Sep 28, 2019 - Ross Prairie Trailhead and campground

We are on the road after our trail got the roof fixed and was in the repair shop for over a month. We had to cut out a few days here and there because we did not get on the road in time. We were going to Al. the first week then over to Rome , GA for the geocaching Event. But we did not get started early like we wanted, so we had to adjust the trip. We took out the first week and started at the second week of travel, which was to be up at Americas, GA and to visit Plains, GA for some Geocaching.

Always Young 2019

Apr 2, 2019 - Ocala

Back into civilization today, so that means traffic on I-75. We're in Ocala for a few days. We met up with Michael's in-laws and had a very nice evening and dinner at their home. Marley seemed happy to just be in a house again, even if it wasn't her own. The Ocala Sun RV Resort has more than doubled in size since we were here last. The Winter crowds are thinning out, but there are still a good number of license plates from colder climates everywhere we go. At this point, we've added 3,619 miles to the motorhome on this trip.

Winter2018-2019

Dec 18, 2018 - Ocala FL

Our visit on Monday to Congaree National Park https://www.nps.gov/cong/index.htm was damp and cold, but snow-free. The park is small at just over 26,000 acres (in comparison, Yellowstone is 2.24 MILLION acres) and it is one of the least visited national parks in the lower 48 states with less than 160,000 visitors in 2017 compared to the over 4 million that saw Yellowstone that year. The park’s main draw is it’s hardwood forest and other than trees – which is not a bad thing – there isn’t much else to see or do. Hiking and canoeing are the...

Dec 25, 2017 - Ocala FL

Saturday morning found us getting a new satellite dish installed then after a quick lunch, we commenced to throwing all the remaining stored items back into the house which took a mere 5½ hours. Oh, and by the way, we don’t have enough room. Well, at least as of Saturday night we don’t have enough room. On the inside we knew we were going to have to rethink how and where we stored things...different floor plan, different cabinets. On the outside I knew there was going to have to be some more reorganizing. But I was obviously sucked in to...

May 20, 2017 - May Winnebago Caravan

For those of you wondering if we were hitting the road this year, we are but we won’t be work camping and won’t start our summer run until June 30th. Much of my time the last few months has been recovering from open heart surgery in December. I can report that I am doing well. I graduated from my rehab program and am starting to get a little more energy. My doctor released me from follow up visits until October, so we’re good to go. We did a warm up run with our Winnebago club last month which was a 14 day caravan. The first leg of which...

Mar 26, 2017 - Ocala FL

This update is a mix of good and bad. The good is that things in The Villages have been going pretty well so we have moved the house up to Ocala for a couple days in order to spend some time with my parents, my almost 104 year grandfather, my brother and his girlfriend. If things continue as they are, we will probably be hitting the road Tuesday and heading to Tallahassee to see our niece Julia, then – surprise, surprise – Red Bay for some hopefully quick repairs before we start out zig-zaggy summer tour. Now for the bad. After seeing his...

Dec 14, 2016 - Big Scrub cg

We drove 7 miles down a dirt road thru the Local Natl Forest to find this campground. Great hosts, average cg. But you have access to the atv centennial trail which we took. We stopped at the Blue sink hole which was great but left my cell phone there. We realized it 5 miles later when we stopped to take pics of bear tracks. The trail was a hoot to ride on but we got turned around and got back after dark. Luckily the atv has great headlights.

Sep 18, 2016 - Home

Over the past two days, I've covered about 750 miles from Biloxi to home. That's a BIG trip for me. I like to limit myself to driving the motor home about 200 miles per day. I think I've only had a few 300 miles days this summer. Now back home after 150 days on the road and 9,400+ miles on the motor home (plus local mileage on the car). Stopped at Blue Beacon Truck Wash north of Tampa to have the dirt, love bugs and other misc. splats washed off the motor home. A coat of RainX over it all plus tire dressing and the rig looks new again. I...

2016 Summer Trip

Aug 16, 2016 - Almost Heaven

We left Emily and Andy's home in suburban Atlanta about 8:30 a.m. Traffic moved along just fine and in about 45 minutes we were on I 75 headed to Florida. We had a long day traveling 8 1/2 hours. We were happy to cross into Florida and stop for some orange juice at the Welcome Center. As we continued on to our destination for the night, we saw the clouds thickening and darkening. Finally the rain began, a typical late afternoon summer thunderstorm in Florida. I was driving and I turned on the windshield wipers. About 15 minutes later there...

Jun 24, 2016 - Back Home

We arrived back home on Wednesday June 22 at about 2:45 PM. We traveled each of the last 5 days with stops in Sunset Texas, Shreveport Louisiana, Livingston Louisiana and Bonifay Florida (we never heard of it before either!). Although the 8 day trip home was hot at times we are thankful to be home safely, and without experiencing any additional problems. Our trip lasted 33 days (about a week less than planned), and we traveled 4,822 miles through 8 different states. We visited 4 National Parks and 2 State Parks among numerous locations...

Apr 5, 2016 - This is more like it!

We left Tallahassee and headed Southeast. With the weather clearing, it was a nice trip. We're over here in Ocala. We found a nice campground. The snowbirds are all leaving so we're no longer wondering if there's going to be space or not. We get to sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet. Michael's soon to be in-laws live here so we got together with them and had a nice dinner together. Tomorrow we'll be heading about 15 miles down the road. We'll be meeting up with some people we first met a couple years ago. The Lemon's welcomed us into...
