Apr 9, 2017 - Trip begins a couple of days early
The Mothership is in the backyard, locked and loaded, ready for our departure tomorrow morning. The newspaper has been stopped, the mail forwarded and the credit card companies notified of our plans. We spent the weekend loading final items and getting the house all cleaned up for our return - we hate coming home to a dirty house! We moved into the Mothership Friday night and that has made getting her and the house ready for our trip much easier - why didn't we think to do this years ago? We are heading for Marianna, FL tomorrow and will...Jump to full entry
Apr 2, 2016 - And the trip begins!!
We will be heading out this morning (if this front ever moves on through) with our first stop near Quincy, FL in the Florida panhandle. We will spend two nights there to make sure all systems are in order before continuing on April 4. This storm will probably delay our departure about three hours until almost noon. If you click on the Itinerary button in the upper-right corner of the trip home page, you can see a detailed listing of our planned stops. Of course, they are subject to change as we encounter different circumstances than we...Jump to full entry
Oct 18, 2014 - Home - Final Expense Summary
I have categorized our expenses below. Our cost/day rose significantly from prior trips, mostly because of higher maintenance on the Mothership. We didn't include any of our costs to upgrade the Mothership as they are not really trip specific. Final Expense Summary: RV Fuel - $2,015.00 or .5112/mile RV Misc - 210.00 (wash and wax) RV Maintenance - 2,563.31(new shocks, 4 wheel alignment, 36 month maintenance) RV Repairs - 2,777.52 (new jack system, jack service call and misc. items) Generator Maintenance - 93.07 (annual service plus new...Jump to full entry
Jun 27, 2014 - All Systems Go!!!
Well, Doris had her six-week hip replacement check up Wednesday and the doctor gave her the green light to return to full duty. :-) For her, the most important thing was being able to sleep on her side once again! We are way past ready to get out of this heat and humidity!! It looks like we will be leaving for Red Bay, AL on Sunday, July 6, spending two nights along the way, arriving in Red Bay on the 8th and spending three or four nights there getting some upgrades done on the Mothership. On Wednesday the 9th, Brannon at Custom RV will be...Jump to full entry
Mar 27, 2014 - Trip Delayed
Well, it looks like this year's trip will be delayed about three months. Doris has been having a lot of trouble with her right leg and thought it was still the remains of getting over last year's back surgery. But, instead of getting better, it kept getting worse as lower and lower sections of her back become more alive. We went to our general practitioner on the 17th. He took x-rays and discovered her right hip had no cartilage at all - bone on bone. She got an appointment on the 19th with Shands Hospital in Gainesville and the hip...Jump to full entry
Dec 4, 2008 - Pre-Trip Planning
We are still in the pre-planning stages right now and have found that a six-month trip is somewhat difficult to wrap your head around. I think a lot of spur-of-the-moment decisions will be made as we just play it loose and take each day as it comes. The only part of the trip that does require a definite timetable is the ferry trip up the inside passage from Prince Rupert, BC to Haines, AK as it requires reservations several months in advance. We will try to keep you informed of our travels as they occur. But remember we will be in a great...Jump to full entry
