Oct 12, 2013 - RV trip down South

I left Saugerties on Monday, Oct 7th and went down the Thruway to 287 into New Jersey. I got off at an exit close to Aunt Ina and she met me for lunch. She told me of a grocery store I could park in and even asked permission for me! But, alas, as I entered the main driveway of the store, I could see that there was no aisle I would fit into and the only way for me to go was around the left side of the building. I had hoped to find out that it went all around the store so that I could either find a place in the back to park or come back out...

Feb 1, 2012 - Miami once more!

After a nice breakfast with Marily & Chic and others at Lea and Arlene's house, I hooked up and left Carefree to go to my other winter home south of Miami. The trip was uneventful but took over 3 hours. I went over Alligator Alley (I-75) instead of the Tamiami trail because I knew of construction occurring on that road. Even though my new home is the same length as Miss Daisy was, I took some time to fit into my site at Larry & Penny Thompson Campground because the living room slideout must be just a little wider than the other one was and...

Nov 26, 2009 - Happy Thanksgiving!

I baked a pumpkin pie and joined 27 others in the cabana at the campground for a big Thanksgiving feast! There was so much food and such a variety of traditional fare. I knew about 1/3 of the people there, but had a great time. Needless to say, I didn't need or want a supper that day!

Nov 15, 2009 - Thanksgiving party at Jeanne & Laurie's

Jeanne and Laurie will be in New York visiting Laurie's parents during Thanksgiving this year, so they decided to have it early at their house in Kendall and invite their closest friends. I am honored to be one of them. Laurie's sister and brother-in-law, Connie & Dan came down from Boynton Beach, but Gette had to work and Rosemary had to get her nephew from the airport so they couldn't join us from Palm Beach Gardens. But the party consisted of 15 people, some of whom didn't know everybody, which didn't make me feel so bad. Let's see if I...

Nov 13, 2009 - Home, Sweet Miami Home

The last leg took 5 hours and I got to the campground just before the office closed at 5 PM. I left the state park so late because I walked the trail to find the Lake, as you saw I did. So, those pictures were taken this morning, not yesterday! Fooled you! The park has a peacock roaming around this year. It escaped from his section of the zoo and goes where he pleases now. I wonder how long he will stay here, given that the winter campers with dogs will be arriving soon! When I got parked, I packed a bag and went to Jeannie and Laurie's...

Mar 9, 2009 - Iguanas in the park!

A couple of years ago, Mary & Harold saw a huge iguana on the side of a tree near their campsite and Harold, who is over 6 feet tall, stood near the tree to show how long that iguana was while Mary took his picture. I got to see that picture and was impressed. On this day, Ann was walking outside our rec hall and encountered both an iguana and a snake crossing the sidewalk! A bunch of us were finishing up our ice cream social and saw her reaction and ours! I took a picture of the iguana on my cell phone, then hurried to get my camera and...

Mar 7, 2009 - More Everglades

The cool and windy weather of the past week has calmed down and it was a beautiful evening for a bike ride at Shark Valley under the moonlight. This time I saw some different animals so I thought I'd share the pictures with you. A ranger named Emma led the way again this month and she told us how night creatures navigate - fireflies make their own light, bats use echos of their sounds that we can't hear, etc.

Dec 31, 2008 - New Year's Eve at L&P Campground

After having dinner with my best friends in Miami, I came back to the campground and went to the party that had a Mardi Gras theme. It got started at 9:30 PM and most of the people were still there when the clock struck 12! The party was a success. I didn't bring my camera, but a couple of people took excellent pictures and shared them. Here are a few.

Nov 16, 2008 - Miami and Home!

Yesterday, I left the "resort" in Fort Lauderdale to come to my Miami site and I was glad to hear that I could come in early. The spot I had in that campground had me wedged between the sewer hole and the water spigot. It is advertised as a pull-through site, so I hooked up the car and was ready to go. I saw that I couldn't turn right because the tree was too close to the RV, so I turned left. What I forgot to think about was that the back end of the RV will turn right as I start the left turn. The car follows, and so it did. The car hit...

Jan 11, 2008 - Biscayne Bay Day

Gette had the day off today and wanted to wind surf, so I went to watch. It was a beautiful day for it – sunny and breezy! I enjoyed watching her, but it didn’t make me develop a desire to take up the sport. It’s hard to hold up the sail, dunks in the water come often, and I’d still rather be on the water, not in it. I watched a sloop go by. It was supposed to be a replica of those ships that served in the underground railroad for those runaway slaves getting to the end of the peninsula by Miami. The ships transported them to islands that...

Nov 20, 2007 - back to my winter home in Miami

I had a peaceful, quiet ride south this morning and checked into the campground having traveled only 130 miles and 2.75 hours. I immediately went to see my good friend, Mary, and she helped me drive into my site instead of backing in on a curve. I am off to take care of business already. I have to get a new phone from Verizon, sign a new card at my local bank, and find out where I can get an estimate for repairs to my seft rear trim that got hit in Canada. Since I will be here all winter, I won't do this all in one day! Ha Ha! Since I have...
