Jan 16, 2013 - Mims, Florida - 2

I can't believe we've been here a week already. The time has just flown by. Monday we decided to go out for a ride. We went to Sanford. They have a beautiful Riverwalk. We walked around the area. It's on the St. Johns River. There's also a nice marina there as well as a paddleboat you can go for a dinner cruise on. We did not do the cruise. From Sanford we continued on down to Winter Park - almost into Orlando - and then came back to the campground a different route. It was a nice ride. Tuesday we went down to Melbourne and met my cousin,...

Jan 13, 2013 - Mims, Florida - 1

We arrived in Mims on Thursday. The ride down was very peaceful. It's so nice to watch the different landscapes going by. Each part of the country has things that are unique. In South Carolina we started picking up the live oak trees with the spanish moss draped on its branches. In Georgia we were picking up the palmetto trees and a few palm trees. Here we have all sorts of palms from bushes right up to trees mixed in with the lives oaks and much more. There are not a lot of flowers in bloom yet. The weather has been very warm every day....

Apr 18, 2012 - Kennedy Space Center & Astronaut Hall Of Fame

April 18 – Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canavaral We spent an awesome and very inspiring day at the Kennedy Space Center. We started out by watching a 3D IMAX presentation on the Hubble Space Telescope. Hubble 3D – The powerful story of the Hubble Space Telescope gave us an inspiring and unique look into the telescope’s legacy and it’s profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves. Since the earliest days of astronomy, since the time of Galileo, astronomers have shared a single goal — to see more, see farther, and see...

OH NO! It is Friday and the Dayton Beach Bike Festival is going on this weekend. Even though we want a campsite in Titusville we have to take our second choice --> a campground near Mims right on SR 46, 30 minutes from Daytona Beach. Very nice except for the highway noise. There are some interesting motorcycles in our campground, including one with two wheels in the front and one in the back. We were not intending to visit the Kennedy Space Center but their 2 hour 'Up Close' tour of the currently unused vehicle assembly buildings (VABs)...

May 12, 2011 - Mims, Florida – Day trip to St. Augustine

While our motorhome waited in Mims near Kennedy Space Center for the final launch of space shuttle Endeavour, we drove our car north up the coast for a couple days in St. Augustine. Along the way, amongst the high-rise condos and T-shirt shops, we discovered Fort Matanzas National Monument on Anastasia and Rattlesnake islands near Summer Haven north of Daytona Beach. This tiny watchtower was built in 1740 by Spanish forces trying to stop British encroachment on St. Augustine about fifteen miles further north up the Matanzas River. St....

Mar 31, 2011 - Florida - Kennedy Space Center, Daytona, Ormond Beach

Onward to Florida….. Leaving Louisiana we took in the beautiful landscapes of Mississippi and Alabama. The only sights we stopped to see were the rest stops to walk Buster and stretch our legs. Stopover…..A two niter stop in the town of Milton, Florida was planned in order to have John and Allen rest up from driving 400 mile days every day and Karen and I to find the DQ and Dollar General stores in the area. Lots of finds at these dollar stores. What a pleasant surprise…. While driving thru Milton we happened upon a sign that read, “River...

Here we are in Titusville, vary close to the Kennedy Space Center. That is where we will be going in the morning for a tour. First day since we left that we have needed the a/c in the truck and in the trailer. What a difference. The temp was 26 degrees celcius which is around 80 I think. Definetely shorts & tshirt weather and we are loving it. When we arrived at this, the nicest campground we have stayed in, we met one of the workers and his girlfriend. She is a hairdresser at the big WalMart Supercenter not far from here. After we got...
