Feb 22, 2011 - The Glades RV Resort, Moore Haven, FL
Didn't go for a walk this morning because my walking clothes were dirty. It was very foggy in the morning. Spent most of the day researching cruise options for late March. Gary came by on his motorcycle to deliver the part that he fixed for Larry's trailer. Went to the pool for about an hour in the afternoon. Grilled steak for dinner, with baked potatoes and broccoli. But not before Dan tipped the grill over and we had to reassemble it before we could cook.

Feb 21, 2011 - The Glades RV Resort, Moore Haven, FL
Went for a 3.3-mile walk/jog in the morning through the park and up the road from the office to the marina. Encountered Logan, the golden retriever, and his mom, Theo, along the way. Finished reading the Patrick Smith book(s) that Marion loaned me. Very good story about the Seminole Indians and how the white man pushed them out of their homes in the Everglades. Hors d'oeuvres and snacks at The Love Shack (looking at the stars with Larry's iPad). Leftover pork steaks for dinner.

Jan 13, 2011 - America's Sweetest Town
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Thursday, January 13, 2011 We had a cold front that moved in the past couple of days. It has only been around 60 both yesterday and today. In fact, last night it got down to freezing, so Charlie had to unhook our water hose outside. During the night we used the water from our fresh water tank inside. When we got up this morning it was 37 degrees. The cold temperatures certainly threatened the vegetable and fruit crops in this part of the state. The news showed hundreds of people who showed...

Jan 11, 2011 - Seeing a dr. on the road
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Tuesday, January 11, 2011 Yesterday we took Charlie to a health center in La Belle. He just went as a walk in, and it took three hours for him to see a doctor. But we were glad when the doctor confirmed that he has a strained muscle in his back and prescribed muscle relaxers. He is feeling some better now but looks forward to getting back to normal. This was our first experience with having to see a doctor while on the road, and it went just fine. First Charlie checked the internet to find...

Jan 9, 2011 - Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Sunday, January 9, 2011 Today’s weather was a bit warmer and less windy. It was a very nice day in the low 70s. On Thursday or Friday (I lose track of time around here), a very nice couple named Don and Pat moved into the park across the road from us. They also have a Cougar RV, so they immediately struck up a conversation with us. Don and Pat who live near Delray Beach, FL, are really friendly and interesting to talk to. Unfortunately, they were only here for a long weekend. This morning...

Jan 8, 2011 - Just Taking it Easy
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Saturday, January 8, 2011 We have spent the last couple days just hanging around the park. Relaxing and letting Charlie rest his back. If he’s not much better by Monday, we will probably take him to a doctor to take a look at it. Yesterday morning I did go into LaBelle for a few hours. While there I did our laundry at one of the local Laundromats. I also went by the grocery store to pick up a few things, checked out a gift shop, and picked up a pizza to bring back with me. While I was out,...

Jan 6, 2011 - Rainy Day
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Thursday, January 6, 2011 We woke up to clouds this morning which soon turned to rain. We mostly stayed inside watching the rains move in and out all day. Neither of us seemed to mind though. We quickly passed the day cooking, reading, and on our laptops. I did squeeze a little house cleaning in there as well. I will say that living in the limited space of an RV for a couple months will definitely test a good marriage. But I'm happy to say that we seem to pass the test just fine. It's...

Jan 5, 2011 - More excellent birding
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Wednesday, January 5, 2011 Although still having some pain in his back, Charlie was definitely feeling better than yesterday. We sat outside in the sun in our chairs this morning while sipping coffee and enjoying some grapefruit. Charlie even felt like taking a short walk along the water. The morning was so spectacular we could hardly tear ourselves away long enough to ride out and do a couple things today. But we eventually pulled out of the park around noon and drove into La Belle. On our...

Jan 4, 2011 - Back Getting Better
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Tuesday, January 3, 2011 Charlie laid around all day today trying to rest his back as much as possible. By tonight he was feeling better, and he was finally able to stand up straight. I had a busy day myself. I got our finances caught up, read outside, walked, rode my bike, and drove into town to the grocery store and car wash. Tonight I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes for our supper. I have made friends with a woman named "Polly" who is in the campsite next to us. Since her husband...

Jan 3, 2011 - Some Birdwatching
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Monday, January 3, 2011 Our day started out very nice. As we sat out on the patio enjoying our coffee, it was already 68 degrees. We discussed a trip down to Everglades National Park and decided a good time to do this would be either this week or next. Charlie studied the Florida map, and I did a little research in my Florida Trails book. We would like to stay overnight and possibly drive on down to the Keys as well. Then we were preparing to go out for our morning walk when Charlie decided...

Jan 2, 2011 - Enjoying the awesome weather
From Ortona Lock COE Campground in LaBelle, FL … Sunday, January 2, 2011 We slept so good last night. We didn’t have run any heat which always helps me to sleep better. When I woke up around 7:30, I heard the hum of an engine running. I thought an RV must be preparing to head out today. However, when I got up and went down to the living room, I saw a large yacht idling in the water in front of our rig. They were waiting to lock through the dam. When we got up this morning, it was in the 60s and quickly warmed as the morning went on. We...

Nov 17, 2010 - Winter Quarters - "The Glades", Moore Haven, FL
/// Wednesday – November 17, 2010 Low Temperature: 63 degrees High Temperature: 89 degrees A Travel Day. We departed the International RV Park in Daytona Beach at 9:15 AM. There was a light high hanging fog but visibility was good. Nice not having to fight the glaring sun while traveling south. It was just a short mile south on I-95 before we turned west on US 4. Road conditions today were very good. Traffic was heavier than on the previous two legs of our trip south but still not bad. Even passing through Orlando wasn't bad. Just west of...
