to our start, since Carla offered to tow me in! I found out my paddles are good for pushing back the water but they are much too heavy! Do you know how much new paddles cost? unbelievable!

Dec 8, 2011 - Second trip to Shell Creek

Our Thursday expedition took us back up to Shell Creek, but this time we went left instead of right. We went past some houses again with pontoon boats moored up, but then saw some great birds and turtles. The creek in this direction is wider and more open, which makes sense because it flows towards the gulf this way. Joan is very knowledgable with the birds and butterflies and that's how I learned that I saw a black glossy Ibis and that they are rare. Queen butterflies are the mock Monarchs of the south. Viceroy butterflies are mock...

Oct 23, 2011 - GEOCACHING

We went geocaching today (sunday) after eating chicken at KFC in Punta Gorda, Florida. We went out to a pier on the bay and looked around for a few minutes, could not locate the container. We used a GPS unit to get within about 10 feet of the hidden container, but could not find it. Then reading the hint for the cache " KNOTS LANDING PIER", no name on the pier!!!!! MAYBE IT IS------- !!! Yes it was a wooden knot in the handrail, the small container with a log sheet was in the knot. We had fun running around town going to places that we...

Mar 27, 2011 - It's all relative

Well we made it to the west coast of Florida yesterday. Great half price camping ($17.50) with our Passport America membership. It cost us $49. We are 3 weeks in and we have saved $57.50!! Had another wonderful evening with Shirley's cousin Don and his great and lovely wife Nancy. They are renting for 2 months in nearby North Port. They are leaving Tuesday to go back to the Elmira area (Horseheads Debby). Don cooked steaks, fish and veggie burgers on the grill and he is a master. We see these folks so sporadically and I am not sure why. We...

Mar 26, 2011 - Heading west

We broke up camp and headed west back through Palm Beach County. Miss Shirley had a hankerin' for ice cream as we were traveling through the sugar cane fields. Uncle Joe's Fish Camp did not have any so we all piled back in "the rig" and kept heading west towards the gulf coast.

Feb 26, 2011 - PUNTA GORDA AREA

We went up to Punta Gorda , Florida for some geocaching over the weekend. We like the caching up in this area because of the caches being on the bay side and a lot of caches our out on the piers. We have fun looking around the area for caches, some in trees, some on the ground and some "UNDER THE BOARDWALK" remember that song? I don't believe they were thinking about this boardwalk. Pilot Searcher you would be proud of Pair-A-Doxes going under that boardwalk like a dog after a rabbit.

Oct 6, 2010 - Geocaching In Punta Gorda

Norma and I wanted to go out in this nice fall weather for a walk and treasure hunt. I had gone to the dentist today and had two surgical extraction at a cost of $ 500.00. I needed to get outside for a walk in the woods and to look at mother nature before my blood pressure hit the roof. We went up to Punta Gorda,Florida for some Geocaching. We went to Bisset Shelter to look for the cache, we did not found the cache. We found a real old Indian peace pipe, most likely from the Indian mounds in the park. Take a real close look at the peace...
