Oct 31, 2013 - Miami Beach Art Deco Tour

Since there wasn't a lot to do in Homestead, we decided to drive into Miami Beach for the afternoon. We wanted to do a walking tour of the Art Deco hotels along Ocean Drive. It was a short, although stressful, 45 minute drive from our spot at Goldcoaster. Once there, our next hurdle was to find parking. We thought being on a Sunday it wouldn't be as crowded but we were wrong. After crawling around several blocks, we finally found a parking garage that had all day parking for $20. At that point I would have paid $50. It was much more...

May 21, 2012 - Day 12

This morning we went for a look in the Lincoln Road mall. We then went to the Library so Catty could do an online quiz (her last uni assignment ever!). After this, we met up with Natty & Blair for lunch at Finnegan's Way coz it was so good the day before. I had the 1/2 pound burger and Catty had the Chicken Linguini. We hit the beach again for a while then went up to the hotel for a couple of drinks before our big night. The first place we went to had $5 margharitas, so we had a couple. The second place had any shot for $5! so we had 3...

Dec 10, 2010 - Miami Beach, Florida - USA

Our first day in Miami was a bit of a right-off, as we had both come down with the flu. Too much partying and no sleep in Vegas I think. We have spent a whole week in Miami as its got the same weather as Brisbane in summer! I don't feel like leaving! We have spent a lot of time at the beach swimming and lying on the sand. The water is crystal clear and blue. We've been staying in a hostel called Ohana - it is such great value - $18 per night with 3 meals per day included! It has been the perfect place to save some $$$ after Vegas. Miami...

Jan 11, 2010 - Kansas City to Miami

Today is the day! I have been planning this much needed trip to Nicaragua for 6 months, having booked the flights in June. A 6.30 flight from KCI to Ft. Lauderdale meant that I had to get up at 3.30am (Ugh!) My flight arrived in Ft.Lauderdale at 1.30pm. After retrieving my luggage, I took the number 1 bus to Aventura Mall, had really good Bourbon chicken at a Cajun place in the mall where I had eaten before and then took the s bus to Lincoln Road on South Beach. Trying a newly remodeled hostel this time which was a 2 mile hike from where...

Dec 25, 2009 - Christmas Day at South Beach

Christmas Day.,. What a great time to go to South Beach and drive right through downtown Miami.. Right? Well the drive through downtown Miami was a piece of cake.. In fact we even went to their Bay Front and walked the River Walk.. It was nice but not as nice as Duluth as far as we were concerned… Course they do not have the Ariel Bridge and ships coming thru the canal in this area but I must admit they sure had a lot bigger skyscrapers here than Duluth.. After walking around for awhile and finding the bathrooms in a few of the very fancy...

Dec 25, 2009 - Key Biscayne, Florida

Good Morning and a Merry Christmas to you.. We got to our park in Miami about 1:00 yesterday and hurried to set up, grab a quick lunch at home and head for the beaches.. We had planned on going to South Beach but traffic was awful in downtown Miami so we took a right turn and went across the five mile causeway to Key Biscayne… What a wonderful surprise… We drove all the way to the end of the Key and came to the Cape Florida State Park where we parked and walked along the tip and back the other side to Cape Lighthouse.. The lighthouse has...

Feb 26, 2009 - Miami Beach

Today we traveled into Miami Beach. We are going to take a Ducky Tour Boat ride at 1:00pm. Thought this was the best way to be able to a good bit of the cities of Miami and Miami Beach and with a guide onboard we would also know what we are looking at. Well we hit the jackpot with this guide; in fact we ended up having two. One who was the paid guide for our tour and the other one a passenger but also a restaurant owner in the South Beach area and he was a hoot. We got a very colorful tour of the South Beach restaurant are. We passed a lot...

Jun 24, 2008 - Buenvenidos a Miami (Welcome to Miami)

After an early start from Tampa (7am) we headed south to Miami to drop our dope ride off at the rental place for noon. We then got a taxi to south beach and checked into the hotel aqua, the hotel was lovely and included a jacuzzi outside our room, and a sun terrace with large exterior beds (very relaxing in the evening). It felt like 35 degrees when we decided to go for a tour of the south beach and the surrounding area, but when we got to the beach it felt more like 50 degrees!!!! The white sands really reflect the heat, it was sooooo...

May 12, 2008 - If I Hate LA, There's Always This Place

I spent some time in law school trying to figure out a way to relocate to Miami Beach. Of all the places I have been, it is one of my favorite cities to spend time in. I especially like that you can walk everywhere or cab it and therefore go without a car. My main concern with moving to Miami is that my hair would never look right again. I stayed with my cousin, Lark, who has relocated to The Flamingo Center Tower, complete with pink and green neon lights on top of the building. Very Miami Vice. I was told there was a Phillip Michael Thomas...

Apr 26, 2008 - Miami Beach

Not really much to report in this update... After a dodgey ham and cheese sandwich at the Havana Airport, our first 36 hours in Miami were spent in bed and on the dunny. Not really what we had planned for our short stay in Florida but that's the way it went. On day three we gathered up enough courage and strength to stray more than 10 meters away from the bathroom and decided to take a day trip to Key West, the last island in the Florida Keys group. It's amazing to see all these little islands joined by bridges (about 40 all up), with the...

Dec 25, 2007 - Mexican Night and Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you! It has been awhile since I have written in my journal...it's difficult to summarize all the fun and experiences we have had since I've written last time. I am sitting here thinking of all our new friends that are with us here in South Beach this December...Slow Dancin', Fortunate, Makai and Blessed Spirit. We are very blessed to have them in our life and their being here has made the holiday season very special indeed. I am also sitting here thinking of our old friends that were here in this anchorage in March...
