May 14, 2013 - First day on the road.
We left home at 10:38 this morning heading up I-75 to hwy 48, to hwy 41 to hwy 44 and then on hwy 19, where we saw two turkeys on the side of the road, traffic was as usual hectic on the interstate but once we got on the back roads it was much nicer. We pulled off the road around 6:00 p.m. in Monticello, FL at A Stone’s Throw RV Park. We had lunch at Burger King and had leftover smoke pork for dinner in the RV, Weather only got up to 85 today.

Apr 24, 2013 - Golden Acres Ranch, Monticello, FL
We departed RV Medic just before 4 p.m., knowing it was going to be a good long drive for our overnight stop at Golden Acres Ranch near Monticello. We called ahead to make sure it would be alright to arrive after business hours. We were assured by the hosts it's alright as we knew where we'd be parking on the vast property, no apology was needed. This host property is especially gracious. They are members of the Harvest Host system. Long time readers will recall we stopped by here last year on our way back from Panama City Beach. When we...

Jan 21, 2013 - A pleasant side trip
From KOA Campground Monticello Tallahassee East Temp. 67/45 Another day at the KOA!! We got up early and got our showers and prepared to leave. We called our Good Sam Roadside Service to find us someone to look at the MH. They gave us the number of a mobile service. Bill left a message with them and we went to breakfast. Ate with a nice couple from Indiana and we chatted for about an hour. No return call from the mobile service so I went on the internet and called a truck place. Unfortunately they were a Mack truck but he gave me the number...

Jan 20, 2013 - Mystery solved
From KOA Campground Monticello Tallahassee East Temp. 70/40 Bill wanted to stay an extra night here. It is a beautiful KOA and we just wanted a day of rest. Also, we have satellite reception to watch the playoff games. We went to the free breakfast this morning and the manager fixed me a Belgium waffle with pecans. Very good! Since it was warm, we took a walk on a trail around the lake with the girls. Came back and Bill decided to check the engine. Good thing he did because he pulled out a very big nest and found a broken wire. One of our...

Jan 19, 2013 - Not off to a good start
From KOA Campground Monticello Tallahassee East Temp. 68/41 What an interesting day! Left campground this morning around 9. Planned to have a long day of driving so we could stop early tomorrow to watch the playoff games. We stopped at the first exit and got gas. Pulled back on the interstate and engine light comes on. Having had experience with GM cars, we never got too excited when the engine light came on because most of them did and you just ignored it. However, we didn’t want to take a chance in this MH. Luckily, at the next exit there...

Apr 23, 2012 - Golden Acres Ranch, Monticello, Fl
The goodbye's were tearful and sincere when we parted company from John and MJ in the morning. They'll leave NSA Panama City on Sunday to go their own way as we go ours. It's been a fun two months with them. We were introduced, by our friends Reba and Clark Lovrien, to a new traveling organization called Harvest Hosts. You may have recently read about them in Escapees, FMCA, Motorhome or Trailer Life magazines. In operation since 2010, the following is from the Harvest Hosts website, since I feel I couldn’t do justice for a description:...

Jul 7, 2011 - FLORIDA!!!
At 3:52AM we drove through Florida State Line!!! The boys were exhausted and upset with us that we woke them up for a picture. I was half asleep aswell and Tom was still on a high from 5 hour energy! As we drove through Monticello, FL to get gas, there happened to be a La Quinta Inn so we decided to stop and sleep for a few hours. We all showered and fell asleep from 8AM to 12NOON and we got up and got on the road again. We arrived at Cocoa Beach at 6PM and met up with Aunt Rosemary, Uncle Mark and Aunt Joyce. We went to Kay's Bar BQ for...

Jan 4, 2010 - The Tallahassee area
We drove into Tallahassee from Monticello, and went to the state capital area in the middle of the (small) city. The old capital building had been disintegrating slowly and was too small, so some of the newer wings were taken down and a huge new high-rise office building built behind it to take it's place. The old building was now a very well re-furbished museum with great displays. The new building behind it had a floor at the top for looking over the city.

Nov 3, 2008 - Monticello, Florida at Roger & Susan's place in the woods.
Last Friday we had completed our installation and trial of the updated Solar System on our Teton 5th wheel. It was working beautifully, so we proceeded on to our GOOD friends place near Monticello, FL. Roger and Susan have purchased a 10 acre plot and they are fixing it up for their RV. It is a beautiful place back in the woods where it is quiet and peaceful. It has been a very enjoyable weekend and since Sunday was Pat's BIRTHDAY, we decided to throw her a PARTY and invite as many of our friends and family as we could... What a PARTY it was...

Sep 23, 2008 - day one
For some unknown reason, it was really hard to get going today. But as luck would have it, since we dillied around all morning, I got to say hi and goodby to sister Kath and Peter, who just got back from the north about 10am.... We finally finished our pack-up, and hit the road about 11:30. But...we had only half a tank of gas (diesel) and the local stations were warning that many stations were either out of gas or only opening one pump....but we figured that was not diesel...which was true. We did see many stations w/only one pump running,...

Nov 6, 2007 - the "real" Florida
I woke this morning absolutely ready to head home. I was depressed and hated Florida. We broke camp and left Wildwood in record time - didn't even make coffee. Drove past the strip malls again back to the coast to rent boats or do something to make this part of the trip worthwhile. After all, the brochures keep advertising the "real Florida." We just hadn't found that, yet. We found Homosassa which is the big manatee area, and found a kayak rental place. We learned that the manatees aren't in the area - they are all still out in the gulf....
