Retirement Dream

Nov 30, 2018 - Miami, FL.

A group of us met in the lobby of the hotel for breakfast. Then back to our rooms for baggage and wait for the shuttle. the van was packed with people and luggage. when we got to the dock it was tagging your bags and leaving them. The check in was crazy, with filling out forms and getting in one of the lines. When we were finished checking in, we were handed a ID card(find out later that's all we need for the next 14 days) and head for the ramp. We got to our room. It was nice, we upgraded to a balcony and glad we did. With no baggage yet...

Nov 9, 2018 - board the Mariner

Because about 100 of us were transferring from the Symphony of the Seas to the Mariner of the Seas, Royal Caribbean kindly organized a shuttle bus for us to make the trip with our luggage about a mile from one terminal to another at the port of Miami. We waited together in the appointed place, got off together and found our luggage in the appointed place and got outside where there was no appointed place at all. We were intermingled with our fellow passengers who were boarding buses to the airport, to go on tours, to go rent cars, to get a...

Oct 11, 2018 - Miami Florida

Arriving in Florida after a 15 day cruise through the Panama Canal, we have a ten day layover to wait for our cruise ship to Cuba. Armed Forces Vacation Club came through again and we got a condo unit near Disney World for seven days for only $299.00 (see photos). That left a few days to find another spot to hide out. For the front end I picked the lowest cost three star hotel near the airport (that had decent ratings) I could find. When we checked in they said “No smoking”. O.K., I can live with that. Also, “No Drinking of Alcoholic...

Oct 7, 2018 - fly to Lisbon

It's about two hundred miles from Titusville where we are camped, to Miami where we are about to fly to Lisbon. We brought ourselves here in a rental car, which cost about $45, much less than a limo and more convenient. We loaded the car with luggage last night. We'll reverse the process when we return from our third cruise. I'm feeling lah-di-dah typing in peace and quiet in the Business/First Class lounge after grazing the buffet. Business Class seats will also make the actual flight much more comfortable. Because we'll land at 1am body...

Apr 14, 2018 - Day of Departure

We leave about 4:30 PM from Miami. Very uneventful trip to MIA, and no construction to help us get lost there. Of course we got there way too early but the advantage was that they were able to change us from middle center seats to window. TAP airlines was nice but nothing special; same crowded too close too narrow seats as most airlines. What is not nice are their fees..checked bag was $95.00 and to reserve a seat ahead of departure day also carries a variety of costs depending on location. Ticket was cheaper but I guess in the long run you...

Mar 16, 2018 - First and last stop, Miami!

Until now, Miami has mostly been a place where we pass through on the way to the Keys, a place to get irritated by being held up by traffic on Highway 1 when trying to hit our sweet destination. A few years ago, we did spend one happy day in South Beach, loving the art deco buildings and the Cuban food in equal measure (check out our earlier blog). But mostly its just been a hurdle to get to the Keys. Until now! Due to some tricky flights to Honduras and Guadeloupe, we changed planes twice in Miami. We decided to spend a little more time...

Mar 9, 2018 - Stop over Miami

Had a first class set out of Panama, which was really nice, although the American Airway flight let itself down as it only had one of the two lunch options available. Having completely read a book over to Miami was looking for some retail therapy in duty free. However on landing there was no connecting flights line and we had to go through security which was a pain in the Arsenal despite it being automatic with facial and fingerprint recognition, it took at least half an hour due to the finger print recognition technology not being able to...

Mar 8, 2018 - At Sea going to Miami

At Sea going to Miami March 7 - 9 We left Columbia for two days at sea and then a flight back to Rochester. Azamara continued to entertain us and feed us all the delicious food. As we made the final approach to Rochester's Airport, we saw snow! Had to dig out the car! We're home!

Jan 11, 2018 - Miami - around town

The Wynwood Art District is really fun! It is an old warehouse area, that is being transformed into an area of art galleries, shops, restaurants and fun graffiti murals on the buildings. It reminds us of “graffiti alley” in Toronto...but, so much more! Really a great place to walk around and browse.

Caribbean Cruise Fun

Jan 11, 2018 - Off to Miami!

The photo is from yesterday ... our flight into Miami was uneventful. We ate at Yardbird last night. Great food; loved the chicken and waffles + fried green tomatoes. Today: Thursday’s.... We have a little hotel right at the corner of Collins and Beach Blvd.... Beach is the “main drag” in South Beach. Howard just wants to sit and watch all the young girls walks by in their bikinis. I won’t let him!! Today we are off to an art district to do a little look-see and then dinner with Howard’s cousin, Jack Ritz.

Caribbean Cruise Fun

Oct 22, 2017 - Biscayne National Park

We got an early start, had some noisy neighbors. We were on the road about 715. Traffic was light for the first couple hours. Had a couple rain storms, seemed like it poured heavy for a few miles each time and then it was gone. I was the lucky one to drive thru/around Fort Lauderdale and Miami. We were on toll roads a few times and just whizzed along. After 30-40 miles of heavy traffic we were totally out of it and in a palm tree plantation. We could see a lot of damage from Irma that was just 6 weeks ago. Mostly branches and all from the...
