Apr 11, 2017 - Marianna, FL - Alliance Hill RV Park

Our trip from home to Marianna, FL was an easy 224 miles, mostly on I-10 across the top of Florida into the panhandle under bright, sunny skies. We are staying at the Alliance Hill RV Park, also known as the Alliance Hill 50 Plus RV Resort on their web site, but Alliance Hill RV Park on the sign as you enter?. It is a new park with large concrete 50 amp, full hookup, pull-throughs, and a concrete patio with picnic table. The sites are larger than usual and since it is several miles off the interstate is pretty quiet after dark though there...

Oct 28, 2014 - Closer to CP1

Last night was not a restful night. We ran the generator while we were watching the Dallas Cowboys game and had the front air conditioner going also. It was really warm in here. When we went to bed it was still 72 degrees outside. We never sleep with the generator going, so I opened the windows on the drivers side of the coach and both roof vents. I couldn't open the other windows because a trucker pulled in beside us with a refrigerator unit on his trailer running full blast for 15 minutes at a time. Then it would shut off and I would...

Apr 8, 2014 - 3rd stop and rest day

Arrowhead Campsite in Marianna, FL. We feel like we hit the jackpot. It is a beautiful park right on the river with lovely trees with moss growing on them. The wifi is blazing fast, the water pressure is good and the sites are nice and level. The people who manage the park are so friendly and their three dogs are in the office to greet you when you come in. They have fishing docks and are pulling huge croppie and bass out every day. It is a Passport America park so we are paying $18 a night for this amazing place, so we decided to take a...

Feb 13, 2014 - Marianna, FL

2/13/14 After over 2 weeks we pull out of Thonotosassa and the Spainish Main RV park, it has been a really good stay and we have avoided a lot of cold weather that hit almost all of the country starting not too much north of here. It is 69 degrees when we leave but as we head north it is dark and misting, the temp goes down steadyly to about 59 then shortly before we make our turn to the west we get back into the sun shine and it starts warming up. We talk about the fact that we will be heading mostly west now until we reach the Pacific...

Oct 21, 2012 - Daytona Beach to Marianna

After checking out of Destination Daytona we hit the road on I95 north to Jacksonville about 60 miles away. The highway was busy with motorcycles all departing Daytona for the trip home. We intended a stop for morning tea near Jacksonville Beach and found that the annual air show was about to start down on the beach. Parking was a bit scarce but we found a bay on the main road and walked about 1 km back to the beach for the free show. The army, navy, marines all had displays there as did every other form of armed force from USA all selling...

Jul 22, 2012 - Underground Florida

Marianna, FL Florida Caverns State Park This morning was so pleasant. We’re in the woods and the sky was cloudy so it was not hot. We had a relaxing morning and finally ventured out to Wal-Mart around 11:30am. The Wal-Mart in Marianna was very nice and not the least bit crowded (on a Sunday!). We were able to find the new water hose and picked up a few other items. On the way out to Wal-Mart Ron saw a sign for I-10 in the opposite direction from where we came from yesterday. He wanted to see if the direction through town would be possible...

Ocala, FL to Marianna, FL 237 miles We left the RV park in Ocala around 11:00am and had a very peaceful, uneventful drive to the Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, FL. It took a little over five hours from the time we pulled out of the Ocala RV park until we arrived at the park in Marianna. We checked in to the Florida Caverns State Park and unhitched the Jeep before driving to the campground in the park. The ranger suggested we unhook before proceeding. The road inside the park is paved. For some reason Ron missed the little sign and...

Jun 4, 2011 - Houston Day 2

Hung out by the pool today after setting up our Dish Network Heat index is 102. We went to dinner at the Salt Grass restaurant in South side Houston.. Never will get a steak like the one we had tonight. Drinks came in Mason Jar and the walkway had horseshoes embedded in the concrete. We went for a Geocache around the corner only to find Houston's finest parked right on the cache. Another time. The RV resort we are staying has a really nice pool and lake inside a gated RV park. I forgot to mention Diane got a haircut in Marianna before we...

Long trip today 446 miles from Biloxi MS to Houston TX. Hit the 610 at rush hour so running 60 mph with a travel trailer in 6 lane traffic was a hoot. Stopped in LA for a Geocache along the way. Diane finally got to see the Mississippi River the last time with Meg they swore it was a little creek.. LOL.. Heat index is around 104 again today. We are by the lake so we do have some breeze to keep things a little cooler probably around 98 degrees. HA

May 30, 2011 - Myrtle the turtle

A Florida Soft Shell Turtle came out of the lake today to lay eggs by the sandy road by our camper. She was about 24 inches long and the shell was leathery.(pics attached). She had a very pointed snout and long neck. I checked on the web and found that they are an endangered protected species native to Florida. They are also as nasty as a snapping turtle and are able to reach around to the back of their shell for protection. After she was done she went back in the water all the while kids were swimming about 20 feet away.. We did some...
