Jul 14, 2011 - Settling Down

JoAnn continues to progress on getting our place livable; the kitchen is usable and considering that it is almost the size of our trailer that is saying a lot. Doug has had couple of better days mainly because JoAnn is monitoring the clock and staying on his case about taking pills. It is still very hot here in the Panhandle and we are extremely jealous of our friends in Colorado right now. We would like to be in the Four Corners area! If Fillmore could figure out how, he would just stick his rear end out the back door when necessary to do...

Jul 10, 2011 - Visiting Great Grandson Stetson

On Friday, Susie and JoAnn piled into the car and were off to Birmingham to visit great grandson Stetson. He is doing well and made it out of the natal unit to his real home early in the week. Susie was anxious to see and hold him and took full advantage as did JoAnn. Momma and Papa are beside themselves and doting on the child where-possible. Stetson is doing very well. He is now at home, alert and active yet his original due date is still a month off. He is gaining weight and will have Zeb and Christy well trained way ahead of schedule....

Jul 7, 2011 - Back To Prosperity

JoAnn got the kitchen in order in our park model and decided to pack up and go back to Prosperity for a few days. She and Susie are going to Birmingham tomorrow to see great grandson Stetson. Stetson got home last weekend and Susie has especially been chomping at the bit to see him up close and personal. Doug and Fillmore will hold down the trailer in Prosperity. David will go off tent camping and then on Monday we plan to carry some more stuff back to the beach and stay there a while. There is a lot for us to do there and JoAnn won't be...

Jul 1, 2011 - Off To Panyma Fer The Fourth

Doug was out of it today. That's out of it more than usual. He just didn't want to stay awake. Thursday afternoon Doug conned David into cooking up his famous meatloaf which is one of Doug's favorite meals. David also added a bodacious potato caserrole and made a top flight meal. JoAnn added fresh corn pudding and Susie brought triple chocolate ice cream from Publix. What a repast! We got word that our "big park model" is unrented as of today so we have decided to drive to PCB for the weekend. Of course we chose to do this on the hottest...

Jun 26, 2011 - Other Profundities and Observities

This morning we drove to Dothan, AL for the Unity Service there. We have known the minister Glenda, for some time and she was excited to see us and we heard a good message. It was also good to get out of the cabin for a while. We stopped at Dobbs Barbeque for lunner. That place has been around for years and was full of folks for Sunday dinner. Check out pictures of Susanne riding a camel on the beach in Morocco. Susanne's Blog More profundities and observities. What do you say to a person with a terminal illness? That's kind of a complex...

Jun 23, 2011 - Some Thoughts on Cancer Diagnosis

We finally got rain today. We had a big thunderboomer come through late this morning and it hung around in a slow steady downfall this afternoon. Badly needed relief for the locals and hope it isn't too little too late. The Hsopice Nurse came by for her weekly check on Doug. His pain levels are low but he is still fighting the woozieness of the pain killers. Received two separate messages today from long time friends who just received the Big Bad Cancer Diagnosis in the last couple of days. Our hearts go out to them for the fear and shock...

Jun 22, 2011 - Oncologist Apppointment

Early this afternoon we drove to Panama City for our respective oncologist appointments. JoAnn was a routine checkover re-establishing that MD as her oncologist. With Doug, he reported that the most recent PSA was still down around 100 points from its old high. He assumed as did JoAnn that it was a result of the radiation last month in Tucson; that they had hit a flare where the cancer was most active which caused the good result. Doug's comment was do it again, but apparently that is not a viable option. There is however a new medicine out...

Jun 21, 2011 - Hazy Daze

The heat stays on and on and on. Today we decided it was again too hot to do anything but decided to drive to Defuniak Springs just to get out of the four walls of the trailer. We went back to our little hole in the wall diner that was filled as we waked in. How does any restaurant anywhere be open for four hours a day five days a week and stay in business? There were over 23 people when we got there and $9.50 was the top price on the menu. Maybe this is a summer schedule? Next we did the Wally World thing. Doug is finally getting the hang...

Jun 19, 2011 - Ed and Marilyn's Fire

Our friends Ed and Marilyn had quite a day today. They were just outside of St Joesph MO when Ed noticed that their 5er was afire. He managed to get the truck unhooked and the propane tanks on the ground; they saved two cell phones and a computer, (without a charging cord) and that was the extent of it. Our hats are off to them that they could get the truck unhitched but mostly that THEY got out of there! Jun 15, 2011 - More With Mark

Tuesday morning we were off to the Defuniak Springs Hotel to meet with Stu and Froggi Donna for lunch. They were on route from LA to TN an wanted to get together. We had never met Stu and were glad to do so. Somehow the conversation got around to the topic of passing messages from recently departed folks to their friends and relatives still on this plane. Froggi had posted a poem several years ago about one such experience she had: do have one memory that I didn't put into my ride journal but I will never forget the experience. All during...

Jun 13, 2011 - Too Cool To Fool

Stetson had a great first weekend of existence. When he was born, he was not put on a venilator but given a CPAP machine just like his great grandfathers. By Saturday evening he was off of that had breathing on his own. A great step forward. Both Zeb and Christy have been able to hold him. He was still attached to his monitors when Christy held him and the instruments immediately pointed to the normal range. Stetson had found his mommy. We picked up Mark at the airport yesterday and went to Pier Park for lunner. While at the airport Doug...

Jun 11, 2011 - First Great Grandson

Stetson Davis Griffin our first great grandson joined us on the planet this morning. He is several weeks early and will spend time in a neo natal unit until he is able to go home to be with his family. Mama Christy is recovering. It has been an exciting time for our family and we are so thankful that we have been together to support each other. JoAnn spent the day cleaning and puttering around our trailer as well as in the big house. Doug spent most of his time reading and Fillmore spent all of his time sleeping. Tomorrow we are off to...
