Dec 1, 2012 - St. Augustine, New Smyrna Beach, Merritt Island

December 1, 2012 Hi All! It has been awhile since I have updated my blog! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had Thanksgiving in Charleston, SC. We stayed are the Maritime Center. They had a pot luck dinner with turkey, ham, dressing and every side dish imaginable. Everyone had a great time. The one big group was from France. They are traveling for two years. They have been out about one. There are six boats that have become friends over time and travel together. Friday we walked around Charleston. It is a great walking city and I...

Jul 1, 2012 - BLOW-OUT

On the way to Gettysburg, PA, we developed some mechanical problems in the Gulliver. After many phone calls we finally found a place that would look at it. We pulled into a mechanic in Fairmont, West Virginia. They could find nothing wrong. We went off down the road and again had a violent shaking and finally an explosion. The left read tire had literally blown up. Bob skillfully guided the motorhome to the side and we called for emergency assistance. While waiting for the tow truck, Bob released the spare tire stored underneath the vehicle...

Apr 17, 2012 - And We're Off!

Okay...Do we have the cat? dog? birds? outside rugs? phone? and we are off! So as we are leaving home and heading down Pine Island Road (less than a mile from home), we spot the shuttle Discovery riding on top of a jumbo jet. They did a low fly over and then headed to a new home at the Smithsonian. How cool is that?! I have never seen the shuttle piggyback on a jet. It was great. I double checked that the garage door was closed and we got Lilliput (our towed car) hooked up to Gulliver (our motor-home). We were about three hours down the...

Apr 14, 2012 - Getting Ready

We are just about ready to head out. We have been getting the house ready to close up. Hurricane shutters are up..check. Mail forwarding set up...check. Cable, phone and Internet placed in hibernation...check. Lists of last minute stuff have been made. I hate that feeling that you forgot something, but can't put your finger on it. "Do we have the cat?" "Did you close the garage door?" "No, I thought you did!" And it all begins. We are so lucky to have wonderful neighbors who will take in the rug we left out or check to see if I closed the...

Sep 15, 2011 - Underway...Shift Colors!

Here we go again...Underway for a new adventure. We were temporarily derailed by Hurricane Irene. Our original plans were to spend a few days on Hatteras Island (Pea Island). The Hurricane damaged the bridge over Oregon Inlet and washed out the road in several places. On a barrier island that means there are many new inlets between the sound and the ocean. Bob plans on attending his annual old guy surfer retreat in Kitty Hawk this year. I will be enjoying the beach at Kitty Hawk RV Park with Tommy and Mia (dog and cat). We decided to leave...

Feb 7, 2008 - Space Shuttle Launch at Kennedy Space Center

Thursday, February 7, 2008. Thousand Trails, Clermont, FL Space Shuttle Launch at Kennedy Space Center We got up around 5:45 this morning so we could leave in plenty of time to allow for traffic on the way to Kennedy Space Center. We figured it would be a good hour without traffic so we headed out the door at 6:30. When I woke Jonathan up, he wanted to roll back over and go to sleep. I guess he gets that from me because I move pretty slow in the mornings too. We arrived at the Space Center at 8:00. The first thing we did was go on a bus...

Dec 19, 2007 - Merritt Island, FL

After an "exhausting" twenty-one mile tow day, we settled in with Mark's friend Pat, his wife Derrian and their soon to be one year old, Jaxon at their house in Merritt Island, right down the road from Kim and Bud's house. This would be our final resting place for 2007 before beginning our trek out to the west coast. Pat and Mark have been friends since high school in Miami and Pat saved Mark's life for me, as I always like to say. On the final day of high school, Mark and some friends celebrated with a bit of a drinkfest. After a full day...

Nov 25, 2006 - The Beauties of Biking

This morning, before we departed from Fort Clinch, we took a last bike ride and walk (Ken likes walk not hike, lest you get the wrong idea about him). The serpentine road on which we rode was dappled with sunlight and the shadows of live oak trees laden with Spanish moss reached across the road as they themselves reach across the canopy of the forest. It is those trees that have the spider like limbs. The Magnolia Trail walk was punctuated with chattering squirrels, signs of deer, a flittering butterfly that paused to drink from the burr...

Jul 29, 2006 - Cape Canaveral

Here is what we confirmed at Cape Canaveral. Curious that we both love traveling to all sort of places, but are completely uninterested in going into outer space. Not because of risk or anything like that, but given the choice of a trip to the Moon v. one to see chimps and gorillas in Africa we would not hesitate to pick the later. I don't know why.

Nov 1, 2005 - Time to leave

Time to move the trailer out of Ken's back yard. It was scheduled to rain later that day, so we had to get moving. We first hooked up Pauls truck with not much success. The ground was too soft from the recent rains. So we hooked up my Dodge with no more luck. Then Ken hooked his to mine and the three of us got it out to harder ground. What fun. Then we took the trailer to Kennedy Space Center's rec park to test all the systems, as most could not be used at Ken's house. After 2 weeks of tweaking and tieing up the last of the tasks. it was...
