Feb 18, 2013 - Man in the Sea Museum

We stopped at this museum on our way to the Margaritaville. When Jim worked the oil spill he would drive up and down Hwy 98 and see this museum but never stopped in. It intrieged him though and he never forgot it. Luckily, we were able to stop by it when we were in Panama City Beach, but unfortunately it was closed. At least we were able to get out and walk around the outside displays and he was able to look at them closer and see what they were. There are a couple of plaques that are hard to read but they describe some of the subs and what...

Feb 12, 2013 - The beach

We have been here not quite 24 hours and have seen the weather and sea change twice! The wind just switched back around to the southeast, ending the rain and bringing fog and foamy waves. Earlier it was from the north, with calm seas and light showers off and on. We have seen Common Loons fishing in the surf, as well as a Red Breasted Merganser and some Common Mergansers. We saw a couple of porpoises swimming offshore. And we watched the tiny sandpipers run up and down the beach just barely out of reach of each wave. How they know just how...

Feb 11, 2013 - Panama City Beach again

We flew through our ride today thanks to a strong tailwind. Boy, am I glad we weren't riding into that wind! The jet fighters were taking off as we rode through Tyndale AFB, and were really loud but with low clouds we never caught a glimpse of one. Log trucks were off work yesterday but are running today. Of course, you can hardly call what they are hauling logs, compared to the northwest. More like sticks. They range from around 12" in diameter at the base to about 2" at the end that hangs off the truck. We discovered the sticks are...

Feb 2, 2013 - Prettiest so far

It was a tad chilly when we left at 8:30 this morning, but the wind was not bad and the traffic was light. About 4 miles from the motel, we discovered we had forgotten our fresh, unopened packages of ham and cheese in the frig. Oh, well, we weren't going back! We left hwy 98 after 5 miles and found a bike lane that ran for 25 miles! It took us through the prettiest scenery we have seen so far. There were lots more people out walking or biking. We passed two couples, then realized one of the couples had turned around to follow us. It turns...

Dec 28, 2012 - Panama City Beach, FL

The is a one-nighter in the St Andrews State Park, Panama City, Florida. We liked it here so much a month ago that we went a little out of our way to visit again. It is right on the water, quiet and scenic, and has nice walking trails and plentiful wildlife.

The Great Escape

Nov 17, 2012 - Panama City Beach, FL - 2012

Our stay at Panama City Beach has been with mixed feelings because it has been so cold. The day we arrived, Tues., it was pleasant. I am glad we went for a walk that day because it has been down hill from there. Wednesday morning we went for another nice walk, but that was about it. Thursday it rained and Friday, the sun never came out and it did not get above 56 degrees with a damp wind chill. Brrrrrr. And, to add insult to injury, today was beautiful....and we are leaving. That's all the complaining I will do today. Wednesday we met up...

Nov 6, 2012 - Back Home in Florida

For the past month, we have been enjoying gorgeous fall weather here in Northwest Florida. Besides that, most of the tourists have gone home and we locals have the place to ourselves for the best time of the year! The morning I left Canada, the temperature got down to 38 degrees, so it was the perfect time to get come back to sunny Florida. What have I been doing since I got back home? Mostly just routine things... line dancing 3 mornings a week, lunches and other get togethers with friends, some volunteer work with hospice, walks at our...

Living Our Dream

Jun 18, 2012 - A Catch Up Blog

Yes, I'm finally writing a blog. So many of you have been asking..... Even though I'm presently in California for a visit, this one will just be a quick catch up on what I've been doing the past winter. Blogs about the California trip will follow soon, maybe today or tomorrow. Mostly, this winter has been a time of adapting to my new life. It's very strange to be by myself and to be in one place day after day. My routine activities have included lots of lunches, dinners and walks with friends, church, learning to line dance (still a...

Living Our Dream

Mar 18, 2012 - Panama City Beach NSA

The drive from Madison, FL to Panama City Beach is an easy 140 miles. Of the several options we chose to take Hwy 231 from I-10, quick and easy, just like that! ! ! We'll be here for 5 weeks, enjoying the sun, fun, fishing and some sightseeing. Not much more on our agenda. Dave and John have already got fishing information that'll get them started. As most places in the US the weather here is acting odd for the season. Darn, Dang if its 88 degrees with light winds and low humidity! I guess we'll just have to take it as it comes at us! This...

Mar 8, 2012 - Panama City Beach and Spring Break

Monday we had another short drive day with the move being less than 150 miles. We drove on US 98 along the coast and really enjoyed the Gulf drive. We stayed at the Emerald Coast RV Resort which has a Woodall 5 star rating and a Trailer Life 3-10 rating. The price was more that we would normally spend for a RV Park but they did have a lot of amenities. Monday afternoon we went on a drive and realized that this really was Spring Break week here. There were lots of collage age kids everywhere and lots of traffic. A trip to Walmart was a...

Mar 1, 2012 - soooo....depressing.....

What's more depressing than traveling all day through rain and fog and 100% humidity? Checking the weather forecast for where you just were (Bradenton) and seeing it is 27 degrees and sunny for the next three days. We are in Panama City Beach and the forecast here is 23 degrees and rainy for three days. Sounds like it is time to head indoors...to Silver Sands Outlet mall @ Destin. Who cares about the weather when you are at the mall? Definitely in the plans for tomorrow, I'll set the GPS in the morning and Seth will be in for a surprise...

Hillbilly Holiday

Jan 30, 2012 - Panama City,FL

Staying in Panama City,FL at Campers Inn for 1 day. Explored St Andrews State park and took alot of photos. Beautiful park and beach and sand dunes were very nice. Showers wer really bad- they were not labelled Men or Women but I noticed the urinal. Also no lock on door so anyone can walk in when you are showering. Toilets 2 of them in open - no stalls. Terrible.
