Jan 16, 2011 - NSA Campground

Not much going on. While all you folks back home have had snow, we've had rain. The temperatures have dropped into the 20s at night and daytime highs were in the 40s, however we did make it into the 50s today. It's supposed to be back in the 60s tomorrow, but it seems as soon as it warms up, it rains which they are calling for tomorrow. Tried to go to the "dog park" to let Sadie run off the leash today, but the local sheriff's department had several inmates cleaning the park so we left as no one else was there. I took some pictures of the...

Dec 31, 2010 - Panama City Beach

Made it to Panama City Beach yesterday. We're staying at the Navy Station here where they train Navy divers (like in the movie "Men of Honor"). We chose to stay at the Navy campground that's off base. The one they have on base is on the bay, but the lots are very close together and don't have concrete pads. The southside campground we're staying at has very roomy spaces and the pads are big enough to pull the car down beside the bus instead of having to park it in front. We're also right next to the laundry so that's convenient. Each lot...

Dec 20, 2010 - Panama City Beach

Driving along the beach from Pensacola to Panama City Beach, we hoped for some beautiful sunny weather but drove in the rain the entire time. That area is called Emerald Beach but sure wasn't visible that day. We were so bummed. We stayed 2 days there hoping the sun would return but no such luck. My walk on the beach was cold, rainy and nasty. Did find some beautiful shells that I had never seen before which was fun. Spent most of our time in the motor home reading and catching up on paperwork and praying for better weather when we meet the...

Dec 14, 2010 - Panama City Beach

Sep 29, 2010 - Great time in Panama City Beach

Our first full day in Panama City… What a beautiful day… We have friends Pat and Hugh (the ones we last saw in Houston where Pat was fighting cancer again) staying about 35 miles north of us at Top Sail State Park near Destin… We started driving along the beach toward them looking for a nice place to meet for lunch on the ocean… We drove and drove but could not find the perfect spot so we met up with them in a Publix parking lot and all went in their truck to check out Destin… Hugh was in charge and brought us to an awesome place where we...

Sep 27, 2010 - Birmingham to Montgomery to Panama City Beach

Oh darn… I’m so far behind again… It is hard to have so much fun and then still have time to write about it…. I need more hours in a day… When we left Birmingham we didn’t have more then about 75 miles to Wetumpka, AL which is just outside of Montgomery… We were going to Wetumpka because that is where our friends Glen and Judy lives and they were going to accept the rim that the dealer was sending us to replace our cracked one… Gee we were lucky to get all the way from Texas without a spare tire and not have any more problems… We were...

Jun 23, 2010 - Trouble in Panama City (florida, that is)

CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE Wasted a day trying to fix the AC in the RV. The dealer service center said they couldn't work on the chassis AC and sent us to an AC guy who worked for several hours and finally said it was not operating at full power (no kidding, it was 95 degrees inside the coach) but he couldn't fix it. They thought it might be in a computer controller or some such thing and recommended we find a Workhorse/Chevy Truck repair center. We found one in Pensacola, Florida and one in Santa Fe, New Mexico and decided to can the first...

Jun 15, 2010 - Oncologist Visit

We are still living in an oven here in the Florida Panhandle with no relief in sight. It is playing havoc with our travel plans because its hot every place our short leash will let us go. We sort of received a curve ball from the oncologist this morning. We were expecting to be told that we would have one more chemo treatment and then we would try to get an appointment with the National Cancer Institute in MD to get a shot that would enhance any further chemo treatments Doug might need. Instead we got aimed in another direction. Doug had...

Jun 14, 2010 - And The Heat Goes On.

The record setting heat wave continues in the Florida Panhandle with temps hovering around 100 in the afternoons. The only saving grace is that the humidity is low by Florida standards; around 57%. Our first stop this morning was at the diabetes school in Lynn Haven for a follow up interview. It appears that Doug is doing all right with treating himself in spite of the complications that chemo and steroids add to the mix. We had a good session and were refreshed about some of the things we learned when we took the full class last fall. Then...

Jun 13, 2010 - Break in at Unity

JoAnn has long had a wonderful gift for leading a guided meditation and she was asked to do so again at Unity this morning. Our regular minister was supposed to be on vacation and the substitute asked JoAnn to do the meditation. When we arrived at the building, there were police cars there investigating a break in. It seems that someone had broken a rear window and entered the building. They took a lot of electronic devices to include one of our new teleprompters which is used for announcements and music lyrics etc. The show went on and...

Jun 12, 2010 - New Tag a Long in PDL

The record heat here in the panhandle is really taking its toll on us. Fillmore goes out in the morning and after dark. Doug tries not to go out at all and JoAnn does as little as possible and then early in the morning. On Friday she went to the new PCB library and found some books then stopped by Publix on her way home and that was her external activity for the day. Doug remained inside but did dig out his blow torch and anvil to repair some loose moulding in the rig and tighten up a loose light fixture. Today we drove up to PDL to see...

Jun 10, 2010 - Running Around

This morning JoAnn got up and went for a long walk on the beach while Doug stayed in bed. She said that even though it was hot, there was a nice breeze blowing. By the time she headed home around 10 AM, the beach was filling up with tourists. About 11, Doug took off for PC. He stopped at Los Rancheros and had lunch with long time friend Gene. We had a pleasant interlude together. Gene is a confirmed blog reader so he is up to date on Doug's life but D needed to get caught up on his. Mexican food in PC is good, but not like the Mexican food...
