Nov 11, 2012 - Fort Pickens, Florida
After spending almost a week in Lower Alabama (LA)(It took me a while to figure out that if something was named LA it did not mean Los Angeles), we moved a little east and have settled in at Fort Pickens NP at the western end of Pensacola Beach, a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. We were here about 10 years ago and always wanted to get back here. Unfortunately, since we were here last, Hurricane Ivan (2004) really did a number out here. The park used to be loaded with beautiful pines and live oaks, and now there are lots of barren...

Nov 11, 2012 - Happy Birthday Day JC, the big 62
Today is JC's birthday. This one he has been looking forward to almost like a 16 year old waiting to get his first drivers license. Why you ask? Because he can get a "Golden Age Pass" for a one time fee of $10 to get in free at all National parks, Memorials and 50% off camping. These are a few of the benefits. We have been paying $80 a year which covers the park entry fees only. Congratulations! Me, I am in no hurry. LOL We met up with fellow RV'er Don Bingham. The last time we met up with Don was in June 2011 when we found out that JC has...

Aug 1, 2011 - Florida - Pensacola
We drove to Pensacola Beach. The drive was quite a bit further than I had anticipated but we got there in time to go swimming for a few hours. Josh got stung by a small jellyfish but he was fine by this morning. We ate seafood at Flounder's chowder house and it was FANTASTIC!!!! the portions were huge so we have lots of leftovers to enjoy for the rest of our return trip. We also got to see a pretty spectacular lightning storm. The water in the ocean was very clear and warm and we saw a lot of fish in the water. Now your caught up. we are on...

Apr 25, 2011 - Life
It is precious...even in difficult times. Elgin and I have enjoyed our time here at Pensacola Beach. He has slept...a lot...and I have sat on the balcony...a lot. The water seems to restore my soul and relax me. We received a phone call from my sister this morning...dear family friends and former pastor and wife from the church where my family went in Dexter when they first moved there... were murdered yesterday in their home.Such a tragic and senseless loss. There is no clue who or why...but we know they are in a better place. It was such...

Apr 24, 2011 - Easter on the Road
We were back on the road by 10:30(9:30 central time) this morning and we arrived in Pensacola Beach about 3:00. We did stop for gas and for lunch at Wendy's and at a rest stop along the way. Elgin saw a billboard for a "hot and juicy burger" from Wendy's and so that was our quest for the day...finding one. And we did and the burger was very good and we both like the new sea salt fries. We checked in at the Holiday Inn on the beach...every room has a great view. But there is no restaurant on the premises...they only serve breakfast. But the...

Dec 17, 2010 - Pensacola Beach

Oct 30, 2009 - Gulf Islands National Seashore, FL
Camping World has to order the part needed to fix a tension spring in the awning, so they are sending it to Kissimmee, FL and I will get the awning fixed when I go there next week or so. I don't remember when the spring broke or how, but want to get it fixed before I can't use the awning at all. This morning I went to a mattress outlet store and bought a mattress for my bed to replace the one I was given last winter by Joanne and Chuck to replace the standard issue mattress that comes with motor homes. I can't wait to find out if it's...

Sep 5, 2008 - Pensacola
So today is really a road day and not much site seeing. I chose Pensacola for a couple of reasons. First I wanted to enjoy a little beach time during this trip and there seemed to be some pretty nice ones there. Also I have always loved jets and especially the Blue Angles. This is the home base for them and them have a pretty cool aviation museum there as well. Even the rest area before I arrived into town had a older Blue Angles F4 Phantom mounted outside and visible from the freeway. Love the colors. Getting there is bit far from...
