Dec 3, 2016 - Land ho! Last port, Miami.

My last journal entry was rather concise. This was because I awoke that morning feeling not quite up to snuff. As we ventured out into the humid Nassau heat, trying to locate a wifi station, the trek got the better of me. Immediately after that posting, as we threaded our way amongst the throngs of two cruise ships worth of tourists and the usual citizenry of Nassau, a profound sense of urgency overtook me, along with chills, sweats, vertigo, and nausea. Good ol' Brian had to either shelter me or pretend he didn't know me as I repeatedly...

Nov 6, 2016 - Weekend Extravaganza

Wow, what a weekend! I went to Jeanne & Laurie's house on Friday in time for dinner of chili and cornbread and ice cream. On Saturday, Jeanne took me to IHOP for a pancake breakfast, then to Runners High where we both bought sneakers, then to Whole Foods which was fun to look through, and then to Nothing Bundt Cake where I picked out four small bundt cakes for dessert tonight! Dinner was duck l'orange, rice, salad, and a taste of 4 different kinds of bundt cake! There was lemon, white white chocolate, white chocolate raspberry, and pumpkin!...

Oct 29, 2016 - Birdie Num Num

We were about an hour and a half from Miami airport, so we decided to stop off at a place called the Flamingo Garden – a sanctuary for rescued birds and other animals. And of course, give us pretty pink flamingos and we take hundreds of photos. (Only a couple for your viewing pleasure). Ms Garmin Mark II did a reasonable job in getting us around Florida, well, at least until we had to return our rental car to the airport. She kept insisting on taking us across grasslands to get onto the freeway. Fortunately, the hotel man had said that we...

In the USA 2016

Oct 25, 2016 - Soooo laid back

OK. So I thought that New Orleans was my favourite place so far. It has been replaced by Miami. Not that there is anything noteworthy to do there. It just has this really relaxed vibe about it, coupled with good food and big drinks. There are plenty of neon lights too, but unlike Las Vegas, it wasn’t feral. And it was warm – both day and night. Nice. Fabulous Art Deco architecture, too!

Sep 1, 2016 - Miami, Florida

We are now at the Regency Hotel in Miami for four nights. It is super hot and sticky! We have tucked into some delicious fresh salad and fruit and already found how easy it is to over eat in the US! Theo is going crazy over the cars- we hired a Nissan today much to Theo's disgust as the man next to us was hiring a black Mustang convertible! The man was actually jumping up and down with excitement and Theo looked on enviously! After a day of retail therapy yesterday to replace our damaged clothes we headed out to the Everglades. It was an...

Our Year Out

Jul 19, 2016 - Hello Havana

Off I go on a 45 minute flight to Cuba. Some of my first impressions are of the old cars on modern roads. Delicious lunch at a paladar (independently owned restaurant often in a home or small converted building). People to People - Project Muraleando. Community development project founded in 2002 as a neighborhood art collective with workshops in ceramics, theater, dancing, music and painting. These projects serve the barrios by creating communities that care for one another and the neighborhood.

May 3, 2016 - Cruise - Splendor of the Seas - Nov 2015

Hello Everyone, After arriving down in Florida this past November, we took a cruise on Carnivals Splendor of the Seas to the Caribbean. This was a 7 day cruise sailing out of Miami and we couldn’t wait for the fun to begin! Jeannie and I signed up for an ‘action packed’ excursion at each port of call, and had a great time! We Zip Lined in the Dominican Republic; took a long walking City Tour of San Juan P.R.; then Snuba Diving in St. Thomas Virgin Islands; and 4-Wheeling on Grand Turk of the Cayman Islands! We were exhausted after all these...

Mar 25, 2016 - At Sea and Returning to Miami

March 24-26, 2016 At Sea and Returning to Miami After five very busy days, we were ready to just be lazy. There was no need to have breakfast brought to the room as we had become accustomed to on the touring days. We just made it down by the 10AM cut-off for breakfast and then had a minimal lunch of dainty sandwiches and a cappuccino. Dinners were another thing since we had a Chef’s Table reserved for the last night and the food in the main restaurant was just too good to pass up. Anne has become the Creme Brûlée fan and had that delectable...

Mar 16, 2016 - Azamara Caribbean Cruise Aboard The Journey

Today we drive the relatively short distance to the Miami Cruise Port from our overnight stay at the Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon. After driving around twice looking for the correct parking garage at the port, we found it. Our sailing was set for 5PM and we arrived early, so the check-in was quite quick. The ship, The Azamara Journey, is a relatively small cruise ship with a total of 686 passengers. A Disney mega-ship departed at the same time, and its departure whistle sounded out "When you wish upon a star". It dwarfed us as it passed by. Be...
