Oct 11, 2015 - Sunday Port Canaveral

This is the big day, we set sail today for our family cruise. Chip got up this morning and attended on of the local Lutheran Church’s while the rest of us sinners stayed back at the motorhome to get around. The girls hit the bathhouse here in the campground while Candy and I watched the fishermen launch their boats at the beautiful boat launch next to the campground. We saw guys with kayak’s go out and probably some of the biggest boats that can be pulled with a pickup put in. They were lined up waiting to get to the ramps, there were 6...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 10, 2015 - Saturday Port Canaveral

Something I didn’t think about was getting all 6 of us into the truck to go anywhere, oops. So Chip and I went down to the local car rental place and got a car for one day so we all could get around. After that we loaded everyone up and head for Christmas Florida. We were going to the Airboat ride at Midway for an hour trip into the marsh area. This place was way out in the marsh land and they had all kinds of animals in the building you checked in at. Had Pork Chop the pig laying around, he never did move, just grunted at people. They had...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 9, 2015 - Friday Port Canaveral

It is always a great day when you wake up for one, but to look out the window and see the sun shining. Here we are parked in the Jetty Park and Campground located in the Port Canaveral complex. This is interesting because the Port owns and operates all the businesses here including the campground. They also have a picnic area on the channel a person can get a day pass to picnic, fish, or watch the ships go in and out the channel. Our day started out with us going to the park, which is right behind where we are parked. We walked down to...

2015 Family Cruise

Oct 8, 2015 - Thursday Port Canaveral

We did get an early start at 8:30 am for the final leg of this journey. We will be in Jetty Park Cape Canaveral this afternoon. It is another great day for a drive, sun is shining, which we sure can tell driving east into it. I heard this morning that I-95 is open the entire way now. That is good because we may take that route home, maybe. Our trip was very uneventful to Port Canaveral. We did take the direct route thru Jacksonville which was probably the best way. It was a good run, even with the construction, didn’t need to slow down. We...

2015 Family Cruise

Mar 27, 2015 - Disney Dream 1st day

Laura and the kids arrived Thursday afternoon (Andy was already here for a conference). Friday morning we packed up the Suburban and headed to Port Canaveral to meet Jim and family and Richard's sister, Shelby. It was her first cruise and she had a ball! Arriving at the port, the porter told us to have our passports ready. It was at that moment I realized I had not brought them. So Richard and I raced back to our house, got them and were back to the ship with an hour to spare. Thank you Lord for early check-in and no policemen on I-95. But...

Feb 28, 2015 - from the sea

Before we left this area we stopped at the Wild Ocean market to buy some local seafood. They sold many varieties of fresh shrimp as well as other flat fish. As we asked the dumb questions a landlubber asks, the clerk encouraged us to take the tour of their facility in Port Canaveral to learn more about the fish business, shrimp in particular. It was a good tour to take on a cool, rainy day and prevented us from dwelling on the fact that we had looked forward to a final bike ride, round of golf, or some other outdoor activity. But not in the...

Jan 13, 2014 - Jetty Park - Port Canaveral, FL

Hello Everyone, Well, today we continued our travels further up the Florida east coast to Jetty Park in Port Canaveral, about 1 hour south of Daytona. We picked this campground because its right on the ocean, and on a long Canal that the Cruise lines use to dock their ships in Port Canaveral. Then, almost every night around 5PM, the huge Cruise ships leave port and sail past the campground on their way out into the ocean! All the campers get their chairs and watch and wave! Being such a spectacular sight, I took to the air with my DJI...

Sep 8, 2013 - Storing the Rig for a Week!

Shortly after we booked our cruise, Brad researched parking for our RV on the internet. He found Park Port Canaveral by Radisson to be the most economical and very close to Port Canaveral. We had two concerns: the refrigerator and my plant. We asked the rvusa.com forum about the refrigerator and were assured that it would run for a week on propane as long as everything was unplugged so that there would be no drain on the coach battery which is needed to turn the fridge on & off so it could use the propane to stay cold. Brad located the...

Jan 26, 2013 - Cruise Critters

One of the expected highlights of a cruise, from what we've been told, is the daily "Towel Critter" on your bed when you return from dinner. We had great fun checking these critters out ... and anticipated a new one every evening. Our Cabin Steward, Apollo, did an excellent job designing these, as well as providing extremely friendly and high quality service. Remember my earlier note of how rich we need to consider ourselves??? ... I suspect there are a few residents of Roatan or Belize who may be lucky to have one towel to share for the...

Winter 2013

Jun 30, 2012 - Home again

Because we had early seating our time in the dining room was from 6:30 to 7:30. We decided to eat in Cabanas, the buffet restaurant instead and we could go later. We still had to be off the ship by 9:00. Everything went smoothly until Andy and Richard couldn't remember where they parked the car. Jim parked next to us, he remembered where, thought we had left and started off. So we had to meet in a McDonald's parking lot to say our final goodbyes. We had lunch with Andy and his family and dropped them at the airport. And we came home. What...

Jun 23, 2012 - Let the cruise begin!

Our Pilot was loaded with suitcases and people. We met Jim and family on 417 and it was on to Port Canaveral. The Fantasy is an awesome ship. Of course we had to have photos taken with Mickey before boarding. And the parents got their children registered for the Oceaneer Club. As we boarded the ship and walked into the Atrium, a crew member announced: "Welcome to the Walter Family" and the other crew members there clapped and cheered. By the time we finished lunch, the cabins were ready. Some of us had our luggage, some didn't but the...
