Apr 17, 2014 - Henry Flagler's house.

LION COUNTRY KOA, LOXAHATCHEE, FL. WEDNESDAY The air conditioning was running at 8AM...the outside temp was 77 already. It didn't get a whole lot warmer..been pretty cloudy all day with a few sprinkles once in a while. The morning was spent with Edie doing laundry and me doing trip planning. Have got the itinerary put together....should return home about May 1. Tomorrow we will be going down the keys to Marathon, Fl. It's about a 180 mile trip. I got on the internet, looking for something to do this afternoon, and run up on the Henry M....

Apr 16, 2014 - Amongst the animals.

LION COUNTRY KOA, LOXAHATCHEE,FL. WEDNESDAY Woke up this morning to the sound of the air conditioners running..thought we were in for a hot one. Turned out to be a mostly cloudy day with a nice breeze and not too hot. We fiddled around here till lunch time, then drove over to Lion Country next door. Turns out this is all one big operation with the RV park and the Safari park. Arrived at the gate in the Honda, got our two day ticket punched, picked up a CD to narrate the trip and got in with the animals. In most areas the animals are free...

Apr 15, 2014 - South to Lion Country

LION COUNTRY KOA, LOXAHATCHEE,FL. TUESDAY The alarm woke us again this morning, so it must be time to move. The drive was short, 154 miles, so we didn't have to hurry. It is getting warmer and feels more like Florida, with higher humidity. We were ready to leave about 1030, then drove to the gas station and topped off...gas went up .10 overnight.:-( Leaving Kissimmee we took US441 rather than pay a toll on the turnpike. Once we were out in the country, the rest of the trip was miles and miles of miles and miles. The first two pictures...

Mar 16, 2014 - Lion Country Safari

Lion Country Safari We decided to check out the park and the adjoining KOA for a few days. They had a special of 2 nights and 2 tickets to the Safari park so we took it. First, the campground. As typical with KOAs, we were greeted with big smiles and quick check in. We were escorted to our site and everything was as neat and clean as could be. Our site was fair sized (by Florida standards) and had a cement pad. Since we arrived on a Saturday, there were many young families camping with their children. There was a nice pool as well as a...

Oct 31, 2010 - Lion Country Safari

We left Cape Coral,Florida on Sat and drove over to camp at the KOA which is next door to the Lion Country Safari. I mean next door, you can hear the lions roaring during the night and you feel like you are in the jungle with all the animals around you in the darkness of the night. The night is Halloween night and we have witches flying around us and ghost also. We went to the Lion Country Safari Park early in the day and then spent the afternoon running around the local area looking for the caches. We found 8 out of ten caches and shall be...

Apr 2, 2007 - Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my!

OK, there's no tigers or bears, but there are lions. We're in rockin' Loxahatchee, Florida now, home of Lion Country Safari. We pulled in last night in time for dinner - driving out of the Keys took a while, and then Miami traffic was about what you'd expect. We're staying at the Lion Country Safari KOA which is, all in all, a nice campground. They're a little heavy on the rules - rules about everything are posted everywhere. Some even contradict themselves which is kind of funny - "No Children Allowed" on the shuffleboard court, hanging...
