Jul 1, 2016 - Hanging with the homey

Got up a little late today. Charlotte had an interview at 10 am so we were going to wait for that to be done before doing anything. She was unable to contact him at 10, so she thought that maybe she got the time wrong and it should be 12 so we waited. Tried to contact him at 12 and still unable to reach him. She left him a message to call her and we waited for awhile. He never did call. While waiting I worked on the blog for a good portion of the day. I am not a good writer, and words come hard to me, so it takes some time for me to get...

Jun 30, 2016 - Going back in time

Today we were up, ate breakfast and just about ready to get in the car for driving around today. It has been raining heavily this morning and as we were about ready to leave it really started pouring. We kinda waited for it to slow down, but before we could leave a lady from another RV knocked on our door and said that her awning was out and she couldn't get it in. It was filling with water and she asked if I could help. We drove over and I tinkered with the switch to see if I could get it working but nothing happened. So I started to use a...

Jun 29, 2016 - Work day

Today is a work day. We had a great breakfast in the RV and then I needed to get back to work. I work for a business doing their accounting which is all online, so I can do it from anywhere. We also lost water at the RV park this morning, but it was back up and running by noon. But we are told that we should boil the water before drinking until they have it tested. So I ran out and grabbed some bottled water for drinking. We finished the day with a wonderful walk together and watched a beautiful sunset.

Jun 28, 2016 - National Naval Aviation Museum

Today I am off to another museum, but first, I have to stop and have breakfast at the Waffle House. Out here in the south, they are more plentiful than McDonalds. It seems like you can't drive two miles without seeing one. Good breakfast for a very good price. I had been to one thirty years ago and wanted to go again. You will be hearing me say that a lot, as I will go back to the different places I have been and try them again. Today it is off to the National Naval Aviation Museum on Pensacola Naval Air Station, which is just 7 miles down...

Jun 27, 2016 - Traveling to Pensacola FL

Up this morning, getting breakfast and then getting ready to move. We are off again today going to Pensacola Florida. We have about 6-7 hours of travel time to get to our destination. Our drive for the most part was on roads that were almost like freeways, except for a 30 mile section on entering Alabama which was single lane each way with quite a bit of traffic. Most of the drive was through beautiful countryside of lush green grasses and forests. Pensacola Naval Air Station RV Park is a very large complex with lot to do, but it is way...

Jun 13, 2016 - Travelin Days

This is our second day on the road and all is going well. Since we got a late start, about noon, Sunday we tried to get as far as possible. We took it easy but got almost to Pensacola and stayed over night at a rest stop. That allowed us to get an early start today. Our real out of state adventure began when we crossed into a new time zone as we crossed the Appalachacola River. Then we hit, not literally, Alabama with all the red clay. The first Alabaman who said "roll tide" to me (sorry gators) was the lady at the welcome center. Carol was...

May 9, 2016 - Exploring Pensacola

My day started off as I expected. I had a real jumble of stuff in the car and camper so after dropping off things for Connie and Ron I was ready to sort out my own stuff for the rest of the trip. I had a leisurely morning in the campground getting organized and as usual, that meant a few people stopped by for the teardrop tour. I met one couple I really liked, Cary and Donna, who are sort of local. Donna is from Alabama (even a Bama fan and I still like her) and Cary lives in Pensacola (a Florida State fan….what a pair!). Since I didn’t...

Apr 25, 2016 - Pensacola FL

To paraphrase, well, butcher, a line from John Gillespie Magee, Jr, “We have slipped the surly bonds of Tallahassee...” and have winged our way west to Pensacola. Our time in Tally was busy, but too short in some respects. Friday's events pretty much went off as predicted; we ran a bunch of errands, hung out at the mall gabbing with Kyle, Sara and her boss Alan, then ate some Blaze pizza for a late lunch then it was back to the house for the night. Saturday was lunch with K&S at Burger Fi, then the girls went for their mani-pedi while Kyle...

Apr 2, 2016 - Perdido Key, Florida

Perdido Key serves as our home base while we are in the Florida Panhandle. The term is Spanish and Portuguese for “lost”. Its location provides easy access to all the attractions and commercialization of the Pensacola and Gulf Shores area, yet Perdido Key itself is a little gem. Only 16 miles long, there are no hotels, but lots of rental properties. Perdido’s rich landscape remains largely undisturbed, with 60 percent of the land contained within the National Seashore and state parks. During our time here, we made almost daily walks along...

Feb 28, 2016 - Pensacola, FL

On Thur. the weather had cleared, sunny and cool. We headed out and drove to Pensacola. Being off the interstate on route 19 and 98, was very pleasant as there was very little traffic and going along the coast was lovely and scenic. From Panama City to Pensacola was a bit different as we picked up the beach traffic. A traffic accident thrown in held us up for an additional hour, but we made it just at dusk. Our friend, John Sedlak, another navy buddy from EOD days, met us and helped us find a space in the Blue Angel Navy Recreation Area...

Jan 24, 2016 - The Lights have Gone Orange!

WOW it's already nearly the end of January! I have been remiss and not updated my blog mainly because I wanted something substantial to report...but unfortunately there is still no good news to be had. The lawyer sent our visa application to the incorrect address - wrong department, different building, not even the right State...so after sitting here twiddling our thumbs, and eventually asking the question of our legal eagle and him subsequently chasing it down - we found that the premium processing fee we had paid to get a quick answer...

Nov 21, 2015 - Red Tape and Paperwork

It's been a busy few days with Nick helping our friend Jack with his Cadillac and maintenance around the place, in between looking at suitable premises from which to run our proposed motorcycle hire/tour business. We think we have found the right place with the correct zoning so an offer was put in place to lease it for 2 years.....but seeing as it is an attorney who owns it, I don't know how successful our offer will be. Meanwhile we are keeping everyone else busy with untold emails and endless questions; the accountant setting up our LLC...
