May 13, 2013 - Holt To Perry
Today we drove from Holt to Perry, a distance of 215 miles. This is our second stop in Florida, and our final destination is about 300 miles away. We are starting to take it very slow, after 2000 plus miles of being on the road, we need some rest and relaxation! We are staying at the Perry Elks, and we are camped on an area of grass that must be 5 acres, or so. Here are a few 'snaps' for you! Mike and Nancy

Apr 30, 2012 - First day on the road
We pulled out of Daytona Beach this morning after Penny's dentist appt. and started heading NW. We were about 30 miles from Perry, Fla when the piece of junk Chevy, I still say we should have bought a Ford, decides to act up and starts loosing power. I just spent $800.00 on the truck last month. Was able to get it to behave so we could get to a Advanced Auto parts and had them run a scan. #7 Injector is not getting enough electrical power. The 2005 Chevy diesels had a problem with this. So we go to the Chevy dealer and he wants to charge me...

Apr 13, 2012 - Elks Lodge Perry FL
The RV parking at the Elks was very nice, the Lodge itself was OK, did not find the people to be that friendly. We did find a wonderful Bar-B-Que place, Goodman's, they have three types of sauce - hot, mild and tame, some of the best we have found outside of Almans in Fredericksburg VA.

After a repair to the Jeep lights and some other minor maintenance, it was time to head west from Ocala on ALT 27 to Perry FL, which is about 2 hours from Ocala and an hour shy of Tallahassee. The reason for this stop is that Kyle is coaching the JV baseball team for Godby High School in Tallahassee, and they are playing Taylor County High School today which is conveniently located in...Perry FL. So instead of driving to Tally, setting up the bus, then driving an hour back to Perry, we figured we'd save 2 hours of Jeep gas and spend the...

Feb 28, 2012 - West Panhandle of Florida Beaches
Left Summerdale this morning around 8:50am. Drove down the west coast of Florida to see the beautiful beaches. Most of the day was heavy fog, so much for the beautiful beaches. But we did get to enjoy some of the views when the fog cleared out. Arrived at the Elks in Perry, GA. This Elks had a wonderful campground. Highly recommend it. They had water and electric hookup and a dump station near by for a donation of $15.00.

We had a relatively easy drive today, less than 250 miles. We fueled at Flying J and had lunch there too. Our waitress/server was the grumpiest person we've run into in a while. You'd think they'd figure out that uttering a few civil words to the customers would enhance their chances of getting a reasonable tip...not this lady...grumpy and mostly silent....had to ask for everything....more coffee, jelly for the toast, etc. etc. Oh well, maybe she was having a bad day. We stopped in Perry at the KOA; it rained on us for a little stretch...

May 21, 2010 - Travel to Perry FL
Today we decided not to take the coast because it would be too long a drive, so we went inland a little and traveled through the Apalachicola National Forest. Some of the time we traveled along rural roads with swampy water along the sides and Larry kept telling me to watch for Alligators. We saw a few patches of wildflowers along the roads, but not nearly as many as in Texas. We arrived at Perry Elks Lodge and by the time we were all set up, Sam & Carolyn showed up. We went into the lodge for dinner and stayed for the Karaoke. It was a...

May 16, 2010 - Staying at the Elks
Today we left Fort Myers on our way to see Angie and the kids for the next few days. As members of the Elks Club, we can stay at local Elk Lodges with RV hookups and their prices are quite a bit lower than a campground. We are staying at the Elks in Perry, FL - when we arrived we thought we were going to be here all alone and another camper finally pulled in. It is very quiet and dark but great for the price as we are only looking for a place to stay on our way to Angie's.

Dear Friends and Family, As we drove into Perry, we reminisced about our previous trip through that town in late November when we traveled to Mississippi to see family. Our RV engine died when we stopped for a red light. It just wouldn't start again. We called Good Sam Emergency Service and had to wait an hour and a half for the tow truck to arrive. In the meantime, the police decided our RV had to be moved off the street. They had a guy in a flatbed pull us backward into a parking area. Our ladder got hooked on the truck and broke off...

Continued east across Florida's panhandle along the gulf coast. The sand is so white it looks like snow, but they call it sugar sand. Stopped at the end of the Tyndall Air Force Base and dropped off a geo travel bug we had brought from Needles. The sun shined off and on today. We finally stopped in Perry at, yep, a Walmart Supercenter and parked right by a geo for the night.

Nov 30, 2009 - Welcome to the Gulf of Mexico!
We had a wonderful drive along the coast today! Took the scenic route from Panama City Beach to Perry.... it was distressing to see the damage that had occured during one of the storms... the erosion has brought the Gulf really close to HWY #98!!!! *)* Just past Mexico Beach almost all the houses have a For Sale sign.... maybe it's just like Bemidji where every summer all the places are for sale in hopes some tourist will fall for an inflated price! ha But this is not the area to have a permanent home!! (Neither is Bemidji with 45 degree...

Aug 2, 2009 - Perry KOA and home
Sunday morning and we are headed down 19, heading for home. I am including a couple of pics of the carvings from Biloxi, and a pic from the accident that happened two cars in front of us yesterday....an suv with 5 occupants spun out of control and went back and forth sliding all over US 10, and flipped over and slid some more....luckily, as RJ pointed out, there were guard rails, or it would have been much worse....we had seen three people helped out of the car before we left, but obviously they had somebody left in the car that they could...
