Feb 29, 2012 - Drove the Tamiami Trail

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 What a nice week we had. Just keeps getting nicer and nicer weatherwise tho we have seen some clouds here and there and actually had a little sprinkle a time or 2. We went out on a night hike on the Anhinga Trail, which was the mostly boardwalk trail that had lots of critters along it. It was another gorgeous nite. We wore long pants in case the bugs were out. Whoa did that feel weird, havin long pants on. Gator eyes glow bright beady red when a light hits them. Spooky. A bunch of them were out and several birds...

Feb 15, 2012 - Geocaching In The Everglades

Today would be a nice day for a drive out to the Everglades, we have not been out this way for over forty years. The first thing you see is that the area has grown from nothing to houses, homes, buildings and man made things. You can now camp at a few campgrounds in the area and get to see the real Everglades, take a few days to see the wild. As a young man in florida I did not look twice at the glades, now I can take the time to see things that I would not give a second glance. Pine Hammock Meeting place was where the governor and the...

Mar 26, 2011 - Everglades wildlife

Today I went with Laurie and Jeanne to the Florida Panther National Wildlife Preserve which is just off I-75 at the exit with State Route 29. There are two trails there, totaling 1.6 miles. The morning was very foggy and it was lifting as we got there. That made it sound like it was raining softly at the beginning of our walk. While we didn't see a panther, we did see a red-bellied woodpecker, a yellow warbler,4 deer, a red-shouldered hawk, and I almost stepped on a skinny ribbon snake! When we were finished, we went down Route 29 and...

Feb 18, 2011 - Biscayne Nat'l Park & Big Cypress Preserve

From Florida City, FL … Friday, February 18, 2011 We were pretty tired by the time we returned to our motel in Florida City last night. But the coffee we had with our key lime pie helped us stay up until midnight. : ) Friday morning we got up and packed our bags. We pulled out of our motel around 8:30am. First on our agenda for today was a quick trip to Biscayne National Park. This Park is only about 10 miles from our motel and only 8 miles from Highway 1. Over 90 percent of Biscayne National Park is underwater, so to experience it to its...

Nov 19, 1994 - A weekend in the Everglades

November 19, 1994 Saturday What a wet place - & not rain either. We got up & all the windows were covered with dew. The sun was out & it looked like what promised to be a great day! We had coffee & Jane did some cleaning while Ted checked out the fishing & metal detecting situation. We were soon both fishing with very little action. We changed ponds & the only luck we had was that two alligators were interested in our bobbers. We went back to the first pond & Jane started getting bites in a certain area. It ended up that Ted caught a...
