Mar 29, 2013 - Old Town, FL
3/29/13, Friday We got up and out early today planning on a 4 hour or so drive to Old Town, FL. We drove US 98 along the water most of the way. What a GORGEOUS drive!! Again, we saw many houses and lots for sale. Mexico Beach was one of the prettier beaches along the way. US 98 was literally right on the sandy beach. It was Spring Break so there were many young college kids out having a great time. We passed the Constitutional Convention State Park and a lot of awesome scenery. We came to the town of Apalachicola where we could not help...

Mar 13, 2013 - Moving North
Tuesday was moving day. It dawned dark and raining – ugh! We have packed up and moved in the rain before but would rather not. We actually contemplated staying another day and called to see if our site was available for one more – nope. So, since we would have to move anyway, it was time to get on with it. It was still raining as we left Sarasota and headed north on I-75. The rain soon dwindled and eventually it stopped. It actually turned out to be a decent travel day. We decided to stay at a park on the Suwannee River that takes Passport...

Apr 22, 2012 - Friends, Family and Florida
We made it to Florida! We are enjoying a 2-day stay at Suwannee River Hideaway in Old Town Florida (Scott and Leta, sorry we didn’t make it to your house). I am writing this journal while sitting under our awning during a rain shower amongst a canopy of trees and birds singing. After we left Louisiana we made a short trek to Enterprise, Alabama with our sole goal of visiting a former teacher (and a very dear friend) from my staff at Merlinda, Rhonda and her family. After falling in love with her husband, Bryan, Rhonda left Merlinda the year...

Mar 1, 2011 - Westward Ho!
Working my way back. Well, today marks the start of the journey back west. This morning brought some pretty good rain – I think the travel god’s are punishing me. But, I have to say, it was a bit refreshing. My time and distance were much more relaxed today, and I even made a last minute route change after checking on my mail at Clermont. The drive up to Old Town was really very easy. Finally – no major road construction. And the secondary roads were not very busy, with much more things to look at. Still no view of the west coast, but got...

Feb 25, 2011 - Manatee Springs State Park
We started the day at Manatee Springs State Park and ended it at Cedar Key. Although Cedar Key was our destination, with visions of a sunset and seafood dinner on the pier, the State Park was by far the best part of the day. The main spring was lovely with reflections of flowers and shoreline grasses and trees; the water was blue green and clear. The area that was typically open to canoes and kayaks was closed off beyond a certain point so that the manatees had a safe place to rest. We walked a boardwalk that led from the Spring to the...

Feb 24, 2011 - On the road again
It feels good to be back on the road again. Now we have to figure out how to make up for lost time...on the other hand, time is on our side, and flexibility is our approach to life in general these days. It took less time than the map indicated to arrive at Old Town, FL. We are staying at a campground that is near Manatee Springs State Park. We had hoped find a campsite in the State Park, but all the sites were booked. Instead, we are staying about 15 minutes away in an Escapee Club-recommended campground. The weather is a balmy 77 degrees...

Dec 1, 2010 - Seffner, FL to Old Town, FL
Traveling with Carol, Lou & Beau ................ We had a rather slow trip from Seffner to Yellow Jacket RV Resort in Old Town. There was a lot of road construction. We were fascinated by a HUGE pipeline system like we have NEVER seen before being laid along the roadside....miles and miles of 36" blue/red piping, and then concrete covers were placed over the piping. The concrete pieces were shaped like a heavy concrete archway lowered onto the piping - then, after everything was assembled, the whole system was buried underground. Such a...

Apr 8, 2010 - Everybody Else Left and We Cleaned up to Leave
Thursday, April 8, 2010 Howard and Adie got ready to leave. Went back to the Camp and rode the 4-wheelers. Rode in the Dixie Hunt Club. We were gone about 3 hours. Went back to the campground and got some washing done and started packing up. Kermit and I did something new this time, we got all the clothes and linens washed the night before. This way we just packed everything back in its place and didn’t have to take it all in the house whenever we got home. Went ahead and got the Coach cleaned before we left the campground so we didn’t have...

Apr 6, 2010 - Another Day at the Camp
Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Dave, Barb, Zoey , Kermit and I went over to the Camp to ride the 4-Wheelers. We rode over to the lake across the street from the Camp. Had a good time riding the 4-wheelers around the property. Then we drove them down to see Grotto Springs and we saw two deer cross the road in front of us.
