Apr 16, 2016 - Heading north, but weather has us holed up for a few days.

We spent five night anchored in Lake Worth, moving after the first night from south of Peanut Island to the north end near Old Port Cove Marina. Those were relaxing days. Then we moved into Old Port Cove Marina for 4 nights. The first day, we dinghied around to the Waterfront Café (on the ICW) and Chad Chadbourn joined us for lunch. The next night, Joan and Chad picked us up and we went to dinner together. Then on Sunday, Freddy brought Lily and Kaitlyn up to see us. We actually didn’t see too much of them, because they took a long dinghy...

Nov 2, 2015 - What a difference a day makes!!

The weather forecasts that we looked at early this morning were good for a day in the ocean. So we headed out of the inlet at St. Augustine as the sun was rising over the horizon. Almost all day, we had light winds from the south and small waves with a long period. It was a good day. The only issue while we were traveling was that we motored through a fleet (20-30) of big fishing boats with their nets deployed. They were all around us so we really had to watch where they were going. The wind did pick up as we neared the Ponce Inlet at New...

Sep 22, 2014 - New Smyrna Beach

We had a great day of travelling. We love having XM radio to keep us entertained with stations ranging from old time radio shows, oldies, Christian contemporary, country, comedy, and more. It makes the time fly by. But sometimes something happens that makes you go “Yah!” Travelling down I-95 the traffic was light on the 6-lane freeway with a 70 MPH speed limit. We usually travel in the slow lane about 65 MPH minding our own business. Today a white Honda came out of nowhere at a high rate of speed, swerved across the outside two lanes, just...

Mar 2, 2014 - Beach!!

We had a much better viewing of the condo this morning. It is much larger than the pictures looked! Owen and Jackson have their room, Michelle and Mark have their own, and Marie has her own (which she is sharing with her cousin Janet this weekend. After breakfast, we hit the beach. Cold water, but Jackson was more than happy to dip his feet every few minutes.

Florida 2014

Feb 5, 2014 - New Smyrna Beach, FL

From New Smyrna Beach, FL … February 5, 2014 We spent some time with Sam and Sandy in New Smyrna Beach this week. I really like this cute beach town full of local flavor. One day we played golf. Ok, well I rode along while the other three played golf. I’m afraid I don’t have the patience for it, but I do enjoy watching it. And I especially enjoy watching my husband play as he is very passionate about the game. : ) We also enjoyed some good seafood there and had a fun time together. The weather could have been a bit warmer, but overall, it...

On the Road Again

Nov 6, 2013 - To New Smyrna Beach, FL

Fred got us going by 0615, so that we would catch the tide right at the high Rise bridge just south of St. Augustine. From then on, it was a matter of checking the tide boards and the number of boards in fenders at the high rise bridges. It seemed like we went under a million today. In Daytona Beach at the twin bridges, we anchored for 1hr 40 min waiting for the tide to fall. Karen checked Active Captain (great web site) and there were notes that the tide boards at those bridges were wrong by -2 ft. We really dragged the antenna on the...

Apr 23, 2012 - St. Augustine

Hi All! We left from Palm Coast, FL to St. Augustine. It was very cold. Temp in the morning was 54 and the wind was 25/30 knots. Tom had difficulty giving up is shorts but finally with long pants, sweatshirt and jacket he was doing okay...still cold in the wind but okay! We don't undertand how some of the Canadians make it down to Florida without an enclosure. Just one day of this "stuff" was plenty for us! We stayed on the boat when we arrived here. Just too cold to go into town. We have enjoyed all the birds we have seen along the way....

Apr 22, 2012 - On our way from New Smyrna Beach, FL to Palm Coast Marina.

Hi all! Well we are on the ICW again. We are going to Palm Coast Marina. We had a pleasant surprise. The girl on the phone said that their rates have gone from $1.79 a foot to $1.32 a foot. THEN she said if we didn't need water or electric (which we don't) it would be $20.00! That's amazing since the facility is very nice. So it was a no brainer to stay for the night. We are planning to be there by 4:30 pm if all goes well. The weather has been overcast and rainy since we crossed back to the U.S. Florida was very dry due to lack of rain but...

Apr 21, 2012 - New Smyrna Beach, FL waiting for the storms

Hi All! We stayed over at New Smyrna Beach, FL because of predicted severe storms. They didn't happen which is fine by me! We got a chance to walk around the ICW part of town. They have a nice shopping area a few blocks from the marina. The main street is Canal Street. There are two nice restaurants there...Jason's Corner Restaurant and Maloney's Oyster Bar. We took advantage of the cheaper prices now that we are back in the U.S. It was strange for the menu not to be pigeon peas and rice, mac and cheese, and fried conch, shrimp or chicken!...

Mar 23, 2012 - Headed back to familiar surroundings

Friday, March 23, 2012 Made it to New Smyrna Beach last Friday. We camped at the same CG when we were here the month of January so we saw lots of familiar faces. Friday nite started off with a bang since there was a live band at the pool. It was due to Daytona Bike Week. This is the Sturgis of Florida where umpteen thousands of bikers (mostly loud Harleys) head for the beach. When we drove by Daytona on I-75 we drove by a large Harley Davidson dealer and there were more motorcycles in one place than we had ever seen. When we rolled into New...

Mar 8, 2012 - Daytona Beach for the day

What a fun day! Walked along the beach in Daytona. After that, stopped for hamburger's and onion rings at one of the outside establishments. Next, onto an afternoon on main street, where we watched the many bikers arriving for the biggest yearly biking event. It was fun people and bike watching. Brought back memories. Can't believe I ever owned a bike. Much more fun watching. The beast used to ride a BMW K1200. He actually rode guite a bit more than I did. (I never made it out of a parking lot.) Didn't like wearing black...
