Nov 17, 2006 - At Least We Didn't Feed The Kids To The Alligators!

Since we left the Keys, we have had some great adventures. On the way north we stopped at Everglades National Park. On the 800m Anhinga Trail (An anhinga is a bird simular to a condor but can swim under water) we saw 21 alligators! Kayley was rather frightened when one was about a metre away and had easy access to the walkway we were on. The next day we visited the Miami Metrozoo (which was absolutely the best zoo we have been to yet! Sorry Toronto and Calgary) after spending the night in an old avacado orchard. The highlight was feeding...

Nov 5, 2006 - Week 3 (end of week 1 in Nokomis Beach, Fla)

Nov 1 - 5, 2006 Well, we are here in Nokomis. It is a beautiful area. We are about ten minutes from the beach by bike, less by car. We have already identified several great beach restaurants - ate lunch in Pelican's Alley on Nov 2 after a 20 mile bike ride along Casey Key. Casey Key is full of multi-million dollar homes, and people like Oprah, Stephen King and Jerry Springer live there. Michelle Lyons' (my friend Vicki's daughter) grandmother in law lives there, too. Pelican Alley is a small place with an outdoor deck right next to the...

Oct 29, 2006 - Florida's Gulf Coast

Yesterday, we left the Atlantic coast and headed west along the highway called Alligator Alley, since it borders the Everglades. We had a slight detour since a semi jack knifed and totally blocked the highway and then we hit some strong rain and thunderstorms, but finally did make it to our destination.... Pine Island, on the Gulf Coast. Pine Island is west of Ft. Myers and Cape Coral and is a pretty rual island. It was a nice drive over several bridges to get there. We drove through Little Pine Island and the town of Matlacha. After we...

Oct 9, 2006 - Ft Myers - Estero, FL

Arrived at this campground near our house around noon on Monday. Spent the next two days unloading the RV and cleaning it up before bringing it to our storage facility. It was good to be home after traveling 16,000 miles from when we left in May. It was a great trip and we look forward to next summer when we can do it all over again.

Apr 26, 2006 - Sarasota

We got the RV out of storage at Neil's place April 19. Had it at Campbell's RV Service and had a good going-over. We got it back week later and have it parked in the site next to our mobile home here at Sun n Fun RV resort. We will take the month to clean, pack and get used to it again. The dogs seem to be exited to go in and out of it again. No more updates until we hit the road. Let us hear from you. Don

Jan 14, 2006 - Fun-N-Sun Resort, Sarasota

January 14. Sarasota FL. This park has wi-fi, tv and internet. Certainly our satellite will become activated soon. Marlene and Bob came up on Sunday afternoon; our day ended with dinner at Coaster's, a great seafood place on the river. Dick was able to get in a couple days of golf with long-time friend Boomer Clark, we spent a fun evening with Becky and Brenda. Finally, Friday, we have satellite for internet, no tv yet though. Soon, they keep telling us.

Nov 22, 2005 - Thanksgiving in VA...Christmas in FL

Our arrival at the Regatta Pointe Marina on 22 November was just in time to secure the boat and fly out of Tampa for Thanksgiving in DC. This year, being odd, has the Wright side all gathering at Bill and Melissa's for Turkey Day and dispersing to the in-laws for Christmas. We spent three days as star guests and were treated to a wonderful "brined" turkey with all the trimmings. Melissa cooked a fabulous feast! The kids and grands ran in the annual 5K Turkey Trot while the rest just kept warm on the sidelines. We returned to the boat in...

Nov 13, 2005 - A ROAM Project in Port Charlotte, FL

We left Vero Beach in late October and went to work in Port Charlotte, Florida at Genesis Christian School, which is a grade school ran by Port Charlotte Nazarene Church. It was a fun month, we love Port Charlotte, Englewood, Venice....all those places on the beautiful white sand beaches!! The school has about 140 kids, a busy place and always something that needs fixed. Lee and I spent most of our time putting stain on the decks of the portable buildings. Lee's back is giving him a bad time so he tried not to work too hard, however, I did...

Geritol Gypsies 2005

Nov 9, 2005 - On the road again, finally

Nov. 9 - Mike was up early and first thing he put away the loose stuff on his bedside table so I knew he was planning on packing up and leaving! He checked the air pressure in the tires - rear tires all needed some air, so he borrowed a compressor...... also, we needed to close up the boat and turn on the dehumidifier and the fan (and where did we put that 3-way plug?)........I had to vacuum out the car and put the storage containers in, and then go to the office and settle our bill, also take a load of stuff to the free table......Gary...

Oct 23, 2005 - Hurricane Wilma

Made it to Florida just in time for a hurricane! Talk about timing. We have been playing the waiting game for 4 or 5 days now and on the eve of the storm are still unsure of exactly how this bad girl is going to effect us. We watched as it desimated Cancun and the Yucatan Peninsula. It is currently offshore of the southwest Florida coast building speed and intensity. NOAA says that the storm will come on shore several miles south of our location in Naples. They say that we will have high winds and a possiblilty of 5-7 foot storm surge. We...

Jun 30, 2005 - Sarasota

Hahaha, if there was ever a disaster Sarasota was it. (Sorry, mixed tenses, v bad). Did an absolute killer of a drive from New Orleans, as the aircon in the van was broken and we didn't want to be driving during the day. First went and did a swamp tour in Louisiana - which was awesome - the guide was the kickass Cajun dude who just rattled off facts nonstop in a killer southern accent, saw loads of alligators and whatnot, really cool bayou landscape. We went past all these dilapidated houses on the waterfront, and as we went past one there...

Jun 6, 2004 - Another day in Paradise...

Woke up around 8 and got ready to pick up Madeline. Got the right day this time but unfortunately, not the right time. I thought she was coming in around 11, but she got in more like 10 AM. Anyway, with all good intentions, Bill and I went to the airport to pick her up. It's about an hour from the house. Thanks to cell phone technology, we picked her up and everything turned out fine. Plan was to let Madeline rest for awhile and then go for some sightseeing in Sarasota. We went to a bar on the beach in one of the keys and it was beautiful....
