Apr 7, 2013 - Sun N Fun Lakeland, Fl

We arrived at camper registration around noon, Andy K. moved barricades so we could pull thru into a 50 amp site with water. WOW. Later in the day a Country Coach pulled in, Jim is a volunteer. Thankfully we took the last 50 amp site by coming in early. Thanks to Andy. Had a good time. I worked 24 hours total, some evening, some morning, one mid day slot. Great people to work with. Linda and John hosted a cook out Wednesday night with others from the Early Bird area. Sun N Fun wasn't as crowded as prior years but still had much to offer. I...

May 4, 2012 - Difficult Times

Loads become a blur. As soon as one is finished, you file the paperwork and concentrate on the next. Days melt together. Your focus is only on your next destination and the time involved in getting there. Just "git r done". The automatic procedure of load planning takes over; you figure out your dispatch time (how much spare time you have), fuel stops, where to shower & wash clothes, and, of course, decide on any special eating places. You secure your new load with a formidable lock, examine the trailer, monitor the trucks tires and engine,...

Apr 29, 2012 - WALK THE WALK

We went out to do some Geocaching around the area , this cache had no container to find nor a log sheet to sign. This cache we had to find was the water depth of the storm runoff water preserve. It had a nice water preserve with ducks and birds and was a nice place to walk and see wild life. The information told us that the water run off from the streets if went into the lake would pollute the waters and water preserves would filter the storm runoff before it got to the lake . Earthcaches always tells a story about the earth and what we all...

Apr 29, 2012 - Circle B Bar Wild Wetlands

We went to the wetlands to walk the trails to see the wild life. This area 1950's was mining and other agricultural activities were common in these wetlands. This area was drained and transformed to be pasture land for cattle. Water was pumped from the land to a central canal running through the middle of the reserve. The cattle ranch was sold to the county and the county has been working to replace what was lost years ago. The swamp and wetlands have been replaced , the birds have come back with all the wild life. If you like to walk in...

Apr 28, 2012 - Pulling Weeds And Playing In The Dirt

We got to the local park down the street from our campground around 9 a.m. to see a few people with gloves and rakes ready to go to work. We got to meet the local geocachers and some people from the Polk county farm extension. They were here to teach us a little about plant cuttings from the wild coffe plant and how to take care of your flower beds at home. After the class on plant cuttings , we all went down to the area that they wanted us to pull weeds, pull off the spanish moss and to trim back the wild coffee plants. I had brought along...

Apr 27, 2012 - Move On Down The Road

Norma and I had a great time camping at the Sliver Lake campground in the Withlachoochee State Forest for a week of walking on the trails. They have walking trails and bike trails that wonder in the forest for miles and of course they have the containers hidden along the trails for us to locate and sign the log sheets. We also did the Withlachoochee state bike trail that was fun until the end of the day after getting on and off the bike. I started to get a stiff leg from all the off's and on's , maybe I need to get a girls bike so I don't...

Apr 8, 2012 - Visiting our friends in Florida

It's been a busy week visiting our friends. Unfortunately, Heather's parent's camper broke down so they were unable to camp with us, but gave us lots of ideas on storage. We are fully moved in and everything has a place within our motor-home. Heather has become a farmer and we created a garden using compost, worm excrement and professional seeds. I completed my first prayer shawl and gave it to a young girl that helped with the garden. She has an unhealthy home life and low self-esteem. Charles had some great conversations encouraging...

Jan 18, 2012 - Gators, gators and more gators

Left the creature comforts of Duck Key this morning and headed back north. Had an interesting ride through south Florida, especially across the Tamiami Trail. Must have seen hundreds of alligators in and along the canal, some of them surprisingly huge! Also fun to pass the huge citrus processing plants with giant silos full of grapefruit and oranges. And no motorcycle trip would be complete without getting wet so we naturally had to hit rain and wind as we got within about 30 miles of Lakeland. Was more than ready to make it to our free...

Jan 17, 2012 - Coach all packed up and nearly ready to go

What fun! It feels like moving house- it is really. We have slowly worked our way through the coach packing and then covering the furniture and floor with plastic. By Monday evening we could no longer sleep in the coach so moved the bags over to Charlie and Melanie's along with boxes of food and other items we no longer need. Hope they do not feel we are taking over! It is strange seeing the coach all closed up and covered in plastic inside and that we will become true nomads over the next five to six weeks. Tomorrow we head north to...

Jan 13, 2012 - Two weeks to go

Again this week has been a bit of a roller coaster. We had contacted a number of pet transport companies about taking Jenny back to the UK. None seemed very efficient compared to the company we used when we brought the two dogs across from the UK in 2004. It took several days to get quotes - did these companies want business? When the quotes came in we were shocked. The quotes were all over $4,000! When we came across the two dogs cost it us GBP 1,200. Over $4,000 was just ridiculous. Depressed- it was time for a rethink. The next day we...
