Feb 7, 2016 - Navarre, FL.

It was 275 mile trip from Baton Rouge to Navarre Florida. We called ahead to make reservations and finally found a RV park that could take us for two nights. They only had one site which was on the beach. It was a little pricey. We had no complaints. It's a beautiful spot and the envy of the fellow park residents. 80% of the park are snowbirds from the northwest. Everyone is friendly and fun to visit with. Check out the pictures of the sunset!

Mar 18, 2015 - The End Approaches

Well our Snowbird trip is rapidly coming to an end and it has been a great trip. Lots of new friends and tons of laughter. Some beautiful beach time and even a bit of fishing, with a couple of fish stories to take home. We learned a couple of fun games and, yes, we even played Bingo. Please don't believe any Bingo stories my bride might share. Today we watched the Blue Angels practice and what a great way to spend the day!! How they do what they do, I have no idea, but they do it pretty darned well. Even our cheap cameras caught a couple of...

Mar 14, 2015 - Fog Fog and Rain

The same fog that caused the helicopter crash stayed till yesterday when it was replaced by rain. They were able to work the recovery operation in the rain so I believe the chopper is now on shore. I also think all bodies of marines and soldiers are now recovered. They have cleaned our pier so I'm assuming they don't anticipate any additional body parts washing up here. Such a sad few days. Weather is to become great today and spring break is on. Kids, our busy social calendar and beginning to prepare for the homeward trip means this...

Mar 11, 2015 - A Day of Sadness

When I made this morning's entry, I anticipated another day enjoying the white sand beach, blue sky, new friends and maybe even doing some fishing. What we found instead was that eleven young men lost their lives in Santa Rosa Sound when their helicopter crashed last night. The crash sight is only a couple of miles from our campground and we are in the center of the search area. Beaches are closed and all day airmen and others have been on our beach and pier searching. I watched a few minutes ago as they recovered something more and...

Mar 11, 2015 - Great Beach, Great Food, Miserable Back

Beach is beautiful and yesterday was a bonus because it was supposed to rain, but no rain fell on our day. Unfortunately, Linda's back is shot, but she saw the doc on Monday afternoon and it appears that the new meds are giving her some relief. Her back limits our beach and fishing activity, so we found something else to occupy our time. I'll let the pictures tell you what we did. As an added bonus, we even won at bingo!!!

Mar 5, 2015 - The Short of Breath Old Man and the Sea

Linda was sleeping in and the weatherman said rain, but when she kept sleeping and no rain appeared, I went fishing. Sat there for a few minutes when what to my wondering pole did strike, but a 39" Black Drum. Best fishing day of this trip by far. When the battle was ended I needed help to release him and was glad when the rain began because me or my lungs wanted no more of that action today. Just think, I could be home waiting for the snow to stop so I could begin shoveling. I think I'd rather fight a big Drum Black or Red.

Mar 4, 2015 - Fog Fog and more Fog

Two days of heavy fog with warm temps leads to two wet snowbirds. Air is so heavy you get wet without rain. Wimpy fishermen leave the beach and just go to restaurants instead. Nice tacos in a dry setting beat getting wet any day. Foggy again today so campground snowbirds are loading up on a bus and heading to Golden Nugget Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. We might just be getting old!!

Mar 1, 2015 - Surf and Turf

What can be better than some Surf and Turf? That's what we thought this morning as the weather man told us temps were moving back to mid 60s and the fish report predicted good fishing. Took a steak out of the freezer, cut church and headed to the beach. One small Black Drum later and temp in the high 50s, we left the beach and had our "surf" at the Shrimp Basket. Steak, baked potatoes, squash and maybe some asparagus will finish out the "Turf" portion in a little while. Maybe cutting church wasn't such a good idea.

Feb 16, 2015 - A Real Fish Story

Both sunrise and sunset beautifully painted by the Master's hand with the latter seen by both of us. A windy day with the Gulf finally having enough activity to make a fisherman think it might be a day for some catching so fishing we did go. The fish story that follows can best be told by the observer, cause the fisherman is still in a state of disbelief. Now for the rest of the story, here's Linda: As we were fishing along, a young family of five started fishing beside us. After a short period of time, one of the sons caught a fish. The...

Feb 15, 2015 - A Bit of Romance and a Couple of Fleas

A dinner dance with my bride on Valentines Day with some of our new found friends including a couple who were married exactly one week after us. Just a nice evening for this old couple. Church this morning with another super message about God's love and marriage from Pastor Jeremy. Then we visited two flea markets and I am really concerned that I almost enjoyed it. Might just be getting old!!! Almost forgot: temps in 60s today!!!!

Feb 11, 2015 - What a Day

One of us began the day watching the sunrise as created by the Touch of the Masters' Hand. I feel privileged to be allowed to view such beauty. Then my bride awakened and we joined to enjoy a beautiful sunshiny day which led us back to the beach where we found the Gulf water so calm one thought it painted on canvas. Not a ripple to be found, nor a fish. Finished our day by the fire while watching another of God's amazing sunsets. Cooler weather on the way but nothing like you are supposed to get at home. Enjoy the cold and the snow, but...

Feb 9, 2015 - A Day at the Beach

An absolutely gorgeous day at the beach. Even got around to a little fishing with a nice Redfish on the beach early. Decided to release him and oh what a mistake that was. He apparently called a meeting of all his friends, neighbors, and acquaintances and warned them of my activities, cause he was the last hungry fish of the day. Should have remembered the long ago advice of a real fisherman "keep the first, release the rest". A wonderful day in the sun observing the beautiful Gulf of Mexico with my lovely bride by my side. What could be...
