Oct 10, 2018 - Miami Springs FL – Holiday Inn Miami – International Airport

Left Bridget at home with her Aunt Jill and flew into Miami today so we would arrive in plenty of time to catch our cruise for Cuba tomorrow. Bridget didn’t even care that we left. She loves all the attention she gets from Jill. It’s like Roger and I don’t exist any more. Oh, well. This was the day Hurricane Michael made landfall on the northwest coast of Florida before heading to Georgia. We expected we might have some delays on our trip due to the hurricane, but we got lucky and made it through on time. We didn’t even have a bumpy...

Apr 10, 2013 - Miami Springs

I visited with Jeanne & Laurie one more time this season and since Jeanne had "most" of the day off to spend with me, I decided to take her to Miami Springs to see how the Curtiss Mansion was coming along. You may remember that I went there looking for letterboxes and saw that the town was starting to renovate the mansion and grounds. I kept coming back to find other boxes and then to take Mary to see it. Here are the links to previous trips in case you want to see the progress of its restoration - Dec 28 2008 and Apr 10 2011. I learned...

Feb 12, 2012 - Curtiss Mansion one more time

On this cool and blustery day, I thought it about time to search for a few letterboxes. I discovered that others have found the boxes at the Curtiss Mansion after I had searched for them, so I had to go back and not leave until I found them! I first visited the site on December 28, 2008 and took a picture of the mansion and talked about the visit on my website. Then, Mary and I came back on April 10, 2011 and looked for the boxes. We found a neat alcove in back of the mansion that is part of a little park instead of the property of Glen...

Apr 10, 2011 - Adventures with Mary

I asked Mary to join me in looking for a few letterboxes in North Miami today so I could show her Miami Springs and North Miami beach. I was very happy that she said yes and we had a great day together. First, I went back to the Curtiss Mansion to look for two letterboxes planted in strangler fig trees on the property. There were no workers around and the golfers on the neighboring course weren't interested in what we were doing. We didn't find the boxes, but we did find what might have been Curtiss' picnic area near the pond. We walked all...

Apr 5, 2011 - new letterboxes, dog days

New letterboxes have been planted in Miami Beach and at the Curtiss Mansion. I couldn't collect the ones at the mansion because it is a work day and they are busy restoring the mansion that had burned down. I last visited here on Dec. 28, 2008, so see the picture of the mansion back then and today to see how far they have come with the restoration. Today had record-breaking heat of 92 degrees before a thunderstorm came through to cool things down to 72 for a short time. I came back to the campground and put up my awning just in time, then...
